the disturbing evidence allegedly found in his apartment. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. china is expected to announce as early as today how it will retaliate against the latest round of tariffs imposed by the u.s. last week. president trump tweeted over the weekend saying, we are right where we want to be with china. mr. trump is also threatening to impose taxes on the remaining chinese imports after already raising tariffs on friday. hilary lane is here in new york with how this will impact consumers and businesses. good morning. thieic ae tradwar wihina. those comments directly contradict what the president has been saying.

the white house's top economic adviser expects china to retaliate after the u.s. raised tariffs last week. >> yeah, i reckon they will. we'll see what they come up with. >> on friday p raised tariffs 25% on 10% on 0 $200 billion of chinese goods. he also began the process of ordering additional tariffs on remaining imports of $300 billion. >> both sides will pay. >> larry kudlow acknowledged on sunday the u.s. consumers will foot the bill. >> yes, to some extent. i don't disagree with that. both sides will suffer on this. >> that's counter to what president trump initially claimed. >> they'll be paid for largely by china. >> tariffs are actually a tax paid by u.s. companies that import goods from china. the cost is then often passed on to consumers. some analysts say the hike could cost the american economy $62 billion by next year, an extra $500 to $800 per family.

>> it's a tax on the american consumer. >> henry paulson, former treasury secretary for george w. bush, says the escalation is a missed opportunity for both countries. >> they clearly want a deal and need a deal as does the u.s. no one wins a trade war. >> president trump and his chinese counterpart xi jinping are expected to meet at the g20 summit in june. both sides say talks will continue. china says that will happen in bay shung, although u.s. officials say nothing is planned as of now. anne-marie. >> hilary lane in new york. thank you, hilary. more than 7 million people are feeling the impact of severe weather ravaging the south. flood warnings are issued in more than half a dozen states. both louisiana state and mississippi are under states of emergency. a tornado touched down in virginia over the weekend. several businesses and homes reported damage. severe thunderstorms also downed trees and damaged buildings in alabama and florida.

in stone county, mississippi, flash floods trapped more than a dozen people in an r.v. park. >> the water was going down and all of a sudden it rose and overtook the park. there was nothing more we could do. we all evacuated and got out. >> i lost everything. >> flash flooding in new orleans led to more than 200 calls to forecasters say more than 500 inches of rain fell between saturday night and sunday morning. and a pilot is being credited for saving lives. he landed his plane only on rear wheels after the front landing gears failed. it was hended from yangon to myanmar yesterday. everyone onboard survived. roxana saberi has the dramatic landing. >> reporter: in this video posted online, the mean mall national airplane lands on its

rear wheels, but then its nose touches down setting sparks for several seconds until the jet skids to a stop. from inside, smoke rises underneath the passengers' seats who appear anxious for the order to evacuate. when it comes to a stop, they scramble to safety. amazingly all passengers and crew members made it out with any injuries. some even walked away smiling. the airline is praising the pilot. p it had taken off from yangon, myanmar's biggest stirks and was hending to mandalay when the landing gear malfunctioned. the pilot circled twice to check with air traffic control to see if the wheels lands. they didn't. this incident comes one week after a russian plane made an emergency landing in moscow. russian media say that plane landed with full fuel tanks. it erupted in flames, killing at

least 41 people. roxana saberi, cbs news, london. back home, the texas stepfather arrested in connection with the disappearance of a 4-year-old texas girl is expected in court today and more details have emerged in the case. david begnaud reports. >> they did see the defendant leave later with only his 2-year-old son. >> reporter: that is darion vence in the black sweatshirt appearing in court to be charged with tampering with evidence. vence is the first to report the disappearance of maleah last saturday. he's what he claims, that three hispanic men attacked him, maleah, and his 2-year-old son while he was pulled over on the side of the road checking on a tire. he says the suspects stole maleah and the car. her then reported her missing and the police started looking for her. her mother brittany bowens

pleaded for her safe return. investigators say vence's story kept changing and then fell apart.ri foundod evidence insid parliament that was linked to the blood of maleah. video shows her steps behind her stepfather, but she was never seen coming out. vence and her son were seen leaving the apartment. he was carried a lapp drink basket, a trash bag, and a bottle of bleach. on friday a spokesperson spoke with maleah's mother. >> he told her he was cleaning up the apartment, and she didn't understand why he would be cleaning up the apartment. >> that was david begnaud reporting. actress felicity huffman is

planning to plead guilty today. huffman reached a plea agreement with prosecutors last month. she has apologized for her actions. huffman is one of more than a dozen parents who have agreed to plead guilty in connection with varsity blues. dozens of wealthy parents allegedly paid bribes to boost their kids' chances of getting into prestigious colleges. saudi officials say two saudi oil tankers were targeteds in a sabotage effort. one of the tankers was on its way to take oil to the u.s. tensions have arisen amid the deployment of military say seaso the middle east. a north korean cargo ship seized by the u.s. because of suspicion that it was used to violate international sanctions is undergoing investigation.

britain's "independent" says a prominent journalist and female officialsay she was gunned down on her way to work. the attackers got away. mangal served as an adviser in the afghan parliament. she was an outspoken advocate for women's rights and education and work. just days earlier she expressed concerns about her life being in danger.
