explain who is now tasked with turning the page. and atlanta airport scare. a toddler was swept away by a conveyer belt. how he was able to climb on the conveyer belt undetected and where officials finally found him. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, president trump is declaring victory in the wake of robert mueller's historic congressional testimony. yesterday the former special counsel was grilled for nearly seven hours before two committees. democrats are moving forward with their investigations. laura podesta is here in new york. laura, what exactly are democrats planning to do now? >> good morning, anne-marie. well, the house judiciary committee plans to go to court today to enforce a subpoena of former white house attorney donald mcgahn.

the report said president trump asked mcgahn to fire mueller not once but twice, which is a huge part of the democrats' argument that the president obstructed justice. democrats also say they're still not ready to take impeachment off the table. former special counsel robert mueller was on capitol hill yesterday, summoned there to answer questions about his nearly two-year-long investigation into russian interference in the 2016 election. the 74-year-old spent more than six hours testifying befe house's judiciary and intelligence committees. mueller mostly referred lawmakers to his written report or offered one-word responses. >> and what about total exoneration? did you actually totally exonerate the president? >> no. >> you could charge the president of the united states with obstruction of justice after he left office. >> yes.

>> the president spoke after the probe. >> there was no defense in what robert mueller was trying to defend in all fair necessary to robert mueller. >> democrats say they're determined to find the wrongdoing of the president. >> there's a massive coverup in the obstruction of justice. >> one of mueller's most memorable quotes from his testimony was his warning to lawmakers that his team uncovered substantial evidence of russian interference in u.s. elections. he said they're doing it as we sit here. anne-marie. >> very scary. laura podesta in new york. thank you, laura. breaking this morning, puerto rico governor ricardo rossello is resigning. crowds took to the streets to celebrate after rossello said he will step down. tom hanson reports. >> reporter: for nearly two weeks thousands marched in the streets, calling for him to leave office.

the demonstrations followed the fbi's arrest of two former aides to the governor on fraud charges involving more than $15 million in federal funding. shortly after, hundreds of pages of a group chat involving rossello were leaked. they included profane, homophobic, and sexual comments about political opponents and celebrities. they demanded cellphones of online chats. next in line for governor should have been rossello's secretary of state, but it also forced his resignation. that means secretary of justice wanda vasquez will be the next governor of puerto rico. tom hanson, cbs news, new york. well, rossello's resignation will take effect on august 2nd. demonstrators are also upset with puerto rico's deepening financial crisis. the island has about $70 billion in debt and nearly half the people there live below the poverty line.

so overnight a handful of democratic candidates for president showed their support for the people of puerto rico on twitter. senator elizabeth warren called the protest inspiring and bernie sanders urged rossello to stand against corruption. earlier this week the president called rossello a terrible governor. he has yet to weigh in on the news of the governor's resignation. "ctm's" david begnaud has been following the story from the very beginnining. he'll have a live report from puerto rico and that's coming up on "cbs this morning." north korea fired two short-range missiles overnight. the missiles were launched near an eastern city. at least one was a newly developed design and flew some 430 miles. the other missile traveled about 270 miles. both went down in the sea of japan. this is the first missile test

since president trump met kim jong-un at the demilitarized zone last month. it comes amid exercises between the u.s. and south korea next month. a federal judge blocked a rule that made tens of thousands of americans ineligible for asylum at the u.s./mexico border. the rule would have prevented migrants from seeking asylum in the united states if they pass through another country first. it targets those from central america and other countries who go to mexico who try to enter the u.s. at the southern border. american rapper a$ap rocky has been charged with aggravated assault and will remain in sweden until his trial. he's been detained since july 3rd along with two members of his entourage. they were also charged with assault in a street brawl in stockholm city.

and the federal trade commission reached a historic $5 billion facebook settlement for privacy violations. it's the largest ftc fine by history. under this facebook must take new steps regarding privacy and it must submit a quarterly port compliance with privacy policie. >> facebook's ceo prefers to move fast and break things, and so for this reason it was clear that we needed to erect speed bumps requiring both mr. zuckerberg and facebook to slow down and take care with consumer privacy. >> facebook also announced the settlement of an investigation involving the fcc. the company will pay $100 million for misleading investors on the risks surrounding the misuse of users' data.

britain's new prime minister boris johnson is expected to speak today. he also met with queen elizabeth at buckingham palace. he's the 14th prime minister in the queen's 67-year reign. johnson is promising to create a cabinet with more women and m ministers from ethnic minorities. >> we in this government will work flat out to give this country the leadership it deserves. >> if johnson decides to live at downing street with his girlfriend, they will be the first unmarried couple to ever live in the prime minister's residence. so coming up on the "morning news" now, a jogger tries to take down a man who exposed himself while she was on a run. why she says he was able to get away. and the fda recalls a certain type of breast implant to ties over a rare form of lymphoma. . but if you saw me before cosentyx...

video shows the moment a toddler was swept away on a moving conveyer belt at hartsfield-jackson international airport. the child's mother told police that it happened when she put the child down to print her boarding pass. you can see the child frantically trying to get off before eventually being pulled off the belt in the tsa bag room. he was taken to the hospital with injuries. a specific type of breast implant is being recalled over ties to cancer. and a jogger fights back after a man exposed himself while she was on a run. those are the headlines on the morning newsstand. "the miami herald" says jeffrey epstein was found injured in a federal jail cell with marks on his neck. according to a media source, the billionaire finance sear was found in the fetal position and had multiple wounds on his neck. sources say it may have been a possible suicide attempt. epstein had been arrested

earlier this month on sex trafficking charges. the judge ordered him to remain in a new york city jail until his jail saying he was a danger to young girls. "the new york times" reports breast implants linked to a rare form of cancer have been recalled worldwide. the fda says new data shows a direct link between allergan's implants and a rare form of lymphoma. the agency made the decision after an increasing number of cancer cases and deaths tied to tim plants. 573 cases and 33 deaths from the cancer have been reported worldwide. the fda is not recommending women with the implant have them removed if they don't have symptoms. "usa today" reports dwayne "the rock" johnson has joined hawaiian protesters to fight a massive telescope being built on hawaii's tallest mountain. >> the world is watching, and the world is saying we should take a pause. and this is where care and decency and love and respect for

not only culture but humanity really comes into play. >> the actor who spent part of his childhood in honolulu wants to prevent the construction near the base of mauna kea which he and other islanders consider to be sacred. yesterday he visited the protest site and met with island elders. scientists say the telescope would help make significant discoveries about the universe. and our cbs boston station wbz reports that a jogger took down a man that exposed himself to her saying i'm going to get you, darling. surveillance cameras captured the incident. the mom of two chased after the man, confronted him, and pinned him down, but she says when she screamed for help, no one stopped and he was able to get away. now she has a message for those who just kept on walking. >> people, respond for god's sake. if somebody's saying call the police, everybody's trying to stay away, don't get involved. my day will be destroyed. five minutes later, i could have been raped in a corner. you guys are really too busy for

today include southwest airlines, google's parent company alphabet, amazon, toy maker mattel, and starbucks. stocks closed mixed yesterday. the dow lost 79 points, the s&p 500 gained 14 points ending at an all-time high and the nasdaq added 70 points, also a record. boeing's ceo said the company will consider temporarily suspending production of the 737 max if it doesn't get back in the air this fall. the news comings after the plane manufacturer reported a second quarter loss of nearly $3 billion. that's the worst financial quarter in the company's history. the faa grounded the boeing 737 max in march following two deadly crashes in indonesia and ethiopia. samsung's first foldable smartphone will go on sale in september. the release of the galaxy fold was postponed earlier this year after reviews reported broken screens. samsung says it has fixed the problem.

the phone costs nearly $2,000. e screen size of a tablet, iss perhaps the biggest game-changer for the phone industry in a decade. dunkin' donuts is expanding its breakfast menu with a trendy new item, a meatless sausage sandwich. the chain started selling the plant-based vegan alternative at locations in new york city yesterday. eventually it will be sold nationwide. dunkin' donuts is the latest fast food chain to offer meatless substitutes. burger king and little caesars have already added plant-based foods to their menus. >> and we're getting a first look at the medals for the 2020 olympics. they're made from old cellphones. metals from old mobile phones are being extracted to make the medals that athletes win. they're designed to resemble polished stones and are considered the first sustainable medals featured in an olympic game.

our top story this morning, robert mueller has warned congress that russia still is a great threat to american democracy. during testimony yesterday, the former special counsel said the kind of election interference that took place in 2016 continues today. mueller also rejected president trump's claims of total exoneration. puerto rico governor ricardo rossello says he is resigning. the move follows public outrage over corruption allegations and a leaked exchange on chat with the governor and close advisers.

he's the first to resign. he steps down august 2nd. and there's a dangerous distraction lurking on the dashboards of many cars. seniors struggle with the built-in technology, and that distraction increases the risk for a crash. >> reporter: infotainment makes it easier to find a song or an address. but a new study from aaa finds the screens can be extremely distracting, especially for seniors. aaa and the university of utah tested seniors in several newer cars as they tried to use the technology. >> drivers will shift their attention back and forth from the driving task to the in-vehicle task. if they're taking long glances inside the cab, that's particularly risky. >> reporter: aaa says drivers 55 and older were up to eight seconds slower than millennials
