live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. trade tensions in china hitting americans in the wallet. the stock market is plummeting. >> emily turner is following

the market from the live news desk. >> this has been a scary day. it is the worst day on wall street this year. not a great situation. taking a look on the big board, it is down from the dow is down almost 600 points and it has been tumbling on and off and pretty volatile throughout the morning. the worst day of the year so far. this is the result of the trade war that continues with china. you will remember on friday that the u.s. announced tariffs will be put into place or that was the first day that tariffs went into place against chinese goods. in retaliation, china has announced and decided that it will do its own tariffs against u.s. goods. we are talking about $60 billion worth of u.s.

goods and those tariffs will go into effect june 1. we sit down 541 points just before the stock exchange closes. everyone keep an eye on your portfolio and try to stay calm. a minor caltrain derailment in santa clara county is causing systemwide delays in both directions. chopper 5 giving us the shot of workers trying to sort out the mess and dirt at the station in san jose. this derailment happen around 9:15 this morning. no one was injured and no word how long it will take to get things back on track. multiple shootings being investigated within a couple of hours in contra costa county. jackie ward on the search for suspects in richmond. >> reporter: fourcame from wendell playground. as many as tw sidewalk hours after clearing. another shooting happened on 47th and potrero. 40 evidence markers including dozens of bullet casings indicated it was a binary, it was a very violent scene.

>> there was not a gun battle that i'm aware of, and it doesn't appear, but it is appears that there was one shooter in each of these shootings. >> reporter: one victim was shot in the head. the victim is a man who lives in this complex and has a steady job and is always nice to people. they hope these surveillance cameras caught the action. third shooting happened any iron triangle not far from a kaiser hospital. police say it is too soon in investigations to determine whether these were gang-related and the suspect or suspects are still out there. the person who is possibly shot in the head is in serious condition in the hospital in the conditions of the other three victims are unknown. >> they busted and on the, and illegal weapons ring calling it operation redwood. police say that eisuspectsteli make these cities have random

city and other governmental agencies that. a map th shows ere this would go, looking at this area of jack london square at howard terminal. it is a 50 acre site and today, four commissioners will vote on a preliminary term sheet with the team, basically a framework for negotiations over the property that they want to lease including a 35,000 seat ballpark and housing and retail space. they would have 4 years to complete environmental studies and traffic mitigation plans and work through city land-use and private processes. they hope to play ball in the new park by 2023 and the oakland mayor is in full support. >> this is a milestone for oakland. this approval by the port of the term sheet for a ballpark in jack london square is an amazing moment r oakland is to celebrate. and we can have a world-class ballpark and world-class meme. two ot so sure.

the latest round of u.s. tariffs. >> reporter: china is striking back against the u.s. and imposing tariffs of its own. there is a new round of retaliatory taxes of up to 25% on more than 5000 us-made products totaling $60 billion starting june 1. some of the steepest penalties impacting the and vegetables. a spokesman for the foreign ministry says beijing does not believe raising tariffs will solve problems but warned that china is ready to defend itself. the u.s. raised tariffs the 25% on $200 billion of chinese made goods last friday. trade goods between the two countries were cut short and president trump lamed china tweeting this morning, you had a great deal, almost completed, and you backed out. president trump has ordered the u.s. to begin the process of raising tariffs on an additional $300 billion worth of chinese made
