utilities commission approved pg&e's wild fire mitigation plan, that opdiesagainst cutting power unless it's an absolute emergency. >> reporter: this is just the first step in something senate bill 901 requires the cpuc to do on an annual basis. utility companies like pg&e are required to submit mitigation plans. >> it is not something that is clear and well laid out. there is no example of a perfect plan any place thate >> reporter: a couple of weeks ago, cal fire investigators determined the campfire was caused by transmission fires owned by pg&e. that's why the gas electric company will deenergize them in

man they say intentionally drove into a crowded crosswalk in sunnyvale. 34-year-old isaiah peeples is facing two hate crime allegations. he targeted two of the people in the crowd because he thought they were muslim. he already faces eight counts of attempted murder. eight people were hurt in the april crash including a 13-year- old girl who remains on life support. if convicted he could face life in prison. he is due back in court this afternoon. we will have much more on this story coming up on the kpix5 news at 5:00. online, at kpix.com. tyinvestigating a deadly car crash. livermore police say this white sedan rear ended a dirt dump truck near this morning. the driver of this sedan died. we learned he was a 27-year-old lodi man. the truck dr wasn't hurt. no word on what caused the crash. i'm emily turner at the live news desk where the state

superintendent of public schools is weighing in on the eighth day of the new haven school district teacher strike. he says he wants to help, but mostly he wants it to end. in this quote, he said this has gone on long enough. students are losing out on quality educational minutes with their teachers. now again, the eighth day of the strike, tensions are still high. though, starting at 11:00 this morning bargaining teams for both parties were in session. now he is finally weighing in and becoming a part of this process, it will be interesting to see if there is any resolution. of course, we will continue to follow that from right here at the live news desk. i'm emily turner. back to you. presidential candidate elizabeth warren is taking on tech companies in their backyard. this billboard with the headline break up big tech just went up on fourth and townsend in san francisco cease south of market neighborhood. it is just blocks away from the headquarters for lyft. drop box, and other start-ups.

60 minutes correspondent, ening lejournalist scott pelley >> hine reflehis 30 year career. scott, thanks for joining us. >> great to be with you kenny and michelle. wonderful to be on kpix5. >> the book is called the truth worth telling. it took you two years to write this. what do you want readers to take away from this? >> what a great question. i wanted to write a memoir, but not about me. i didn't think anybody would care about that. but it occurred to me i had met

the most fascinating people in the world who had discovered the meaning of their lives in some of the historic events of our times and that's what the book is about. it's about those people. and, the events that i witnessed. >> and these are people from presidents to everyday people. >> famous people. bruce springstein. presidents are in there. but a lot of people you have never heard of like a nurse, an air force nurse i met in iraq who hever own blood to save a marine who was dying in the operating room at a combat field hospital. inspiring stories about our is chronicles your career. but you don't start off with the recent events but with 9/11. tell us why. >> that was the most important event i ever covered the most wrenching event. i was at the world trade center when the buildings came down. i remember watching the firefighters and the fire

department and the city of new york just trooping into those buildings. we forget this. but, 343 firefighters were killed in 90 minutes on that day. the first chapter in the book is called gallantry. and it is all about the sacrifice i witnessed. >> after that, you have seen so much throughout your career. do you take notes after so you remember what is going on? >> i have all my notebooks from about 40 years. my wife for years has said what soof what's in the book thi ed is literally going through old notebooks, old video tapes to remind myself of what i see. what i saw, and what happened. >> and you wrote one of the chapters on a flight to hong kong? >> airplanes are great. you sit there, they bring you coffee, you can work, the phone's not ringing. and i wrote the chapter about

14 miles an hour out of sfo, the west, southwest. 13 in san francisco. looking at 19 miles an hour winds in san ramon. 14 in concord d,7 miles an hour winds right now. it is all because of this upper level low moving close enough to us. some of the isolated showers could drift into the far north bay as we head through the afternoon and on futurecast. you can see that we are looking at cool weather for all of us today. tomorrow starting off the day with low clouds. sunshine, temps warming upstarting friday. and then through the next several days. the heat definitely will be on feeling more like summer. our sunset at 8:24. sunrise at 5:49. daytime highs below average this time of year, i'm sure you felt it. stepping outside. 62 in san francisco. 65 in oakland. 70 in redwood city. mountain view, 71 in fremont. and 72 for san jose. so, after we get through today,
