57 news room at cbs news headquarterers in new york. a clean up is underway this morning after severe weather. in bucks county, pennsylvania nine including several children were hurt after a tree fell on them while they with were under or near a tent. lightening struck the tree, causing it to toppleover. this is one of the many places that saw torrential rain and damaging winds. but michigan talk as look at the damage left behind. >> reporter: outside philadelphia violent storms sunday afternoon caused major damage and injuries at a swim club. >> as they were trying to get away, they were struck by the branchs that fell. >> reporter: lightening came crashing down on a tent injuring nine people. lifeguards at the pool jumped to action, quickly removing the

branchs, pulling everien to safety. the victims were taken to the hospital but expected to be okay. in chicago thunderstorms delayed the start of the air and water show. they decided to wait out the rain. sky did eventually clear and a severe thunderstorm watch has lifted. in ks cansas ks strong winds ca train cars to derail. and in wisconsins dozens of people spent their sunday assessing the damage from sunday's storms. powerful winds down power lines leaving many in the dark. >> i was showering a then t lights flickered andst off.sing root damage. >> i was s came outside when the rain stopped to see what all the damage was.

>> reporter: although widespread across many states, fortunately therer with urno concerns of any deaths. the violent weather isn't the only threat. a heat wave is gripping parts of the south. >> reporter: good morning. forerse woo we're looking at expansive heat across the south and in some cases triple digits. you can see several regions under heat advisories from north texas up through ks ksz and missouri and in the northeast including the metropolitan new york city area where it feels like afternoon temperatures could be between 95 to 100. this is where heat exhaustion and stroke can begin to set in drink plenty of cold water and find the shady spots as often as you can.

as we make our way to monday afternoon, you can see the heat building in the southern plains and also the dallas fort worth area having temperature thins northeast will start very warm in the 70s and then we'll see temperature rise to the mid-90s in places like washington d.c. and new york city. we are expecting the chance of thunderstorms to roll through the midwith west monday and into tuesday. some of those could be on the strong side in tuesday afternoon. but the main story early in the week is going to be the heat. well, president trump is playing down fears of a looming recession after a tumultuous eke on wall street. before boarding air force 1 to return to washington. podesta here in new york. what did the president have to say? >> he said there is nothing to worry about. that american consumers ar loadc and that he expects a booming
