good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york, good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, today pentagon officials plan to release photos that they say prove iran was behind the attacks on two oil tankers in the gulf of oman. last week the attacks raised tensions between the u.s. and iran. secretary of state mike pompeo says the u.s. is considering all options including a military response. natalie brand is in washington. natalie, what are these photos expected to show us? >> well, anne-marie, u.s. officials tell cbs news the photos are expected to show remnants of one of the mines they believed were planted by the iranian navy, and this comes as some of our allies are asking for more concrete evidence linking iran to these recent tanker attacks. the two ships at the center of the latest standoff between the u.s. and iran are now anchored

off the coast of the united emirates. the tankers were damaged last week as they navigated through the strait of hormuz. the trump administration insists iran was behind the attacks. secretary of state mike pompeo says president trump does not want war, but considers all military options. >> pompeo has been working to rally against iran, but today only saudi arabia and uk have acknowledged that it's happened. >> wow you would think it would be pretty obvious. you have video evidence showing what the iranians were doing. >> democrat adam schiff says the white house has a credibility problem. >> there's no question iran is behind the attacks. the problem is we're struggling even in the midst of this solid evidence to have our allies show join us in any kind of a

response, and it shows just how isolated the united states has become. >> the japanese and german government say they need to see more evidence before making a determination. and secretary of state pompeo has also indicated that more evidence will soon be released. note that the u.n. security council meets today in new york, so we will be waiting and watching to see if this topic is brought up and discussed. anne-marie? >> all right, natalie. natalie brand. thank you very much. this morning in hong kong activists are calling for people to boycott work and classes. this follows yesterday's mass protest against yesterday's extradition bill in china. about 2 million people crowded the streets. thigh called f ee eed -- they c the leader to resign. the leader is now apologizing for its mishandling of it. >> reporter: consumed by anger

and a cloud of black, a crowd marched through, announcing the extension of beijing. they're furious with their leader carrie lam. you can see the people are defiant, they're angry, holding all these placards, and they're saying carrie lam, chief executive, resign. on saturday she hit the pause button indefinitely on controversial legislation. violence wednesday forced the government to backpedal. police were accused of using excessive force. several dozen people were hurt. a protester hanging a banner fell to his death on saturday night, adding to the outrage. citizens paid their respects.

prepares to kick off his official campaign, democratic presidential candidates are fighting for votes on the campaign trail. cbs news looks at potential voters and states. it's early, but the polls show that joe biden is leading. senators elizabeth warren and bernie sanders are behind him. senator kamala harris rounds out the top tier. the national weather service has confirmed powerful storms swept through the midwest spawning at least nine tornadoes. central indiana felt the brunt of those storms saturday night. at least 26 homes were damaged in ellisville. one man got caught in the middle of strong winds in a parking lot. >> i swear i thought i was going to die. i thought i wasn't going to see my family again. >> an area in richmond, indiana,

was industdestroyed. a mall was torn up. there were no major injuries. the maier of phoenix is apologizing following a video that shows a confrontation between police and a young family. officers are seen pointing their guns, threatening to shoot a father who was with his pregnant fiancee and two children. jonathan vigliotti reports. >> reporter: cellphone video captured the chaos as phoenix police officers at times countered like hit men. inside this suv dravon ames and his fiancee iesha harper along with their two children. >> he needs to slow down. the kids is right there. >> reporter: the woman in the video asking to take the kids. >> excuse me. can i get the kids.

years. in april he told the crowd he might remain in the oval office at least 10 to 14 years. the second amendment limits a president's term to two terms. the "los angeles times" report as man shot and killed by an officer at a costco was reportedly nonverbal and had an intellectual disability. that's according to his cousin. the man was shopping with his family friday night when hi was attacked while holding his young son. the investigators say the officer fired his gun, killing the 32-year-old. his parents were also shot. the child was not hurt. the shoppers ran when the shots were fired. >> you don't think it's going to happen to you until it does. ploo police have not said if french had any weapons or if the officer identified himself as a police officer before firing his

they say it was not consistent and that's unacceptable. the faa faulted boeing for not telling regulators for more than a year that a safety indicator in the cockpit didn't work. the faa grounded 737 max jets indefinitely. target is apologizing for a glitch that stalled out checkout lines over the weekend. the outage periodically caused cash remsters to not process orders, cashiers unable to cash out people. long lines frustrating customers. they say the outage was caused by an error made during regular maintenance. there is a massive recall over pasta sauces. take a look at these labels. the recall affects 45- and 66-ounce jars of ragu chunky tomato and onion, 66-ounce ragu old world style traditional and

people took part. the protests will continue until the bill is scrapped altogether. the recent sue side of a police officer in new york is the third in less than two weeks. as kenneth craig reports, it's a growing problem across the nation. >> reporter: the most recent suicide right outside the precinct on new york's staten island was a six-year veteran of new york. 29-year-old michael caddy. the tragedy, the police commissioner said in a statement, is part of a mental health crisis and law enforcement as a whole must take action. earlier this month two others died by suicide, one a respected chief, the other an experienced detective. >> cops have to know there are avenues for help and it's not a weakness to ask for help. it's a strength. >> reporter: the three deaths are part of a disturbing trend nationwide. last year at least 167 officers died by suicide. that's more than the number who died in the line of duty
