ahead of a busy wildfire season, governor newsome has also announced california will hire early for hundred more firefighters just minutes ago, sheriffs officials announced they arrested a suspect accused in a rash of graffiti and vandalism. three homes on the same block were vandalized this week. the graffiti included a racial slur. some homes also damaged by rocks and bricks. sheriffs officials say the suspect have a personal relationship with one of the victims. >> i cannot speak to the exact details. we know that have had a relationship the past, and they still have an ongoing relationship. the details of the relationship we do not want to disclose at this time because we are still in the middle of the investigation. >> the suspect could face charges of felony vandalism. >> reporter: i'm jackie ward along eastbound interstate 80 where there was a big rig accident earlier. now the scene is all clear. you can still see some remnants left over from the crash. this is video taken just

moments after the crash happened. the big rig that the hb told me was carrying a 73,000 pound load was trying to avoid hitting a car. at one point, only one lane was open because just before 3 the big rig had to swerve around a black toyota camry stopped in the slow lane. the driver successfully avoided hitting the camera but ended up sleeping on its side. the hb tells us the driver of the stopped camry was drug it asleep and arrested for dui. no other cars were involved and nobody was hurt.>> a driver took action and turned to the left and was able to avoid the camry but in the process of making the turn the his weight shifted allowing the big ragu to overturn at it was unrecoverable from that point on. trucks the hp does not know what the big rig was caring they credit the towing company forgetting the scene cleared as quickly as they did. and pinnell, jackie ward, kpix

the number of residential bird building permits in california is actually going down despite the strong demand for housing. that is according to the public policy institute. it is based on numbers between july 2018 and june of this year. statewide comedy number of permits was down 60 percent compared with the previous 12 month period. locally there was a 49 percent drop in san mateo county. 30 percent and alameda county. nine percent santa clara county and down seven percent in contra costa county. >> if you want to sell your home instantly companies are offering cash on the spot. is laura podesta reports that the supposedly stress free option still comes at a cost. >> reporter: recently retired and without linda wanted to sell her home fast. like i needed to downsize. this was great for family gatherings and when we had a lot of people, but then it became just me. >> reporter: the idea of cleaning and fixing up her house, finding a real estate agent awaiting weeks if not months for a buyer was two stressful.
