. live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. . three teenagers are under arrest in contra costa county. police say it all started after those teens targeted a gas station. kpix 5, jackie ward, picks it up from there. >> the owner of this gas station tells me this is the second time in two years, his

store has been the target of thieves. around 8:00 last night, according to owner, nick, three masked teens, one girl with a gun, and two boys with knives robbed his store. his cashier was held up at gunpoint. the boys took off with the cash register that had about $600 in it. it's shocking. especially in this town. it's shocking. and i am, to be honest with you, i am scared. i am scared for my employees. it's getting dangerous. i don't know what to do. >> he has 16 surveillance cameras on his property. police are using that video as a key piece of evidence. the teens left here and took off on 24 east with police quickly behind them. missent out a ttjumped they w the stn anh suspts craed the caand were arrested. i'm always telling my

employees your life is a lot more than money. and when something happens, just do what they want and let the police handle it. >> police can if i skated masks, money, and a gun. -- confiscated. >> the district attorney's office may have to keep his cash register as evidence for a year. in alameda county, it's back to the bargaining table to try to end the teacher strike. negotiations between the new haven unified school district and the teachers association restarted at 9:00 this morning in hayward. the teacher's union is asking for a 10% raise over the next two years. the district so farring far hess. teachers say -- is offering far less. they'll continue to strike until the district meets their demands. the california highway patrol maximum enforcement period continues today. they made 741 dui arrests statewide in the first hours of the memorial day holiday

japan. both sides saying that the two countries have an unshakeable bond. but as natalie reports, japan does not agree erwhen it comes some of north korea's missile tests. president trump says he's not concerned with recent north korea short range missile tests. >> there have been no nuclear tests. there have been no ballistic missiles going out. there have been no long range missiles going out. and i think that someday, we'll have a deal. in north korea, short range missiles are well within reach of japan, where the president is taking part in a state visit. the japanese prime minister called the test regrettable. and john bolton says they violate u.n. sanctions. >> my people think it could have been a violation, as you i i view it as a man, perhaps he wants to get attention, and perhaps not.

who knows. >> on the topic of joe biden, president trump sided with north korean dictator, kim jong- un, who echoed the president's words in calling the vice president a low iq individual. >> kim jong-un made a statement that joe biden is a low iq individual, he probably is based on his record. i think i agree with him on that. >> over all, president trump and the prime minister say the trip has been productive. the president says the new countries could have a new trade agreement by august. >> our goal is to reduce our trade deficit with japan. remove trade barriers and barriers of all kinds. >> and the prime minister says he's willing to act as a mediator between the u.s. and iran. something the president says he's open to. earlier the president became the first world leader to meet with japan's newly installed emperor. and he took in a sumo wrestling match over the weekend. natalie brand, cbs news, the

. police in san francisco are still searching for a gunman today. investigators say a man was shot last night at delores park. witnesses say they heard several shots go off. and then saw people running. the victim is expected to be okay. at this time, police do not have a description of the suspect. we will have much more on this story, coming up on the kpix 5 news at 5:00.

and online at kpix.com. shark warning signs are up along a coast in hawaii after a visitor from placer county died in an apparent shark attack over the weekend. dr. thomas smiley was pulled from the water on the back of a jet ski. a shark bit the leg of smiley while he swam 60-yards off the beach in maui. first responders performed cpr. but it was too late. the 65-year-old optometrist died on the scene during a vacation with his wife. >> we were watching the man get pulled up. we could hear her screaming. she was saying that's my husband. that's my husband. >> smiley had just retired this year. hawaii has the second most unprovoked shark attacks in the united states. four of the most fatal shark attacks in the united states occurred on maui.

their phones when they're rolling past first responders. the national safety council found 71% of drivers were taking photos and texting while driving by emergency workers. 60% admitted to posting to social media. and 2/3 have emailed about scenes they're driving by. as soon as they flip on the lights and sirens, driver behave differently. >> i would venture to say it's very common to see somebody on their phone or taking their phone out to try to videotape or get a snap of what's going on. >> i've seen it where they pull out their phone outside their window, and start take pictures, they're not paying attention to the road. >> a move-over law requires drivers to give first responders room to work. urban outfitters is the
