good morning from cbs news headquarters in new york. good to be with you. i'm ann marie green. tensions between the u.s. and iran are heating up, the trump administration is blaming tehra ers. the ships were targeted yesterday near the strait. this morning iran says the accusations against tehran are alarming. we have a reporter in new york with new evidence released by the u.s. military that apparently proves tehran was behind the attacks. laura, good morning. >> good morning. yes, there is new video evidence that you'll see in a moment. iran says it's not behind the attacks and this is not the first time that country has denied involvement. tehran previously used mines against oil tankers in 1987 and 1988. the white house is pointing a f

tankers were attacked in the gulf of oman yesterday. they were carrying oil products when rocked by explosions. mike pompeo blamed iranian mines. >> this is based on intelligence, weapons used and level of expertise needed to execute the operation, similar attacks on shipping and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area have the proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication. >> they released this video. officials say it shows members of the revolutionary guard removing an unexploded mine from the hull of the ship, a japanese vessel. however, the owner of that ship says its crew saw flying objects prior to the explosion suggesting mines were not involved. the attacks happened as japanese prime minister shinzo abe met with leaders in iran. >> prime minister made a trip to

ask them to enter into talks. the supreme leader rejected the diplomacy by saying he has no response to president trump and will not answer. >> iran's u.n. mission issued a statement denying any involvement in the attacks calling the accusation "iranophobic." president trump is holding a meeting with secretary of state pompeo today and it is the president's 73rd birthday. >> laura here in new york, thank you. president trump once again has an opening for a high profile job in his administration. sarah sanders is stepping down as white house press secretary at the end of the month. she's been a fierce defender of the president. ben tracy reports. >> she's a special person, a very, very fine woman.

>> reporter: president trump spoke warmly about one of the longest serving advisors. >> i want to thank you for an outstanding job. thank you. thank you. >> reporter: the president called sarah sanders a warrior perhaps because dug her two years as press secretary, she not only spoke for him. she often spoke a lot like him, too. >> it's frankly, i think sad and pathetic that a gutless anonymous source could receive so much attention from the media. she could be combative. she rarely hid her feelings from the press corps. >> everybody in this room is only trying to do their job. >> i disagree completely. >> during her tenure, the podium in the briefing room gathered dust. sanders ended the traditional of holding daily white house press briefings. it's been 90 days since the last one. sanders truthfulness has also been questioned. when president trump fired james comey, sanders was pressed by reporters who said comey was

political statements while acting in an official capacity. conway's alleged violations centered around two television appearances during the runup to the alabama senate special election in 2018. the white house is defending conway saying that actions against her are flawed and violate her right to free speech and due process. a search is under way this morning for one of the now ten suspects involved in the shooting of red sox legend david ortiz. dominican authorities brought in new suspects yesterday, all are alleged to have been involved in the shooting on sunday. police are still looking for the surgeon. u.s. authorities say that he is also wanted for an attempt the

homicide in pennsylvania, similar to the shooting involving ortiz. ortiz was shot in the back at bare in the dominican republic. the man accused in the mat shooting at two new zealand mosques has pleaded not guilty. he appeared in court via a video link this morning in christchurch. he is facing 92 charges including 51 counts of murder for the march terror attack. if convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison. a trial date has been set for next may. cuba gooding jr. has been charged with alleged sexual misconduct at a new york city nightclub. if convicted, he could go to prison for a year. yesterday the oscar winning actor voluntarily surrendered to the charges. teresa duncan reports. >> reporter: it was a smile cuba gooding jr. flashes on the red carpet but he walked into a new york city police office where he was photographed, handcuffed and charged with a crime. >> i have never seen a case like this one because there is not a

piece of criminal copability that can be attributed to mr. cuba gooding jr. >> tmz obtained video of what appears to be gooding touching the victim at a new york city club sunday night. >> do you maintain you didn't do anything wrong? >> yes. >> what do you say about the video? >> watch it. >> the actor has long been dogged by accusations of bad behavior. his lawyer disputed another allegation from a second woman who says gooding groped her in 2008. the actor's hollywood career started with the 1991 movie "boys in the hood" and he won for the role in the 1996 film "jerry mcguire." >> show me the money! show me the money! >> the hollywood star now wants to spotlight the entire surveillance video from the club to show what he calls the truth.

criminal justice conference. knox was met by reporters and photographers yesterday when she arrived. she served four years for the murder and sexual assault of her college roommate before an appeals court overturned her guilty verdict in 2011. tomorrow knox will take part in a panel on trial by media. >> i think it is very, very brave of amanda to come back here. i think it's important that she's here because for an entire country, she was the biggest case of someone being convicted and now she's the biggest case of someone being exonerated. >> knox has been active in raise ago wareness around wrongful convictions. michigan prosecutors dropped criminal charges against eight officials involved in the flint water contamination scandal. they say the investigation was mishandled and they'll start over again from scratch. the charges included involuntary manslaughter. the officials could be charged again in the future.

an outbreak of disease five years ago killed 12 people. it happened when the city was using improperly treated water from the flint river. the water supply was also contaminated with lead at the time. and usa today says a california high school valedictoria ked the when she slammed school staff during her inauguration speech. her speech last week started with her thanking those who are have helped her. she praised some teachers but then criticized a counsellor for being unavailable and the office staff for failing to let her know about available scholarships until it was almost too late. and she also talked about one teacher. >> to the teacher who was regularly intoxicated during class this year. thank you for using yourself as an example to these students about the dangers of alcoholism. >> a spokesperson for the school district said the speech was inappropriate and out of line.

on the cbs money watch, facebook gets big backers for its cryptocurrency and a new flower recall. tom hanson is at the new york stock exchange with that. >> the cost of oil rose for a second day following attacks on two oil tankers in the middle east. the attacks pushed oil prices up as much as 4.5% on thursday. a report just released by opec says world demand for oil will rise by more than one million barrels we are day this year. that is 70,000 barrels less than previously expected. and stocks closed higher yesterday lead by gains in retailers, media, and energy companies. the dow gained 101 points. the s&p 500 added 11 points and nasdaq was up 44 points. and more flour is recalled following an e. coli outbreak. 14,000 cases of five pound king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour off store shelves. the recall product was distributed through retailers

and distributors nationwide including walmart. so far no illnesses have been reported. but just last month the cdc said 17 people across eight states reported being sickened after eating flour. and visa, mastercard, paypal and uber are backing facebook's new cryptocurrency. according to "the wall street journal," the social media giant signed on more than a dozen backers for its digital coin. each of the new backers will reportedly invest roughly $10 million in the project as part of a governing consortium for the cryptocurrency. and the joe gurt company chobani offered to pay student lunch debt at an idaho school district. they say the donation would cover $85,000 in debt acquired by more than 900 students during the last schoolier.

our top stories this morning, iran is rejecting accusation that's it's behind attacks on two oil tankers. iran's foreign minister called the allegations part of a plot by politicians in the u.s. the pentagon released video it claims shows iranian forces removing an unexploded mine from one of the tankers. and white house press secretary sarah sanders is stepping down at the end of the month. president trump has not named a successor. sanders will return to her home in the state of arkansas where her father once served as governor. she did not rule out running for governor of arkansas herself. and fans are anything but

cool, but no one is complaining unless you love triple digit heat. it is friday, june 14th, 2019. >> let's get a look at weather and traffic. >> good morning julian and kenny. clouds, fog and patchy drizzle this morning because of strong onshore flow kicking in and we'll see temperatures a little bit cooler compared to yesterday afternoon. right now in the mid- to upper 50s to low 60s to kickoff our friday. so we're going to see temperatures right around where we should be for this time of year, seasonal 60s this afternoon. looking at about 70 in oakland and 80 for a high in san jose and concord. we'll talk about the all important weekend forecast and father's day coming up. it starts to feel like the weekend as far as the roadways are concerned. let's look at the main travel times here at 4:30. they are all in the green.
