avenue and 34th street for those of you familiar with new york city. that's basically midtown manhattan. at this point no reports on why this happened or how this happened except early reports do say only the pilot was on board, that he did exit this aircraft and he is uninjured. of course at this point you can see live all of these rescue crews on the scene trying to make sure he's out of the water. that he's okay. and in working with the aircraft to secure it and then eventually they will be able to get that out of the water. we will be keeping a close eye on this from here in the newsroom and bring you the very latest with any developments. i'm emily turner at the live news desk. back to you. new at noon, the uc regents board is meeting right now and they are getting a lot of lack bash regarding a potential collaboration with dignity health. jackie ward explains why there are concerns about this partnership among the lgbtq community. >> reporter: 147 people signed up for public comment. that's a record, they spoke for more than an hour and a lot of them were against the potential

partnership with dignity health. >> from transgender students and employees to those who may seek reproductive care like contraception, abortion care and hiv prevention medication, it would be incons unconscionable -- >> reporter: is painful beyond any comprehension rumor evan a transgender man was one who spoke out. he said he was scheduled to have a hysterectomy at a dignity health hospital until his health care provider learned how he identified himself. >> your transgender student will get lost in the system and wind up at a dignity health hospital resulting in harmful discrimination, just like i did. >> reporter: dan diaz was here as an advocate for end of life medication.

his wife took medication to end her life in 2014. he says what he fears what a relationship with a catholic hospital organization will mean for ucsf patients. >> my wife had to leave this state so she would have this option. it would be shocking if now in a state that has passed medical aid dying where a patient would not be able to have these conversations and pursue medical aid in dying here at ucsf. >> reporter: but lynn aims, a registered nurse at ucsf is for the collaboration. >> the ability to deliver care is complicated by the daily challenges around the need for more space, more bids and more operating rooms. >> reporter: dignity health says it already partners with ucsf health on many services and that it has a track record of providing high quality evidence based care. our services are available to all people regardless of background, ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation. the uc regents chair george kiefer is the only one allowed to talk about what transpires here at this meeting and we

were unable to reach him for comment. john perez becomes the new chair tomorrow. at ucsf mission bay, jackie ward, kpix5. right now alabama is one step closer to having the strictest abortion law in the country. last night alabama senate passed a near total ban on abortion in a 25-6 vote under this measure anyone who performs an abortion can be chd a felony now. the bill includes no exceptions for cases of rape or incest. a pregnancy can be terminated only when the mother's life is in danger. earlier today house speaker nancy pelosi had just two words to describe her thoughts on this issue. >> very sad. >> was to address the issue that roe versus wade was decided on which is that baby in the womb a person. >> the fate of the billthe hand republican governor kay ivey. she has not said if she will sign it into law. if she into effect. a san jose woman accused of driving drunk and causing a deadly head-on crash is due in

court today. officers arrested ashley oliver early saturday morning. the chp says they spotted her driving the wrong way on highway 17 but by the time they turned around, she had already hit a car filled with teenagers. washington high school football player armando canalis died in the crash. four other teens were taken to the hospital and have since been w tas onyesterday's deadly shooting in contra costa county. we have just learned the man who was shot and killed in richmond was part of the kpix5 family. 56-year-old miguel ramirez worked as a janitor here at the station. he smiled and greeted un just after 5:00 on chancellor avenue suffering from gunshot wounds. he died at the scene. no word yet on any suspects. meanwhile, police are still looking for the suspects involved in another deadly shooting, this time in oakland. police say a shot spotter tecte rounds being fired overnight near east 17th street and 18th avenue.

clara is partnering with related companies to build nearly 10 million square feet of office space, shops, restaurants and housing, a massive development of 240 acres bigger even than the google campus in downtown san jose. >> this is the largest private development project ever undertaken in this area. >> reporter: the city owned golf course will close in october. employees and golfers got the word last week. but the mayor says the new development will bring in millions of dollars to this d will benit the bay s a be a n modern, relevant, you know, open, inclusive area for everyone, not just santa clara but for the entire silicon valley and bay area. >> reporter: the first businesses are set to open in 2023 and so far we don't know many of the retailers that will go into this development except for one, big hotel equinox. in santa clara, anne makovec,

california. the incident was reported just before 2:00 a.m. in norwalk. a red bmw flew off the freeway and crashed through the wall of the building and ended up inside. one person was in the car at the time of the crash. he is hospitalized. it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors. a woman is now arrested in the case of an elderly man who died after being pushed out of bus in las vegas. we just saw a picture of the surveillance camera video. police say 25-year-old kadeesha bishop pushed the man as he was attempting to get off the bus. witnesses say bishop got into an argument with him and other passengers on the bus prior. bishop now faces a murder charge. we will be right back.

our top story today, the storm has d it's getting worse, mary. >> that's right. this was the first in a series of storm systems that will bring the rain for us. so in the afternoon and evening today, that will be the worst of it as the cold front pushes through. that will bring the strongest winds and the heaviest rain. here's hi-def doppler and you can see light rain, especially for the east bay right now, from el sobrante, richmond, down through berkeley, west alameda, piedmont, alameda there as well as from concord, you can see some moderate rain

across walnut creek, san ramon and antioch at this hour. this is just the start. the heavier rain expected to arrive later in the afternoon and for the evening. here's a live lookthour lesfcecame. tempatg the this hour. so here is the satellite and radar view and there is that s bringing the rain, cooler temps and also kicking up the winds. time it out for you on futurecast. taking you hour by hour, stopping the at 4:00 p.m., as that cold front pushes through, we are going to see widespread soaking rain, you can actually see that line of heavier rain with that cold front. this is at 6:00 p.m. so for the heart of the afternoon and evening commute, it is going to be a mess. as you head through tomorrow, looking at isolated thunderstorms and showers that will continue. your commute cast, taking you through first for the south bay, you can see the showers working their way up the south bay and the peninsula this afternoon, as well as for this evening. this is at 5:00 p.m., across the bay bridge into the east

>> i know. tell that to mother nature. >> there you go. thanks. >> sure. the coast guard says that two more bodies have been recovered near the site of where two float planes collided in alaska on monday. reporter jonathan vigliotti has the latest. >> reporter: newly released images show the scene of the crash site, one plane partially submerged on the shore of george inlet, the other beneath the surface of the water. investigators say they now plan to interview the surviving pilot, passengers and witnesses. >> we will be looking at pilot logbooks. we wil g at e any es. rt: priny data carrying 11 people was heading altitude before the collision. u.s. coast guard senior chief petty officer jeremy kasner says rough terrain complicated the recovery efforts. >> what strikes you about this
