york. good to be with you. i'm anne marie green. a deadly helicopter crash in new york city is renewing calls to ban nonessential helicopter flights over the nation's largest city. yesterday the chopper crashed killing the pilot, the only person on board. terrorism is not expected. u.s. congresswoman is calling a ban on nonessential helicopter flights saying they are too dangerous. we are at the scene of the crash in manhattan with details on the investigation and what we have learned so far about the pilot. laura? >> reporter: good morning, anne marie. 58-year-old tim mccormick was not only a veteran pilot but a volunteer firefighter here in hico stiothat ca waherela an investigator from the national transportation safety board is en route to new york to begin looking into yesterday's

safe to crash in the water. it's not safe to land in the streets or on the rooftops. >> reporter: officials stress this crash does appear to be an accident and not terror related. the white house says that the president was briefed on this accident and called new york governor andrew cuomo to offer federal assistance if necessary. anne marie? >> laura, thank you so much. former boston red sox slugger david ortiz is back in boston this morning where he is receiving treatment after being shot in the dominican republic. on sunday ortiz was shot in the lower back in a nightclub in santo domingo. he underwent surgery in the dominican republic. last night he was flown by charter to boston where he is listed in stable condition. his spokesman said doctors removed ortiz's gallbladder and part of his intestine. his liver was also damaged. suspects are being questioned by police.e e depart expected to provide house rter'.

criticized by members of both parties and the business community. the deal included accelerated deployment of 6, mt a 13-year high. it requires a program for people seeking asylum in the u.s. to remain in mexico while their claims are being processed. the white house says the deal is all new. but, in fact, the asylum provision was announced by former homeland security secretary kirjsten nielsen in december. >> they will not be able to disappear into the united states. >> reporter: and mexico had already agreed to send the national guard. >> what he did here is typical of the president's game show foreign production, a big production without very much progress. >> reporter: on mexico's southern border with guatemala, traffic of migrants appeared to be unaffected, with no mexican national guard troops in sight.
