trump says it's over. and banning extremists. facebook blocks people and organizations considered dangerous. >> it makes people distrust the platform. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, a powerful cyclone made landfall in eastern india overnight, bringing winds of over 125 miles an hour. that's equivalent to a category 4 hurricane.gdestrun, more thana million people were evacuated along the coast before fani came ashore. it's the strongest storm to hit india in two decades, the cyclone is on a path close to the homes of more than 100 million people. so far, though, no deaths or injuries have been reported.

the evacuation is the largest in the nation's history. nearly 100,000 of those evacuated are from one city alone. officials are concerned about the 858-year-old temple. more than 850 shelters have been set up and schools and universities have been closed. in 1999 a cyclone killed roughly 10,000 in the same region. back at home attorney general barr is facing intense scrutiny from democrats after his refusal to testify before the house judiciary committee. they're threatening to hold barr in contempt if the department does not hand over the full report in the coming days. president trump says it should end now that the special counsel's work is done. he will not let former counsel don mcgahn testify before congress. laura podesta is here in new york with the latest on this. laura, good morning. pair of late-night tweets saying republicans and democrats must

come together for the good of the american people and drop investigations into hmm and the mueller report, but that plea on social media is unlikely to deter house democrats who as you mentioned are getting closer to filing that contempt citation. hours after attorney general william barr bucked a congressional hearing on the mueller report, president trump told fox news he doesn't want his aides testifying either. >> nobody has ever done what i've done. i've given total transparency. it's never happened like this. >> house democrats are ready to hold barr in contempt after the justice department missed a s&p deadline to release the unredacted mueller report. >> we can start imposinging fines on that person. in the past, we had a house jail. i don't think we're going to go that far, but the house has done that as well. >> one democrat mocked barr not being there by eating a bucket of chicken and placing a bucket of chicken in his seat.

then switched sides after his arrest was rewarded with ten years in prison. najibullah zazi spent nearly a decade helping the u.s. identify and prosecute terrorists. sentencing guidelines had called for him to be assigned to life in prison. his attorney says his client was pleasantly surprised. >> mr. zazi is extremely appreciative of the imposition of that sentence. >> zazi's help included implicating his two friends in the 2009 subway bombing plot and providing intelligence about al qaeda members. a pharmaceutical company founder accused of paying doctors millions in bribes to prescribe a highly addictive fentanyl spray has been found guilty. a boston jury yesterday convicted former chairman. john kapoor was charged with

conspiracy along with four others and an exotic dancer were also convicted. some of the evidence in the trial included a video of employees dancing around in executive dress as a giant bottle of fentanyl. several high-profile figures have been permanently banned from facebook and instagram. the social media giant is calling them, quote, dangerous individuals. jeff pegues explains. >> reporter: facebook and instagram banned conspiracy theorist alex jones, louis farrakh farrakhan, my low yiannopoulos, and other white nationalists. >> sandy hook is synthetic. >> jones' talkbook has said it was fake. facebook cited its policies against allowing, quote,

dangerous individuals and organizations on its platforms. the company has faced intense criticism in recent years for not doing enough to curb hate speech and misinformation. white supremacists gathered on a facebook page linked to the alleged shooter to express support while the new zealand massacre was livestreamed on the site. >> every time there's violence it gets connected to facebook. it makes people distrust the platform. >> as facebook executives have been forced to address growing concerns about hate speech on the site, they also have acknowledged they're facing up to $5 billion in fines for privacy violations. jeff pegues, cbs news, washington. severe thunderstorms a damaging winds and hail are forecast, and there's also a

potential for tornadoes. many states are still reeling from a storm system earlier this week. in dearborn, michigan, a freeway was closed yesterday due to flooding. in little rock, arkansas, storms caused flooding, blew roofs off houses, and knocked out power. in taylor, missouri, a woman had to be rescued after her suv got stuck in floodwaters. dozens of tornados were reported across five states just this week. the trump administration is opening two new tent facilities to increase border patrol's capacity to treat and process migrant families. the tents will hold 1,000 families. occupants will have access to portable showers, recreational areas, and sleeping quarters. the facilities are set to operate through the end of the year. coming up, why a 101-year-old woman was evicted from her retirement home in the bay area.

retirement home. and baltimore's mayor has adlinesd. on the morning newsstand. "the baltimore sun" reports the city's mayor catherine pugh resigned amid an investigation into seclusion. pugh says she was sorry for the harm she caused to baltimore's image. federal agents raided her home and city hall office last month in an investigation over sales of her self-published children's books. state officials had called for pugh's resignation for weeks. they cited her "healthy holly" book deals where she made about $800,000 in the sale of the books that later earned her city contracts. >> it's a sad day for the city of baltimore but a hopeful one.

>> bernard "jack" young replaced pugh as baltimore's mayor. "the new york times" says president trump announced a so-called health care rule. mr. trump chose yesterday's national day of prayer to announce the new regulation. under the rule, health care institutions can lose federal funds if they do not respect the rights of workers opposing certain medical procedures including sterilization and suici suicide. critics say the conscience rule could deny those under the lgbtq rule or women seeking abortion. and a san francisco station says a woman was shocked after she was evicted from her luxury senior living facility. her 90-year-old sister says they couldn't believe it happened. >> the conviction shocked the hell out of me. i was really shocked. i thought, are they really going to do this to us? >> 101 mabel barnfield exhausted

"the wall street journal" says the system is recruiting finance
