that a holocstsue allowed to stay in his home. we spoke with the family of the center of the eviction debate.a highlighting the housing crisis here in the bay area. they're trying to make sure this man stays in his home. i spoke to the landlord's attorney. they are saying the landlord is not the bad person in this case. time is running out he said his landlord increased his rent by about $700. when he objected the landlord gave him an eviction notice. he speaks limited english. his daughter translates for them. >> this is killing me. i have been living here for 17 years. with my wife and with my son. they're both gone now and this place keeps their memories and

i cannot even imagine leaving t them. >> reporter: he is on a fixed income and has a section 8 voucher. alameda currently doesn't have any laws protecting section 8 tenants. they are working for the senate to change that. many people rallied around the apartment complex to show their support . >> to be forced out of this housing market on this income is a death sentence. it is a homelessness. >> reporter: he left the ukraine in 1941 when he was nine years old. he says the bombed his hometown. the owner says this is a regional issue, given the location, right by the water, the owner wants to bring that went up to market rates . >> they want to make th problem of the landlord. i think this is unfair.
