the 20th anniversary of students at a rec center after a deadly shooting at their suburban school yesterday. >> i want to see him. if he comes, i want him to see me. >> they were reunited shortly thereafter. this mom was texting with her daughter during the attack. >> it's a real lockdown, mom. there's a shooting. >> and then we also heard screaming and stuff like that. >> 18-year-old kendrick castilla was killed. >> the second shooter is still on the loose. >> authorities say two students opened fire on two classrooms. >> this is a terrible event. this is something no one wants to have happen in their community. >> officers arrived within two minutes. >> we struggled with the suspects and took them into

custody. they are in custody. >> they were set to graduate this week. >> with his help they were able to pin him to the ground. but because of that he got shot a lot more than everyone else. >> investigators searched one of suspects' homes yesterday evening as they tried to determine a motive. and yesterday's shooting took place exactly one week after a gunman killed two students and wounded four at the university of north carolina-charlotte. anne-marie. >> wow. laura podesta here in new york. thank you. 32 million americans are in the path of severe weather today. forecasters say more than a half dozen states could see an outbreak of storms that include damaging winds, hail, and tornado tornadoes. a twister touched down in western oklahoma overnight. the national weather service is expected to travel there today to assess the damage.

in parts of texas, flooding continuing to be a major problem after days of relentless rain. some schools outside houston had trouble taking students home because several buses got stuck in the high water. the house judiciary committee is expected to vote today on whether to hold attorney general william barr in contempt of congress. barr failed to comply with an unredacted copy of robert mueller's russia report to lawmakers. senate majority mitch mcconnell said yesterday it's time to move on. >> the special counsel's finding is clear. case closed. case closed. this ought to be good news for everyone. but my democratic colleagues seem to be working through the five stages of grief. first stage is denial. >> the justice department is now threatening to withhold mueller's unredacted report from

congress if house democrats decide to hold barr in contempt. a review shows trump lost over a billion dollars in less than a decade. it comes after a "new york times" investigation based on u i rs tax transcripts from 1985 to 1994. the "times" reports because he lost so much money, he did not pay income taxes for eight of the ten years. a lawyer for mr. trump told the "times" its statements about it are highly inaccurate. stockmarkets in asia were hit by another round of losses this morning amid new trade talks. on wall street stocks when into a freefall. the dow plummeted 473 points. the s&p 500 was down 48 point, and the nasdaq which hit an all-time high last week hit 159 points. trade talks resume tomorrow. president trump is threatening to more than double the tariffs

on chinese imports. the chinese are expected to retaliate with tariffs of their own, and that could hurt american farmers who already lost billions during last year's tariff fight. >> it will hurt our economy and china's economy, but i don't know how you get china to stop cheating unless somebody stands up to them. >> china's top negotiator will be in washington for the 11th round of trade talks. iran will partially withdraw from a land mark nuclear deal signed with six other nations in 2015. the decision was announced by iran's president this morning. it's in response to the u.s.'s withdrawal from the deal a year ago. the agreement was widely hailed as a major diplomatic victory for former president barack obama, but was criticized by president trump who said it was the worst deal ever. more protests are expected at the texas state capital today after newly surfaced cellphone video in the sandra bland case.

"the wall street journal" reports the federal appeals court ruled that president trump's back to mexico asylum policy can stay in effect for the time being. it means the administration can continue to return central american migrants to mexico while their asylum requests in the u.s. are being decided in the courts. the rule has been handed down by the left leaning circuit court of appeals. the court has been a frequent target of mr. trump's complaints. it's not a final decision and the case could end up in the supreme court. the "houston chronicle" reports police in houston in a suburb there say a texas man who

reported his young stepdaughter missing repeatedly changed his story during initial interviews. houston play sayre he told investigators the 4-year-old was kidnapped friday night after he was pulled over on the side of the road with car problems. he said men in a pickup truck abducted the girl after they knocked him out, but then let him and his 2-year-old son go. his story has changed several times. meanwhile the search for the little girl continues. >> what would you say to your daughter right now? >> that mommy loves you, and i'm sorry this had to happen to you. >> the girl's family says she's had several brain surgeries including onelast month. child protection officials say the girl and her brothers were removed from the family home months earlier because of abuse allegations, but they were later returned.

"usa today" reports a ninth dead whale has been found. in the san francisco bay area since march. the adult female great whale was found monday after washing ashore on ocean beach. authorities say it was hit by a ship. three previous whales died by ship strikes and four from malnutrition. biologists say some great whales are in poor condition during this year's annual migration to alaska. they suspect they're having trouble finding food as warming ocean conditions impact their food supply. and "time" reports the one-year anniversary of melania trump's campaign. she focuses on child well being, social media, and drug abuse. it will include all babies. it's not just babies dependent on opioids and other addictive
