status private. people came together in gilroy holding candles and each other. jackie ward has a look at the young lives lost. >> reporter: 48 hours after the deadly shooting and people are still trying to navigate through the nightmare. there are two memorials to remember the victims killed. one is a 13-year-old girl. key key's aunt believes she was the first victim. her mom tried to keech her. the girl's stepfather tried and he was shot in the arm. the police forced them to evacuate and leave her behind. >> whether or not we want the guns given to the public. those are conversations we

should have as a community and make sure there's no many victims and children that have to died. >> reporter: she died instant lay. she would have been 13 on saturday. and trevor irby was a victim that recently moved to california. he was at the festival with his fiancee. his entire family is heart broken, trying to find a way to say good-bye, wondering why a senseless act of violence had to take him. >> everybody was his friend. i don't care if he met them two days ago, they became his friend. that's how lovable he was. >> reporter: and the youngest was six-year-old steven romero. he was playing near a kid's bounce house and he was shot. the bullet went through him and into his mother's abdomen. his grandmother was also shot. his uncle said he was a great kid. and investigators are on the scene and the park is closed to

the public as investigators continue to determine the motive. and gilroy police plan to give a news briefing on 4:00. we'll stream that live on kpix.com and have updates on the news at 5:00. and one person is in custody after a shooting and police pursuit today in contra costa county. an officer tried to stop the man for a vehicle code violation early this morning. officers chased the car to rodeo and it crashed in a fence. the driver got out of the car and pulled out a hand gun from his waistband. >> the officer fired one round and the suspect did a throwing motion, threw the object, whatever it m.d that point, fle. . >> and police chased the suspect and arrested him. detectives found the loaded firearm in the backyard of an

residence. closing argumentses in the deadly ghost ship warehouse trial. defense lawyers could provide a possible response to the claim both defendants acted with, quote, criminal negligence. they're charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each person who died. the jury deliberations are next week. and we are learning new details about the murder of an italian police officer allegedly by to bay area teens. police revealing what the high school grads were doing. seth dohne has the story. >> reporter: gabriel chirstian natale-hjorth and elder remain locked inn, facing charges of murder and extortion. new documents provide of

the events. it revealed the teens had been drinking alcohol and they had a totalce of self-control and demonstrated an excessive immaturity. surveillance video shown by the media purports to show the teens who were trying to buy $90 worth of cocaine that turned out to be aspirin and fled with the bag after the drug deal was busted. two plain clothes officers from the force were called. elder admits to stabbing him, claimings it was self-defense. the judge notes no signs of strangulation and the multiple stabs are not a legitimate defense. the teens claimed they did not realize they were fighting with the police. the judge said that was impossible as the police had

shown their badges. he said he did not know about the stabbing. the teens have contradictory ats as to who hid the knife in the room. one of the things we learned was police said the officers were immediately attacked by the two teenagers. and we learned that the officer who was slain did not have his service weapon. police added he would not have had time to use it anyway. cbs news, rome. and the governor is trying to force president trump to release his tax returns. he signed the legislation to require the candidates to release them or the name will not appear on the state's ballot. this applies to candidates for governor. and in a few hours, ten of the 20 democratic presidential candidates will take the stage in detroit for the next round of debates. laura podesta reports the stakes

new details into our newsroom about a gas tanker spill over the weekend. this information is that it is much larger than anticipated. at first, this e reported the tanker was 200 gallons and seeped in a dry creek bead. now they're saying it's 2100 gallons of gasoline that spilled in the dry creek bed. you can see the recovery efforts. crews are on the scene and partially reopened the road. the gas trucking company is on the hook for this very expensive recovery. we have our reporter on the scene. be bringing us the latest tonight at 5:00. back to you.

and this just in. a 16-year-old girl is injured after some swing accident. this happened along the alma bridge at the lexington river a few minutes ago. fire is on the scene trying to rescue her. and a man shot and killed two employees at a walmart store in mississippi today. he also shot a police officer. a bullet proof vest saved the officer's life. the suspect used to work at that walmart and he had just been suspended after pulling a knife on a customer. >> we looked back to the store and saw this guy running into the store. i'm thinking why is he running into store? and just about 30 seconds later, we see two people run out of the store and a flood of people leaving. >> police shot the suspect. but he survived and is now in the hospital. president trump is visiting historic jamestown, virginia, to

commemorate the 400th anniversary of the birth of democracy in america. during his remarks, a democratic virginia state lawmaker interrupted him while holding a sign with the words deport hate, sparking boos and chants from some in the audience. the interruption is after president trump spent weeks deriding a group of democrats who are women of color. some boycotted the event over it. and if you have a capital one credit card or applied for one, your personal information might be compromised. the company says a seattle woman stole the data of 100 million people in the u.s. we look at the breach and how to protect your information. says the breach was discovered on july 19th and the system was immediatelily fixed.

not before a hacker stole personal data of tens of thousands of customers. the fbi says former software engineer paige thompson is responsible for the attack and under arrest, accused of stealing about 140,000 social security numbers in the u.s. and 80,000 linked bank account numbers. >> it's not the first and it won't be the last. today, capital one. last year, marriott. the year before, equifax. >> reporter: it involved 100-00-0000 people in the u.s. the bulk of the data is consumers and small businesses who applied for credit cards between 2005 and early 2019. capital one will be notifying the effected individuals. the company believes it is unlikely the information was used for fraud, but it will offer free credit monitoring services to those affected. other steps include checking credit scores annually. placing a credit freeze on your

. the california state university system says it will be investing extra cash as it faces a looming short fall of math and science teachers. an additional $10 million dedicated to teacher training over the next four years. according to a recent study, the system would lack 33,000 math and science teachers in the coming decade unless it takes action. and back to school shopping
