110 degrees. > even at night temperatures in toy cities may struggle to drop below 80 degrees. dr this means the heat will increase at an even faster pace the following morning. chris van cleave is on new york's rock away beach. how are conditions out there? >> reporter: good morning. it is in the 70s at the beach but we have a breeze off the ocean that's helping for now. it's going to get much hotter as the day goes on. new york city's going to feel like 102 today, 110 this weekend. it's going to be that nasty, swampy, humid, hot weather that normally drives people to places like the beach to cool off. but officials are warning people here even to be careful, to watch the amount of time they spend in the sun and the excessive heat warnings aren't just new york city but ver adelphia, washington, d.c., the weekend there was supposed to be the annual triathlon. well, that has been canceled because of the extreme heat. 3,000 athletes will receive a

full refund. race officials say they were simply unable to provide a safe event experience. in upstate new york the saratoga race track has canceled all of saturday's races because of the heat. something to think about if you're coming to the beach not only do you need to wear sunscreen and watch the amount of time you spend in the sun. you need to watch your feet because the sand is going to get dangerously hot. it heats up a lot faster than the water and can cause serious burns to your feet and even here at the beach it is going to feel like about a hundred degrees. >> chris, thank you. well, this year is expected there one of the warmest years ever recorded. he government agency noaa says the month of june set a global0 chief weather caster lonnie suinn of our new york station wcbs tv is here. is there any relief in sight from the heat wave? >> really not until monday or tuesday. this the culprit, at least one of them is the jet stream. it is so far north.

behind bars this morning after a thiyork judge denied his beingst for bail in his federal ense. the 66-year-old is charged with two counts of sex trafficking ofolving minors. he pled not guilty to the charges. cbs news has learned at least two more women have come forward two mo with allegations against epstein just since yesterday's decision. ola lenghi is at the correctional center in new york where epstein is being held. how did the judge reach this decision? >> reporter: tony, jeffrey epstein sa epstein seemed unfazed yesterday when the judge delivered his decision. it came down to one main factor. elievesge said he believes public. is a danger to the public. th m the jse there were other a feaderations from the judge kncluding a fear that epstein was a flight risk as well as recently discovered evidence in stein'n's new york city ownhouuse. during a search nearly two weeks ago investigators say they found dozens of diamonds in a safe, also $70,000 of cash, a trove of

sexually suggestive pictures. they also found a fake austrian passport with a fake name, au epstein's picture, and saudi epstia as the listed residency en that passport. a judge also said he considered vie testimony of two of cstein's alleged victims. one who called the registered pedophile a scary man to have spoing the streets. we spoke with stan pottinger who represents some of epstein's accused victims. >> the first reaction was relief and a sense that maybe there was some justice here at last. even though this is bail, this is not a trial. but, nevertheless, there were al reaand there were emotional reactions to it that were all very, very positive. >> mola, what are epstein's attorneys saying on his behalf? >> rep >> reporter: you know, epstein's wa attorneys wanted him to wait

>> reporter: good morning. the police commissioner says that more than 300 officers made offensive, potentially offensive facebook postings some of which called for violence against racial or religious minorities. in addition to the officers who were fired, others faced long-term suspensions. >> i continue to be very angered and disappointed by these posts, many of which in my view violate the basic tenets of human decency. >> reporter: the public facebook posts by active police included things like death to islam, one offered a threatening and profane version of the miranda rights. you have the right to "s" the "f" up. anything you say will cause me to "f" -- face punch you. >> a lot of information had to be gone through. this is just the beginning of a longer process. >> can any officer who holds these kinds of views be

effective as an officer in. >> no. you have to care about the people that you are protecting. >> off the streets now! >> reporter: after the posts were published by the "plain view project" last month community leaders demanded action as did rapper and activist meek mill when he spoke with gayle king. >> making racist comments and they're bold about it. they're comfortable doing it. it was never really too many repercussions to it. >> reporter: after reviewing about 3100 offensive or potentially offensive posts, 17 officers were singled out for demonstrating they had little or no regard for their position as police officers. 13 will be suspended with intent to dismiss. the remaining four will face a 30-day suspension. others involved will receive training on social media and professionalism. how does this reflect on philadelphia? >> i think it reflects on the whole country. we have to step up and face the problems we have and try to correct them. >> reporter: no more firings are expected. the police union says they condemn the racist and hateful

parents for f parents are fighting for answers after at least seven children were recently diagnosed with cancer in one california community. we showed you their push to

remove a cell phone tower earlier this year. now they are focusing on a chemical and the drinkingnk can. carter evans visited ripon, california one of dozens of cities across the country dealing with the possibly harmful chemical. >> until we figure out what is happening in this town we won't stop. >> reporter: her son kyle is one of at least seven kids in ripon, california diagnosed with cancer over the last four years. she and another mom first removed a cell phone tower from a local elementary school campus. now they're taking a closer look at a dangerous chemical found in the town's water supply. >> my gut tells me something is here that's causing these issues. >> reporter: this site in ripon was once home to a nestle plant that used tce to decaffeinate coffee until the 1970s. nestle discharged the plant's waste water into the city's sewers. the company says for more than

30 years they have implemented cleanup and water protection measures to ensure levels do not exceed california's standards. tce was recently found in one of five city drinking water wells. >> this is the well where they found the tce. >> yes. >> reporter: the city of ripon says tce levels reached 90% of the epa maximum allowed in drinking water last summer. the well was turned off four months later. the city says the water meets all established drinking water standards. university of california san francisco scientist says, when it comes to chemicals like tce, there are no safe levels of exposure. >> drinking water standards and guidelines we have now are many decades old and they don't account for the latest science that shows that pregnant women and children are more susceptible to tce. >> reporter: millions of pounds of tce are used every year for manufacturing and degreasing. the chemical can migrate from industrial sites into surrounding communities through

tensions that are already high here? >> iran says it didn't happen in the first place. it is indisputable that the military actions, even though they are limited, they antagonized. they make it difficult to find a diplomatic way out. france's president is talking to both sides, trying to cool things off. yesterday when i spoke with iran's foreign minister who you mentioned is in new york right now, he said the two countries were minutes away from war last month when president trump called off that military strike due to the downing of a different drone. an american one. but zarif is making a distinction here. he says iran doesn't want to cause any american casualties. that's an impornction because it stops just short of violating president trump's red line, which is that the loss of a single u.s. life would trigger a military response. >> as for cooling tensions, iran's foreign minister told you that it the u.s. lifts sanctions

iran would agree to restrictions on its nuclear program. that sounds a lot like what was in place prior to this. how exactly is that going to diffuse the situation? >> reporter: what the minister said is that iran would speed things up and put even more restrictions on its existing nuclear program. they would allow for more intrusive inspections, but really the white house is treating this as a non-starter. without the u.s. lifting sanctions, zarif said he sees very little chance of the u.s. countries, of the two countries beginning talks or of president trump and iran's leader meeting, say, in september when the two e t u.n. r administration put more sanctions on iran. national security advisor john bolton raised the bar saying iran has to stop any and though they are permitted t have limited amounts of this

nuclear rule under the 2015 international argument that you mentioned. the u.s. pud out of that deal, but the rest of the world, including russia and china, are still in it and they are trying to find some way to keep iran's program under wraps. all of these skirmishes make it tougher to find a way out. >> the u.s. is reportedly sending 500 more troops to the persian gulf. does that heighten tensions? >> reporter: well, as david martin has been reporting, one of the reasons an one of the justifications saudi arabia wants more of a presence is because they are concerned by these kind of antagonistic actions. what you hear even iran warning of is that this can really quickly escalate both iran's supreme leader and president trump say they do not want war, but you see these skirmishes going right up to the line within just a few yards of u.s. ships, and it really could escalate quickly if there is any

and the big three, ex fax, experian and transunion. they put the information together. sometimes they sell it to different vendors. they are usually putting it towards someone putting together a score like fico. >> that can hurt you if it's low? >> that's basically saying to the world you are credit worthy or not so credit worthy. extend credit or not to this person. >> you want to buy a car, a mortgage or house, that score is critical? >> yeah. not only a car or house. it can be used for insurance purposes. some employers use a skinnied down credit reporting. so it's important to have good credit and make sure there are no errors. >> how often should you check your credit score? >> there is annual credit score.com, and annual is a good time. so you get it free every year. you should check that. you want to clarify any errors, you want to get them off. remember if your score is

artificially low, it's going to cost more to borrow money. and scoring goes from 300 to 850. no one has a 300, by the way. >> are you sure about that? >> we'll talk about you later. i'm pulling yours right now. but it is important because the lower your score, the more it cost to borrow money. >> what do you mean by artificially low? how do you get it back up? >> if you saw an error on a credit report and it said you have an outstanding credit card balance of blank, let's call it 3,000, 4,000, $5,000 doll. you say, wait a second, i paid that off. your score could be down. 670 is this maj gic line. blow that, cost more to borrow. 670 to 740 is good or very good. anthony, you'll be happy to know, i'm sure you score more than 800. 800 is considered excellent. here's the problem if you don't

have good credit. whether you need it it's hard to actually drive that score up. >> what do you do to drive the score up? >> the most important factor is pay your bills on time. that may seem silly, but even if you could just -- if you are carrying credit card debt. if you have it, automate your bill paying so you get that bill paid on time. so there are five different factors. paying your bill on time is the most important. how much credit you have available to you. if you use too much of your available credit, it counts against you. weirdly, in some instances if you close a credit card account, it can sometimes drive down your score. it's very strange. so if you want to get rid that have credit card outstanding, put it in the back of the drawer. don't cancel it. >> how long typically does it take to bring down a score? >> as most things, it goes down faster than it goes up. even people who have declared bankruptcy, it can take a lot less time just to get yourself back on track. pay attention to this.

we paid a visit to the 6-year-old baseball coach known as coach drake. adorable videos show drake livingston giving pep talks to players and arguing with an umpire at kalamazoo michigan growlers games. it's his first year as an assistant pitching coach in this summer college league. he has quickly become a fan favorite. vladimir duthiers is here with drake's story. what did you learn about this pint-sized terror? >> we learned coach drake's dad

good morning. i am michelle griego. a police standoff in milpitas and early when officers arrested a man suspected of assaulting a woman with a knife. police were called to the scene on east calaveras boulevard late last night. they say the suspect fled to his nearby apartment, where he barricaded himself for several hours for the victims injuries are not considered life- threatening. crews in san rafael doused a fire that damaged a parking garage early this morning. it happened that third and be street. there were no reports of any injuries. san jose police are investigating a suspicious death along the guadalupe river trail. officers discovered a woman's body yesterday near west julian and north autumn streets.
