southern california coast after a fire broke out on a boat, dozens of people are unaccounted for. good afternoon i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. let's get to anne makevec. >> four bodies have been recovered. fire broke out before dawn, many of the passengers did not a chance to get out of that boat. rescuers are scouring the shoreline to find anybody else who might have jumped to escape the fire. >> coast guard teams scrambling to help those teams off the santa bar gray brand century county post. >> conducting shoreline searches. >> 795-foot dive boat named conception went up in flames about 20 yards off santa cruz island at 31:59 this morning, dozens of passengers were sleeping below deck when the fire broke out. family members have been coming to this rescue staging area

road westbound. chp says that the closures could last longer than expected and into the evening. now the overhead power lines were clipped this morning by a crane doing on going work on the bart tracks. we just checked with pg&e and 114 customers are without power right now. no injuries reported. the transit agency is making extensive repairs and upgrades to the tracks. the work continues and requires closing two eastbound lanes of 24 on some weekends until the end of october. bart saying that it still plans on running regular service tomorrow morning. thousands of keiser permanente worker kpix5 emily turner is in oakland do break down their demands, emily. >> reporter: the workers are protesting today, not working on labor day because they are upset with the current status of labor negotiations with keiser permanente, this protest is

maximum sustained winds at 1955 miles an hour. the second strongest storm may not directly hit florida, mandatory evacuation orders will be in effect today. across florida, georgia and south carolina. taking a live look right now in hollywood beach, florida, you can see some of the trees swaying back and to the, it looks calm out there right now. but it's going to get worse later today. mary lee tracking hurricane dorian. that's right, kenny, hurricane dorian is starting to take the west, northwesterly turn. pretty much stalled out over the bahamas right now. this is the radar of dorian, you can see the feeder bands pushing across florida right now. i want to show you the storm reports coming in from the tampa area with gusts unto 48 miles per hour at polk county. a thunderstorm wind gust. all those the feeder bands are producing thunderstorm with heavy downpours and strong

winds. the latest stats is the category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds at 150 miles per hour, west, northwest at 1 miles per hour, incredibly slow storm. as it continues on that progression, moving west, northwest, we are looking at it possibly just parallel to east coast of florida. may not be a direct impact or direct hit making landfall along the florida coast, as it parallels to it, still looking at live threatening storm surge up to 7 feet, strong winds, hurricane force winds, and also looking at incredible amount of rainfall. futurecast wind gusts, hurricane force winds just riding along the east coast of florida and up through georgia and the carolinas. kpix5 reporter hillary lane joins us live from daytona beach, florida, what are the conditions out there right now? >> reporter: mary, it's little

windy, otherwise absolutely beautiful day. the waves are intensifying. not expecting the conditions to pick up here until tomorrow night or wednesday. some people are hunkering down, many have evacuated ahead of the storm. hurricane dorian is slamming the northern bahamas, the powerful storm made landfall as a category 5 hurricane. packing winds of 185 miles an hour. >> we need help everything now. >> storm surges topping 18 feet submerged entire neighborhood. local media reports an 8-year- old boy drowned as his family tried to find shelter. this video comes from inside dorian, which is still expected to turn north and avoid a head- on collision with florida. authorities caution the storm could still impact thousands of people along the entire coast of florida. >> our east coast certainly is within the cone still.

and people need to remain vigilant if you are ordered to evacuate, you need to do that. >> here in daytona beach, a mandatory evacuation order is in effect but not everyone is leaving. anton wallace grew up in ohio. >> i'm very nervous, you know, i have never been through this before, i'm used to the snow now i'm coming down here, have hurricanes. yeah, kind of miss home right now. >> forecasters say it's possible that dorian runs parallel to the atlantic coast for days. but they caution just the slightest shift to the west could mean landfall. and florida's governor has encouraged everyone in mandatory evacuation globes to get out. he went one step further and said anyone involuntary evacuation zones should be. >> thank you so much live in daytona beach florida. 600 flights are canceled because of hurricane dorian.

mostly in florida. some airlines have been letting traveler whose want to get out of the storm's path change their flights without penalty. we'll have continuing coverage of hurricane dorian on air and online on kpix.com. all right. new at noon, oakland police are investigating a deadly overnight shooting. investigators believe a woman was killed by a stray bullet. it happened on east 22nd street near 21stavenue. it's not clear yet what lead up to the shooting and if youave any information you are being urged to call police. in texas, investigators are trying to figure out why a man went on a deadly shooting rampage killing 7 people and injuring 22 others. david begno has where it all ended. >> people took cover saturday afternoon as a gunman went on a shooting spree. trying to pull over seth ader for a routine traffic violation, he opened fired and then he took off.

police say there was a high speed chase. in which ader randomly shot at people including this truck driver. >> just pop pop pop pop. >> at one point the gunman hijacked a u.s. postal service van, killing 29-year-old postal worker. >> she was screaming for help. >> mary's twin sister rosie was op the phone with her during the attack. >> city my best to go help her but i couldn't get there on time. >> did she ever say anything to you after you heard the scream nothing. >> i didn't because she was already dead. >> 15-year-old leila hernandez was killed in the parking lot of a car dealership. >> the violence ended because police officers shot and kill the the gunman stopping him outside of a movie theater in owe guess amount federal agents executed a

search warrant. the cbs station says he was fired from his job at a trucking company hours before the attack. but sources add they do not believe that the firing was motivation for the shooting spree. david begno, odessa. and we just learned moments ago, police say the gunman called police and the f.b.i. shortly before the shooting and after being fired. three police officers and a 17 month old child were also among the injured. congress gets back to work next week in the wake of this latest mass shooting. house democrats working on several bill to be considered including a bill to ban high capacity magazine as well as a bill to support state with red flag laws taking away gun from high risk owners, people convicted of hate crimes from owning guns. while gun control politics have slowed down progress in washington, the public favors new gun legislation. >> fox does a poll and shows

comedy, kevin heart is recovering wahoo is described as major back injuries after a car he was in rolled down an embankment. >> just before 1:00 a.m. sunday morning kevin heart and two others were in his vintage 1970 plymouth barricade a when it veered off the road. >> went off right there, it was kevin heart. >> crash scene photos show the roof of the car completely crushed by the impact. trapping two of the occupants. the car had smashed through these fences on the mountain road following 30 feet into a ditch. crash reports from the california highway patrol indicate heart's friends was driving at the time of the incident, he was turning from a road when he immediately lost control of the vehicle. black and the third passenger rebecca blasterman, heart was able to get out. a member of his security team

took him home. about half a mile away, to get medical attention. firefighters reportedly had to cut the roof of the car to get back. black and heart sustained major back injuries, black was not driving under the influence. heart recently posted a photo of himself with his vintage car on social media, a 40th birthday present to himself. heart is forbe's highest paid stand up comedian. wishing him a quick recovery. let's all spend him positive energy and healing thoughts. and the father of jerod black says black will undergo back surgery. it's still unclear at this point who called for help and why heart went home first. we reached out to heart's representative but have not heard back. new research shows losing a moderate amount of weight could reverse the erect it is of obesity on the

livermore. looking at 63 right now in downtown san francisco, san jose as well as for santa rosa. 24 hour temperature change and we are cooler compared to yesterday at this time. running 7 degrees cooler in navado. 6degrees cooler in mountain view and 2 degrees cooler for san jose as well as for napa when you compare that to yesterday at this time. it's a breezy afternoon looking at sfo, westerly winds at 18, 16 in downtown san francisco. pleasanton 14 miles per hour winds out the west. 12 in vallejo and 13-mile an hour winds in antioch. satellite and radar view with a ridge of high pressure, keeping us on the warm side, above average temperatures even though we are cooler faired to yesterday. we are tracking this low pressure system to our west in the pacific. and as that low pressure system moves closer we are going to see temperatures cooling down as we head through the next several days, let's take you hour by hour on futurecast, you can see the

sunshine through tomorrow morning low clouds, an area of the fog along the coast and parts of the bay. we'll see temps cooler again for tuesday and we'll continue with that cooldown over the next several days. allergy sufferers, pollen report medium high to today. that continues for tuesday, wednesday, thursday. not a lot of relief unfortunately for allergy sufferers. sunset at 7:37 and sunrise at 6:41 for tomorrow morning. daytime highs looking at 93 for a high in concord. upper .90s in oakland. low 90s in san francisco and upper 60s for pacifica. seven day forecast with those temps cooling down. so a couple of degrees for tuesday. even more so wednesday. and then temps back down to where we should be this time of year by the end of the work week and not weekend, we'll be right back.
