good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at headqs new york. it's good to be with you.een. today the white house is expected to announce new sanctions on iran, it's in response to iran's downing of an unmanned under surveillance drone last week. iran this morning described it actions as a firm response to the u.s. and warned it could be repeated. laura podesta is here in new york. laura, the president has sent a very stern warning to iran. what exactly did he say? >> reporter: anne-marie, the president has said he does not want war. he warned iran it would face obliteration if conflict did break out. president trump had dispatched two of his top aids to the middle east to gather allied support against iran. >> reporter: we will be talking to them about how he with strategically alignened and build a coalition. >> reporter: before mike pompeo

barnett, "cbs news," the white house. democratic presidential candidate pete buttigieg faced angry constituents at a town hall in his hometown of south bernhard, indiana. >> thank you, the naacp ain't never been here. >> reporter: it followed a shooting of a black man by a white police officer. it comes amid strained relations. buttigieg says while his presidential campaign is important, he will not run away from the problems facing south bend. >> i'm sick of these things being talked about in political terms, in theoretical terms like it's a show. it's people's lives. >> buttigieg still plans to par tase i tis wait in this week's presidential debate in florida. the national weather service will be in south bend today to

assess a reported tornado that touched down over the weekend. the possible twister was caught on camera when it hit last night. some buildings were destroyed and several power lines were knocked down. there were no reports of any major injuries, though. and a wildfire in arizona that's been burning for two weeks now is still growing. the fire is burning in on theto national forest east of phoenix. fire officials say it has grown to 150 miles. authorities are hopeful it will stop after it runs out of fume in burned out areas. there is no immediate threat to people and homes. the closest town is more than 50 miles away. the ntsb says it will examine, repair inspection records on a skydiving pla enthat crashed and killed 11 people in hawaii. the plane went down friday in an air field on oahu's north shore. investigators say the same plane sustained tail damage in a california accident in 2016.

jonathan biglioti reports. >> i looked over, a big old ball of fire. i said, wow. >> reporter: car loss sabato works for a parachute center. the plane went down and killed 11 on board. >> what a shame. i saw it hit. i was right there, man. i was right there. i actually heard the boom. boom. >> reporter: he drove the customers to their sunset tandem flight. he is one of the last people to speak to the victims be every the crash. it must have been a moment of disbelief for you? >> yeah, it was. it was. >> reporter: the ntsb is combing through the charred wreckage, investigating what caused the twin turbine beech craft air to fall out of the sky. among the victims another victim joshia drablos graduated from the naval academy. his family says they are

devastated and in shock. the sky driver was friends with the crew. he believes the plane was fit to fly. >> put it this way, i would have jumped out of that plane. >> reporter: the plane was involved in an incident in california three years ago, 14 die divers had to jump to safety after the plane started spinning. ntsb later determined pilot error played a role. witnesses from the hawaii flight say the plaep appeared to turn around just after takeoff. there wasn't enough time for those on board to jump to safety. there were terrifying moments in missouri when a hot air balloon plowed into a crowd of people. more than 1,000 people were at saturday's festival in hannibal, celebrating the city's bisen ten yell. some people were knocked to the ground. at least three people were hurt.

sanders will propose a bill today to eliminate all $1.6 trillion of u.s. federal debt. he wants the federal government to pay for the debt held by 45 million americans, including all private and graduate school debt. the proposal would also make public universities, community colleges and trade schools tuition free. he says the plan would be paid paid for by a tax on wall street that would raise more than $2 trillion of ten years. >> i think making public colleges and universities tuition free and very substantially lowering student debt, which is an incredible burden on an entire generation of people is going to win us a lot of support. >> similar legislation will also be introduced in the house today. and the salt lake tribune reports on the disappearance of a 23-year-old university of utah student. mackenzie louek was returning home from her grandmother's funeral in southern california.

being misdirected. hughway is at the center of a trade dispute between washington and beijing. earlier this month, china launched an investigation over fed-ex over hauwei packages being delivered to the wrong address. air canada is investigating how crew members overlooked a sleeping passenger and left her on the plane. the airline says it happened earlier this month after a flight to toronto. the woman says that she woke up alone on a dark and cold aircraft. he tried using a flashlight to signal someone from a window. no one noticed her. she finally managed to unbolt a cabin door and yelled to a ground crew who helped her off the plane. they said she was in contact with a passenger. retailers are selling goods and services celebrating the lbgtq culture for pride mopth. they range from macy's same sex wedding registries to digital

our top stories this morning. the white house is expected to unveil new sanctions against iran today. the move comes after last week's shoot down of an unmanned u.s. drone. iran this morning describes its actions as a firm response to the u.s. and warned it could be repeated. iran says the u.s. drone was over iranian airspace but the u.s. denies that. the house law make verse two weeks to change asylum laws before president trump will begin dispatching i.c.e. agents to depart undocumented immigrants. the president delayed the raids that were set to begin in tent cities around the country over the weekend. the decision came following a phone call between mr. trump and house speaker nancy pelosi.

and there are new calls to ban horse racing after the death of the 30th horse at california's santa anita racetrack since december. protesters gathered outside the park on the final day of racing season. candace chrone was there. >> shame on you. >> reporter: animal rights activists shouted at spectators after a 30ette horse died this season. >> we are fed up with their excuses. there isn't no safety measures they don't have. they're just enhanced. we're still seeing dying horses here. >> reporter: on saturday, american currency, a 4-year-old gelding injured his leg while training and had to be euthanized. he was owned by jerry hallendorfer. three other horses he trained have died this season. the problem is much bigger and they are calling for the sport to be banned entirely?
