montclair village. we're told there's no injuries. it's unclear right now what called this crash. the former resident known as the american taliban is a free man. >> john walker lindh, the young man who joined the taliban was free after serving a 20-year sentence. lindh was interrogated by johnny mike spann who was killed in a prison uprising. in plea bargain lindh admitted to only legally supporting the taliban. >> we know that he is radicalized. >> reporter: she was a child when her father was killed. she sent a letter to president

trump asking president trump to stop lindh's release. >> i wanted the world to know that mike spann is not the first american killed in afghanistan. he has a family who loves him and misses him. >> reporter: he moved to the middle east to learn arabic after graduating. he joined the taliban before the september 11th terror attacks. analysts and former fbi agent jeff harp worked in terrorism at the time of lindh's arrest. >> what was the network? >> reporter: while he didn't work directly on lindh's case, he said there's plenty of evidence lindh was involved. >> you can't be involved in a bank robbery and say, hey, i was just there to make a deposit. there's more to this.

looking north. we'll continue to see those temperatures climb as we go through the afternoon. high def doppler, dry for the most part. a few showers over the diablo range. so here's the satellite and radar. we're tracking this upper level low that's still to the east. the ridge of high pressure is to the west. the stable pattern has not left us. we're in the dominant influence. because the low is so close to us, you can see a few showers for our inland locations close to morgan hill, closer to that low. otherwise, plenty of sunshine this afternoon. as we head through tomorrow morning starting whoever the delay with low clouds and fog. then we'll see the sun as we head through the afternoon tomorrow. this will bring showers on sunday.

the mission district in san francisco is under pressure from rising rent and gentrification. for decades one nonprofit has been providing services to people who need them the most. we are introduced to this week's jefferson awards winner. >> reporter: it's lunchtime at this missions street dining room and seniors are enjoying good food and conversation and some traditional dancing. >> we serve 60 mills. >> reporter: also making the rounds is santiago ruiz or sam. he's been the center's ceo for 40 years. >> those moments of joy, i want to be part of that. >> reporter: when sam took the reins, they were struggling. the nonprofit was in disrepair.

there were only five employees and it had an operating budget of $185,000 a year. under the guidance, they have increased the workforce to more than 200 and grown the budget to $20 million annually, which some might find ironic. >> i went through two interviews. the first one they declined. the second was the winner. >> reporter: sam's hiring was a win. through its program for children, parents and seniors, mm exr. serves more than 3,000 families every year. daphne brings her two girls to head start. >> how much they're learning. >> reporter: this long time board member said sam is always one step ahead. >> he's a visionary. >> i make this a better place to live. who wouldn't want that job.
