michelle g anmecca cant for kenny choi. it was e quak that struck nethe town of ridgecrest. that's in kern county. about 150 miles northeast of los angeles. there have been dozens of aftershocks in the area. take a look at the moments right when it hit. >> this video was taken from inside the newsroom of our sister station in la. you can see the light textures and other equipment swaying. and people shouting in the distance. usgs officials say the quake was felt as far south as orange county. people there caught these images during the shake. you can see the chandelier just swaying from the ceiling there. in los angeles, this was the scene in people's backyards. waves surging inside pulls. and, check out this fish tank. what are moving back and forth. the shake is being labeled as the largest quake in southern california since the 1994 northridge, which killed dozens

and caused billions of dollars i the building rolling. and, looked at the ceiling. i saw my living room apartment, i have a high ceiling. i saw it going side to side. so, i just happened to look over to my shades and saw them going. so, i knew it was an earthquake. and it stopped briefly, and it started again and started shaking. it will, we've got an earthquake. >> at the moment, there are no reports of any injuries. in fact, we have a lot of people had some time to spare after getting a shake alert warning on the smartphones. the system worked and said there is an earthquake of about 6.2. producing energy. the warning came through. in los angeles, there was a 48 second warning that the shaking was arriving. this grocery store took a hit as the shaking emptied the shelves. but at this point, no reports of any major >>switching gears

weather. let's look outside. this is the san francisco waterfront right now. looks beautiful. in a few hours, people will gather there to watch the fireworks. the question,thr cooperat little y,mary. e close almorning. how is it looking? >> for tonight, especially for the coast in the san francisco bay, if you're heading out for the fireworks shows tonight, we are going to see low clouds and areas of fog rolling. we have a stronger seabreeze that we are tracking. and this is what you can expect. with some low clouds and patchy fog, likely, returning between 8, 9, 10 p.m. this is that microclimate forecast for fisherman's wharf tonight. so, let's take you through this evening. and that fireworks forecast. for 6 pm at fisherman's wharf, 63 degrees.: breezy. 9 pm, upper 50s with low clouds likely.

other locations, looking great. especially in land. perfect fireworks viewing weather, with temperatures in the low 70s. mainly clear in land. but again, wer the coast and fo bay. were going to talk about a warm up as we head through the rest of the week i will let you know when temperatures will soar into the low 90s in some spots coming up. michelle? fourth of july celebrations are underway all of the bay area. and, celebrating in danville means waking up extra early to snag a good spot to set up your chair. kpix 5's jackie ward was with hundreds of people who think it is well worth the effort. with sunny skies and a temperature just right, it was the perfect morning to have a parade. and celebrate america's birthday. >> reporter: from the dogs to the cute kids, downtown danville was filled with families like the christmann's, who has made this a yearly

hit a power pole in the area of calaveras road and piedmont road. they found a car with major damage down an embankment. officers determined to the driver, morales, was under the influence of alcohol, and arrested him. the crash caused a power outage in the area, and traffic is blocked well e.g. any repairs the power pole. it is expected to reopen at 4 pm. washington dc now, where president trump is promising the show of a lifetime on the national mall this fourth of july. but his salute to america celebration is also drawing some criticism. catherine johnson reports. >> reporter: members of the military are getting the tanks ready for the presidents fourth of july salute to america on the national mall the city. the president urged people to get there early for what he called in a tweet this morning, one of the biggest celebrations in the history of our country. besides the tanks, the celebration will feature troops and military flyovers. as well as a speech by the president in front of the lincoln memorial. neither the pentagon or the white house has said how much the festivities will cost. the flyovers alone cost

we continue to follow breaking news. southern california hit today by a 6.4 magnitude quake, striking near the town of ridgecrest in kern county. about 150 miles northeast of los angeles. have been dozens of aftershocks. officials say emergency crews are responding to at least 24 medical and fire incidents. san bernardino county fire department is reporting some damage to roads and buildings. me me time, los angeles international airport says no damage was done and operations are running normally. this is live coverage from our sister station in los angeles. let's listen in. of course, none, 1. any calls for service as far as injuries and medical incidents we are able to respond and handle that stuff as well. dictate any major dictate next to your home or structures, we

take a chance to take care of what is most certainly important for our viewers, taking care of them right there and making sure they are safe first as a priority. again, folks, you are looking at video coming into a social media. folks who have been taking pictures and grabbing video after this 6.4 magnitude earthquake has struck this area. we also have some video that is coming in from our las vegas. this is from las vegas. the venetian. look at the chandeliers. to shaking there. unbelievable. that far away. >> so, when we talk about dgecr with the area, this is about 125 miles south southwest of the los angeles area. you can imagine, dimarco, we felt it here, classified as a strong is going. 6.4. imagine what it felt like 125 miles from here. at the epicenter. so, that's what those people in that small community are experiencing right now. about 27,000 people live there. got major freeways going to the area. 395, 14. as you heard jeremy from the kern county fire department just say, they are out there

right now. there taking those roads. they have got some damage. so they don't want people out driving right now. you never know when you are going to come up to a rockslide, a crack in the road, something like that. that's what the dealing with. >> you may think your clear, but you're not. we have been told that there are no more than 30, or up to 30 aftershocks being felt now and being recorded here. you talked about it. just the things that you need to do. you need to have your kit ready. you need to put on hard shoes, hard bottom shoes. because clearly, we have seen in situations like this where there is broken glass, or something you can step on. a lot of people want to immediately go outside and start taking pictures or walking around in their home. that is not a good thing to do. ridgecrest, where the epicenter of this earthquake took lace, we spoke to some people who are saying that they have homes that have sustained damage. a large amount of damage. we have had also - >> we are listening to live coverage from our sister station in los angeles. they are talking about the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that has hit in ridgecrest. it is close to las vegas.

kind of in between las vegas and los angeles. so, los angeles felt extreme shaking, and so did las vegas. it is amazing to watch this video and see how much shaking was involved. we have seen chandeliers kind of swaying and also, video of people's swimming pools. it's a reminder here in northern california, to be ready. because we could experience that strong of an earthquake here any time. to have our kids ready, and just be prepared in case of an emergency. >> they are still trying to determine if there were any injuries and the extent of the damage in that area of kern county, which is fairly remote. that is the good news there when it comes to the epicenter. but we will be following this throughout the day on air and online. meantime, my people wondering about that fourth of july weather forecast here in the bay area, mary. >> for firework shows tonight, we are tracking that onshore flow. that stronger seabreeze will mean low clouds and areas of fog will roll in for tonight.

i will first show you a live look at alesrce tower cam are. and you can see, this is looking north at aquatic park. temperatures arepe50s in san fr low 60s for oakland. looking at low 70s for san jose. mid-70s livermore, santa rosa, upper 70s right now for concord. hear a satellite and right abuse. we started off the day along the coast and parts of the bay with low clouds and areas of fog. it is all because of that stronger seabreeze. that marine layer is thicker for today, all because of this area of low pressure that is closer to us today. what that, we are going to see the low clouds and areas of fog rolling in earlier tonight. okay this is on future cast as we go through the afternoon, enjoy the sunshine with clouds just at the coast. and then as we had to tonight, the low clouds and areas of fog along the clouds coast and san francisco bay. if you're heading out to fisherman's wharf tonight, do expect some low clouds and patchy fog. so, it could possibly obscure the firework show.

this week's jefferson award winner has made it his mission to help former inmates reenter society. >> alan martin has more on that. >> reporter: joe calderon leads the discussion at the here reentry navigator network. the recently released inmates, or lifers, ethical themselves. they meet monthly at the mission street parole office in san francisco. the network provides services and peer support to help each other reenter society and stay out of jail and prison. >> you keeps me humble. keeps me grateful. it puts me at a place where i

can actually thrive. >> reporter: every person here has spent decades behind bars. for crimes ranging from aggravated robbery, to murder. >> you from the board of parole hearing that more long-term -- getting out of prison. the want to have a support system available for them. >> reporter: the peer reentry navigator network or prn and is the passion of martin figueroa, or fake as he is known. a san francisco-based parole agent supervisor, who admits, even he had doubts about whether or not it would work when he was put in charge of rolling it out nine years ago. >> i was one of those guys that never believe in redemption. >> reporter: parolees heather doubts, too. >> the couldn't believe that we were trying to rehabilitate them. really, really help them go back to be successful in the community. >> reporter: but figaro and his team stay true to prn and it's mission, providing valuable life skills like money management, job placement and addiction recovery support. they have sir 700 parolees and an amazing 95% have stayed out of jail. >>
