and the high temperatures today. >> that's right. so the place to be today to beat the heat, along the coast. ocean beach camera. it is hot inland. temperatures in the 90s. let's show you the temperatures. 96 currently. liver more, 98 degrees. 94 san jose. and the temperatures are only going to climb through the afternoon. excessive heat warning still in effect for the east bay inland valleys. heat advisory for most of the bay area. the north bay, east bay, santa clara and the shoreline under a heat advisory. many locations under the advisory and warning except near the coast. and we have a spare the air alert geb today.

the air quality unhealthy for the east bay. and we'll let you know when the stronger on shore flow will make it for a big cool down. thating up. and b.a.r.t. is taking action today to try to prevent further troubles due to the heat. the system experienced major delays during the evening commute because of the trackway equipment problems. the officials said they'll distribute additional air conditioning units and technicians postponing the scheduled maintenance to focus on tackling the issues due to overheating. and firefighters are teaming up today to prepare for a busy wild fire season. emergency responders from several agencies took part in a preparedness exercise in san jose this morning. the goal to make sure they're ready to respond and help each other in the event of an emergency. >> it starts with the firefighters on the fire line.

do the tools and techniques line up? those are the things the crews on the ground are practicing. >> this is the first day of a three-day exercise to prepare for a fire emergency. and the warriors are still alive. they squeaked out a win last night in game five of the nba finals. but the win came with a huge loss. >> jackie ward is here with more on kevin durant's injuries. >> reporter: we're reeling emotionally from the end of the game. we asked the warriors fans in an unofficial poll. i'll share the results in a second. many of us watched durant return to the lineup after a calf injury. he needs an mri today after leaving the beginning of the second quarter. the team is hoping it is not a torn achilles. he gave the squad a spark, scoring 11 points in if first quarter.

he grabbed his leg in the second quarter and a lot of the nation gasped. we hope to learn the full extent of the injuries today. the general manager got choked up as he read a statement regarding the situation. he said he was seen by experts and doctors before being approved to play last night. >> i don't believe there's anybody to blame. but i understand this world. and if you have to, you can blame me. i run our best operations department. >> so we asked you on social media what you thought about darnt coming back. do you think he was allowed to return too soon? the unofficial poll results show 147 of us said yes, definitely. 165 said nope, not at all. tight there. and fans get to cheer one more time in person this week. game six of the finals is thursday night at 6:00 p.m.

this is video from the crash scene early monday morning. his name is kwenten wiggins. 17 years old. he was driven southbound on 101 at the time of the crash and veered off and struck a tree and the car caught fire. and he unfortunately died in the accident. the school community is mourning the loss this morning. he is a star athlete both in basketball as well as in football at branson. the community is reaching out to his family this morning. in the meantime, live, emily turner. and the defense of the ghost ship trial says in the days to come, they will likely call city officials to the stand after a key witness testified yesterday. attorneys for the men say the fire was arson. yesterday's key witness said on the night of the fire, she heard young men congratulating

each other. another witness saw two men running for the exit. more testimony is expected later this week. and police in vacaville searching for the suspects in an early-morning shooting. authorities blocked off robin drive today and found the shooting victim around 2:20 this morning. he's 21 years old and in critical condition. authorities looking for the get away car, a four-door dark colored sedan. so far, no arrests and no motive. and investigators are trying to determine the exact cause of this fire at a vacant building in san leandro. it broke out at a homeless encampment around 10:40 last night. here is a look at the aftermath. this used to be a poultry company building. crews stayed on scene today. no reported injuries. and in about an hour, a vote that could leave hundredsover thousands of water customers are higher bills.

$20 million as part of a settlement with federal regulators. and house democrats push ahead with a vote to enforce congressional subpoenas the trump administration defied. they will vote on a resolution to allow comple committees to sue the trump administration. if passed, the house could make a case in court the attorney general must turn over documents and testify before congress. the white house has instructed them and others not to comply with the subpoenas. this morning, president trump tweeted this, saying, presidential harassment and republicans in congress agree. >> seeing on the floor again this week, speaker nancy pelosi wasting the majority on presidentful harassment rather than focusing on the priorities of the american people. >> the entire clock is committed to make this. and he hold the administration accountable. >> the justice department agreed to turn over material

collected during the mueller investigation. and they ask avoided held in contempt of congress. and investigators in manhattan met with first responders for an examination of the fatal helicopter crash. plans are underway to remove the helicopter by this evening. the ntsb added there are no indications the pilot of the chopper reached out to air traffic control before the crash landing on the roof of a 54-story building. the pilot died. authorities say he had 15 years of flying experience. and still ahead, americans reconsidering travel to the dominican republic after a series of mysterious deaths. the investigations underway. and target boosting its benefits for employees with families. the added perks to try to attract workers.

. red sox slugger david ortiz is recovering in a boston area hospital after shot in the dominican republic. the athlete was flown from his home country to the u.s. last night. authorities say he was ambushed at a bar. it was not clear if the attack was planned. one person is in custody right now. but the gunman is still on the loose. some americans are reconsidering the vacations to the dominican republic after a series of mysterious deaths. . six tourists died there in the last months.

that includes a california man. >> reporter: his family said he was in the dominican republic and quickly became sick and died shortly after drinking a scotch from the mini bar at the hard rock hotel and casino. his family has no answers. we know of five other americans who have died in the dominican republic in the last year. most recently, a couple from maryland and this woman. all three died at the same hotels. the preliminary autopsies released by the dominican republic authorities say they had fluid in their lungs. toxicology reports have not been released. >> something dirty at the bottom of this. >> reporter: and this woman died too. she says last year, she had a drink at the mini bar and went to bed and never woke up.

>> they don't have a clear explanation as to what's happening. we're not going to risk it. we don't want to be next. >> and cbs news confirmed that investigators in the dominican republic are relying on fbi labs to examine the toxicology results for the three people who died in may. the resorts say that the deaths are not connected and the staff follow the protocols. and target is boosting the employee benefits. starting this fall, target offers up to four weeks paid time off annually to care for a newborn or sick family member. and new moms get an additional six to eight weekses of paid maternity leave. and target employees receive 20 days of backup care through a network. and father's day spending the expected to hit a record this year. americans plan to shell out $16 billion on the day.

as we go through the next several days, stronger on shore flow and the stronger marine influence for all of us, cooling us down finally. on futurecast, you can see plenty of sunshine. through tomorrow, we'll see a few more clouds and look at temperatures cooler as well through wednesday and especially thursday and friday. the ocean breeze has kicked in for us along the coast. that's where we're seeing most of that cooling influence for us near the coast with the ocean temperature at 55.9 degrees. so all of us, we need the cool air from the coast. and we're going to get that as we head through the next several days. thursday, friday, with the normal june weather pattern with on shore flow for all of us. sunset, 8:31. sunrise, 5:47. the daytime mies, triple digit heat fairfield and concord and ermore. c the

. well, today's tip of the day is baby artichokes. you have to buy the baby artichokes if you love the hearts. they're out of this world. because 50% of the artichoke is the center of the artichoke. make sure the beautiful skin is all the way around. if it has a little bit of discoloration, that's okay. not too much. squeeze it can want hear it squeak, it's fresh. and the leaves nice and tight on the top. in the refrigerator right away. and baby artichokes, this is where you go. i'm the fresh grocer. and remember to eat fresh and stay healthy and grill the baby artichoke hearts too. after you cook them put them on the grill for a couple of minutes with the olive oil.
