well into the 90s. some triple digits showing up across the region as well. not just the heat, but so much humidity. a lot of dew points up in the 70s. when you combine that, lots of triple digits out there on friday. again on saturday. then as we head into sunday at the end of the weekend, final day of our heat waves, most extreme heat index values will be on the eastern seaboard before relief starts to come in. we're looking at a shifting weather pattern for next week after the three-day heat wave. some extreme readings out there making sure everyone is taking it easy. the dome of heat is going to move out west. already looking at cooler temperatures moving into the eastern united states. and the bigger heat

david martin, cbs news, saudi arabia. this morning president trump isis distancing himself from a racist chant at his campaign rally in north carolina earlier this week. the chant was targeted as minnesota congresswoman ilhan omar. last night the freshman democrat says she's not backing down from his attacks. she says she's going to, quote, continue to be a nightmare to this president. laura, as i understand it, members of president trump's own family were concerned about the chant. >> that's right, anne-marie. cbs learned the president took some heat about the chant from his wife and daughter. congressional republicans also

expressed concern to mike pence. the president is now clearly trying to separate himself from the crowd's words. >> i was not happy with it. >> reporter: president trump says he disagrees with the send her back message supporters chanted at a rally wednesday night when he questioned the loyalty of ilhan omar. >> it was quite a chant. and i felt a little bit badly about it. >> reporter: yesterday mr. trump told reporters he tried to stop it by quickly resuming his speech. but video shows a pause of almost 15 seconds at that point. white house advisers urged the president to soften the attacks on omar and other progressive lawmakers known as the squad. some democrats fear that the war of words could lead to violence. >> it's hard to believe she's

not going to get threats coming out of a rally like that. >> reporter: last night congresswoman omar received a hero's welcome upon her return to minnesota. >> when i said i was the president's nightmare, you're watching it now. his nightmare is seeing a somali immigrant refugee rise to congress. >> reporter: they're discussing ways to providede the women wit extra security. republican congressman tom emmer of the national republican committee said of the send her home chant, there is no place for that kind of talk. >> laura here in new york, thank you. financier jeffrey epstein will remain behind bars as he awaits trial for sex trafficking and conspiracy. he was denied bail yesterday. >> reporter: calling him a threat to the public, judge richard berman ordered jeffrey epstein held in jail until trial. berman said part of the reason

he denied bail was the testimony of two women who said epstein abused them and would be afraid if he were released. one is courtney wild who says epstein abused her in florida when she was 14 years old. >> if you are a victim of jeffrey epstein, you know what i know. he will never stop sexually abusing children until he is in jail. >> reporter: if granted bail, he was a flight risk, they said. an attorney representing several of the accusers said they're pleased epstein will remain behind bars. >> the first reaction was relief and a sense that maybe there was some justice here at last. >> reporter: epstein seen in this 1992 nbc video partying with a young donald trump once called the world's rich and powerful his friends. many including mr. trump have now distanced themselves from the multimillionaire.

maryland roller coaster got a few more thrills than they wanted. yesterday they were on the jokers jinx roller coaster at six flags when it broke down. it was 100 feet off the ground at the top of the dip. rescuers helped riders get down a catwalk and it took about four hours to get everyone off safely. philadelphia cops are fired for their facebook posts and an apparent legal victory for president trump. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstands. "the new york times" reports a court document released yesterday shows that federal prosecutors are unlikely to file additional charges in the stormy daniels hush money investigation. the case centered on payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to buy the silence of two women who claimed they had affairs with donald trump. former trump lawyer michael cohen is serving three years in prison for his involvement. other documents show mr. trump was in close contact with cohen while the payments were being arranged. mr. trump has denied the affairs and any wrong doing.

the hill reports democrats blasted acting homeland security secretary kevin mcaleenan over conditions at migrant border facilities. the house oversight committee is looking into reports that unaccompanied children are being held in crowded and filthy conditions. yesterday committee chairman elijah cummings grilled mcaleenan. >> you feel like you're doing a great job, right? >> we're doing our best. >> what does that mean when a child is sitting in their own feces, can't take a shower? >> there's no one defecating in a mylar blanket. >> a recent report from the department of homeland security inspector general found dangerous overcrowding and prolonged detention of children and adults at several facilities. mcaleenan says the lack of funds from congress has led to the conditions. and the philadelphia inquirer reports 13 city police officers will be fired over

the fire has been knocked down. four residents and three police officers were injured though.eie grounded max jet and a revamped toys r us is opening its doors. marc liverman is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, marc. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. kansas city southern reports quarterly results today. other notable companies reporting include blackrock and american express. stocks closed higher yesterday rallying on technology and bank stocks. the dow was up three points. the s&p 500 added ten points. and the nasdaq added 22 points. boeing is booking a $4.9 billion charge to cover possible compensation to airlines that have canceled flights following the grounding of its 737 max jet. boeing says the max jet fallout will cut more than $5.5 billion from its revenue and pretax earnings in the april through june quarter. the calculations are on

based on assumptions that the faa will return the jet to flight early in the fourth quarter. the 737 max fleet was grounded worldwide in march following two deadly crashes overseas. house democrats approved legislation to raise the federal minimum wage for the first time in a decade to $15 an hour. it's not expected to pass the republican controlled senate. top democrats have made it a priority to raise the hourly minimum wage from the current amount of $7.25. states can raise the minimum wage and many have already done so. and toys r us is making a comeback, but with a new approach. instead of just a large display of toys, the company will have smaller stores that will feature interactive demonstrations, play areas. the first two stores are expected to open in november in houston, texas, and paramus, new jersey, just in time for the holidays. anne-marie? >> marc liverman, thank you so much. >> you bet.
