gets back to normal. four people murdered in santa clara county ending an hours long standoff in san jose. i'm emily turner. >> and i'm michelle griego. this happened near the lagos golf course, jackie ward tells us reporter: the people live around here were finally allowed back into their homes early this morning as police continue to investigate how four people were killed last night. police say when they arrived to san jose around 8:40 last night, several family members were running away from a home. police learned two people, a man and a woman, had been shot. they were both taken to the hospital where they later died. police say two other women and the shooter were still unaccounted for. they used flash bangs.

police entered the home and found two women and the suspect dead from one gunshot wound. mario libed had just returned home from a hawaiian vacation and was taking his dog out when he heard the gunshots. >> they said stay off the street. go inside. >> reporter: jacob lopez lives across the street and. this is typically a friendly, quiet neighborhood. >> everyone here is pretty chill. this is a big shock to all of us. >> reporter: police are classifying this as a murder suicide because they believe the suspect shot the four victims before shooting and killing himself. the identities of the suspect and the victims are all been withheld until next of kin is notified. in san jose, jackie ward, kpix5. police say this is one of the deadliest mass shootings in san jose history. >> i have been here 27 years.

i don't remember an incident like this where four people were murdered. and, it is just sad overall when you have something like that happen. it's terrible. >> we'll have much more on this story coming up on the kpix5 news at 5:00 and online at kpix.com. an investigation sundays way in alameda county after a suspicious fire caused several homeowners to evacuate in fremont. anne makovec is there. >> reporter: firefighters are still on scene here to make sure this fire doesn't reignite. the video started appearing on social media at around 10:00 last night when this fire started because of what police are calling a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. they are not saying how it started but when fire crews arrived, the situation was getting out of control. >> they found approximately five acre fire headed up the hillside. >> reporter: sovereign power saw the glow from her window.

she prepared to evacuate first alerting her son. >> i said wake up. he said why? i said because we have a fire very close behind our home. he said oh mom, don't worry. i said no, you look and you will worry. >> reporter: they didn't have to leave their homes but gathered their things as ten nearby homes were evacuated. firefighters from fremont got reenforcements from hayward and alameda county and were helped by calm winds and high humidity. the fire stopped before burning any structures. >> very steep terrain but the crews got it contained within a couple of hours. >> thank god, police and firefighters working so we can sleep very well at nighttime. >> reporter: and firefighters will remain on scene here all day. as for the criminal charges, rather than arson, the fremont police said they are looking at reckless disregard for public safety. in fremont, anne makovec, kpix5. another county road is shut down hours after a crash left

hundreds of people without power in american canyon. it happened around 2:00 a.m. when a car slammed into a power pole on flawston road forcing the road to close. power is expected to be restored in three hours. no word on the driver's condition. in san francisco, a 39-year- old man died in a nasty crash in the richmond district this morning. you can see debris scattered across the intersection at park precidio and california street. two others were injured in the crash. police are investigating if impairment was a factor. this afternoon, the man accused of killing two people along skyline boulevard in san mateo county is scheduled to be arraigned. 26-year-old malik tashugi is charged with the murders. the motive remains unclear. new at noon, president trump is taking action against iran after the drone last week attack on a pair of oil

tankers, katherine johnson has the story. >> reporter: president trump signed an executive order issuing new sanctions on iran. >> today's action follows aggre by the iranian regime including shooting down a u.s. drone. >> reporter: the sanctions target their supreme leader preventing him from using the united states financial system or accessing any assets in the united states. >> the supreme leader of iran is one who ultimately is responsible for the hostile conduct of the regime. >> reporter: the u.s. accuses iran's revolutionary guard for shooting down a drone over international waters. it was in iranian air space and is prepared to shoot down more, cbs news the president approved a cyber strike for rocket and missile launches. president trump stopped a mill stair strike on iran following the drone attack and now he says he wants to talk to iran's leaders. >> i look forward to discussing whatever i have to discuss with

new research shows drinking a cup of coffee can stimulate what is known as brown fats. the fat you warm by burning calories. dr. david agis is a cbs news medical contributor. >> normal fat stores energy, calories. brown fat has a lot of iron which is why it is brown around its purpose is to generate heat. is goal is to stimulate it. exercise stimulates it. good sleep. and now, we know caffeine or coffee can do the same. >> reporter: the study published in scientific reports is one of the first to be carried out in people. previous research shows drinking coffee may have many health benefits including a lower risk of diabetes, cardio vascular and death. don't drink more than three cupping of coffee a day. no coffee after 1:00 or 2:00. caffeine half-life is six hours. it will only be half the level
