griego. kenny has the day off. here are the latest deadlives in southern california. authorities have recovered the bodies of 33 people. one person is still missing. federal investigators are hoping to determine whether passengers were told about escape routes in case of emergency. experts said that they're likely a key issue for investigators. the fire tore through the dive boat near the channel islands on labor day. authorities are working to identify more of the victims, many from the bay area and surrounding regions. kpix 5s emily turner is in fremont. >> reporter: it's a somber start to the school day here in american high school and fremont as the students as well as the faculty, learn thatadly fire now directly affects them. >> one of my favorite teachers. >> reporter: raymond chan taught physics in fremont. his fourth year with the district and he was well-loved for his enthusiasm in the classroom and his commitment to education. >> physics is hard for a lot of

people. i think he tried to make it interesting for everybody. i like teachers that try their best care about their students. >> reporter: he left a job in the tech sector in the classroom. students that liked him said the passion for learning and giving back made him great. a love of math and sciences is something he shared with his daughter ken dra, a marine biologies in ventura and fellow driver. both were on board at the time of the fire and assumed dead. >> i was in the classroom with students when the principal went in to read the statement and let them know. it was utter shock. >> reporter: grief counselors are on campus to support the student body and faculty and staff. they knot the news yesterday afternoon and said they're stig struggling to make sense of it all. >> the emotional impact is huge. it's something you can never totally prepare for. >> even now, i don't know. look how something like that can happen. it's so sudden. >> reporter: the unified school district will keep the grief

counselors and schools on campus as long as everybody here needs them. they want to make sure the student body and the faculty and staff get the support they need. in fremont, emily turner, can pix 5. another victims of the boat fire include two students at pacific collegiate school in santa cruz and the parents of one. a family member confirms that tia saleka was celebrating the 17th birthday aboard the beat pear with her parents. one of the teen's friends from school was also along for the trip. steven and another victim, dan garcia, both worked at apple. the company released this statement saying steve was a 30- year. the sexual assault victim of brock turner. she's revealing her name, face, and voice. anne is here with more. >> reporter: her name is channel miller and her book is called "know my name," gaping anonymous fame after the victim impact statement was read by millions of people before the me, too, movement caught fire. in that statement, she addressed her attacker directly. >> you don't know me, but you have been inside me in newspapers, my name was unconscious, intoxicated woman. >> this is part of a segment to air on "60 minutes" later this month. in 2015, she was the victim of former stanford swimmer brock turner who was convicted of three felony sexual assault charges for preying on miller outside of a frat party before two eyewitnesses stopped him. t inability to control her own narrative in a justice system that she said is brutal and dehumanizing for victims. >> that i am not just a drunk

victim at a frat party found behind a dumpster while you are the all-american swimmer at a top university, innocent until proven guilty with so much at stake. you couldn't give me, you can not give me back the life i had. >> turner served three months of the six-month sentence that includes three years of probation and had to register as a sex offender. the judge in the trial was recalled for that lenient sentence. we're going to hear more from mill or "60 minutes" on kpix 5 on september 22nd and her book will be released september 24th. to the storm watch right now, hurricane dorian is off of florida's east coast and could reach the carolinas later this week. nearly 400,000 residents are under mandatory this afternoon, we're getting new images showing the extent of dorian's destruction across the northern bahamas from the

air and over abaco island. you can see the damage stretches for miles. entire neighborhoods flattened and homes shredded. and some arounds look like lakes. the storm slammed the islands for go days with 30 inches of rain and 37 people were, at least seven people were killed. we begin with nicole killian live in atlanta beach, florida. what are conditions like out there right now. >> reporter: certainly nothing compared to what happened in the bahamas. we're getting rain and it's heavy at times with strong wind gusts. for the most part, these are tropical storm conditions. if you look at the water, we have also seen, of course, the surf picking up and this is around the time of high tide we were talking to a lifeguard out here earlier today who said that is kind of what he would be watching, simply because when matthew came here about three years ago, you know, it

brought the waterway up and into town here. and created a flooding event. now, because they have the sand birms up so far, we haven't seen that and that is something officials will be watching as the afternoon progresses. >> and do you think that people feel they dodged a bullet, considering what happened in the bahamas. >> relatively speaking. yes. again and you look at the images. nothing compared to that, especially what we're seeing here. keep in mind that dorian is to the center, and probably a good 80 to 100 miles offshore. at this point, we're getting the mouther bands of the storm, which is massive as it makes its way up the southeast coast and certainly people breathing a sigh of relief. one city council said if things

are hopeful, they can hopefully open things up and get things back to normal by tomorrow. >> thank you, nicole killian. and meteorologist mary lee has been tracks storm for some time now. >> that's right. heavy rain and strong winds impacting the southeast coast. a weather station in jacksonville reporting a wind gust of 55 miles per hour and due to dorian. this is the radar here and new show you the latest stats. this is a category 2 storm, maximum sustained winds of 10fo miles per hour. it's 115 miles northeast of jacksonville with the movement of the, moving to the north- northwest at 9 miles per hour and there is a projected path of dorian. really watching the carolina coast under a hurricane warning and it could make landfall along the carolina coast as we go through tomorrow and friday. you can see that keep of possibility and the consensus just really chose to the carolina coast. and latest for you, windy, wet conditions along the florida coast, north carolina and south

alive after this crash in alameda county. you can see the van on top of a car upside down. this happened before 5:30 this morning on 880 in fremont. that forced all lanes to shut down for 90 minutes. know chopper 5 caught the massive backup that stretched for miles. eight cars were involved and two people were taken to the hospital. >> this afternoon, novato police need your help identifying a robbery suspect. the victim and her son were walking through the parking lot on redwood boulevard yesterday when a man jumped out from behind a truck right there and snatched her purse. the suspect then ran off. the police say the suspect may have been picked up by an older model burgundy mazda. the vehicle was last seen in the area of first street and grant avenue. and youtube fined for violating children's privacy. coming up, the record settlement the bay area giant is agreeing to 53 up. >> and plus, a wild scene in a

. new at noon, youtube is paying up a record settlement for allegedly violating children's privacy. as for how much, a know whoing $170 million. the google-owned company is accused of illegally selling advertisements aimed at children to bolster the revenue. the settlement calls for youtube to declare where whether the content is targeted at kids. and let's look at the big board. the dow is up about 227 points. >> right now, jury deliberations are underway in the feastship warehouse trial. a new panel resumed the process

yesterday. the deliberates started a month ago. that jury is deciding whether the defendants should be convicted on 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the 2016 fire. >> terrifying new video out of sacramento. two cars collide and slam into a home. this happened early this morning in the oak park nash. some sort of domestic kiss put happened moments before the crash. four people were taken to the hospital and amazingly, all with minor injuries. ofoklahoma fortunately, they suffered scrapes and bruises. the video serves as a reminder to drivers everywhere to slow down. >> in sonoma county, a large illegal cannabis cultivation is out of business. inspectors busting five properties south of santa rosa where more than 63,000 non- permitted plants were growing. some crops were hidden by corn and planted in an endangered
