welcome to kpix 5 news at noon. let's send it out to the demonstration over climate team. >> reporter: you're looking west on market street. and this is what thousands of young people demonstrating look like right now. this is a demonstration about climate change. let's look at the view from above with chopper 5. you can see a massive protest. protest planned in all 50 states. young people are tired of complacency and propaganda. they are taking to the streets to say that climate crisis are real and they will not rest. i spoke to some high school students just a few like we missed school we thought it's important in adults are not taking it

seriously. >> we need to make sacrifices for climate justice. >> we will not have a future if we don't act on this now. i want to have the same opportunities that adults have. i want a job and a family. but with climate change that's not going to happen. >> you can see these pictures are just stunning. a lot of people here including organizers and young people taking time off from school. i'm surprised how many people are here for this demonstration. they are determined to send a message. we are heading down market street to first street. nobody knows where we are headed. the offices of pg&e are around here. sources say they want to send messages to different

corporations. they want them to know that the young people are serious about climate change. >> that is the bay area on the east coast students missed school in state ucalorted kids of all ages held signs and chanted in lower manhattan. saying that it's never too early to have a voice. >> today's climate strike in new york city has three main demands. no fossil fuels. adjust transition to 100% renewable energy and to hold leaders accountable. >> new york city's 1.1 million public students were given permission to skip class. it's been a similar site all

around the world in 150 countries. showing activists in multiple cities taking to the streets. much more on this story coming up on the kpix 5 news at 5 pm and online at kpix.com. seven cisco power is being restored after construction crew hidden underground powerline. let's go live to jackie ward is in the dogpatch neighborhood of san francisco. power has been fully restored in the city of san francisco at one point thousands of people didn't have power for up to four hours. at 8 am this morning construction workers cut a 12,000 v line causing 22,000 customers to lose power.

muni was affected right in the thick of the morning commute. and at the castro station a writer got caught up in the mess on market >> nothing is moving in traffic is backed. it's very frustrating. i have to recalibrate my time and try to shift things around. >> reporter: pg&e said that china hill was affected the most. >> we have an 811 number that customers should call to prevent accidents like this from happening. >> pg&e said that the workers did call a 11 before digging.

the spokesperson for annville builders said that the cruise did not see a designated mark spot from pg&e where they were digging. they are working closely with pg&e and the city to figure out how this happened. reporting live from the dogpatch district. jackie ward, kpix 5. the american airlines mechanic accused to sabotage pleaded not guilty. the suspect said he tampered with the plane in july so that he could get over time prosecutors believe that the six-year-old has ties to terrorism. his attorney is disputing that claim. >> all you heard was one side of events. and as you know there's always three sides to every story. the crowded presidential field of 2020 just got a little smaller. mayor bill diblasio is dropping out. he launched the bid in may. he

we are going live to this huge climate change march going on in san francisco. thousands of people . >> students from the bay area environmental organizations. many people leaving school and you can see a lot of them test. parked outside of the trans bay terminal. others continuing the march. it's a humongous demonstration organized by youth versus apocalypse. they started it house speaker nancy pelosi's office at 10 am and marched straight down to dianne feinstein's office. another headed towards the

5 on sunday, september 22 at 7 pm. walmart saying that they will stop the sale of e- cigarettes. eight people have died. but even before the outbreak e- cigarettes divided the medical committee. the american lung association says that e-cigarettes are not safe. but the american cancer society said that they are significantly less harmful than regular cigarettes. one of the big concerns is over use of vaping showing that 5 million children use e- cigarettes. worldwide dimension dementia study shows some misconceptions. researchers hope that their findings will lead to better treatment. >> reporter: chris maddox was diagnosed with dementia three years ago after multiple strokes.

the 63-year-old from britain said to make matters worse she felt that doctors and nurses ignored her concerns. her experience reflects the findings of a worldwide report that shows a 50% people living with dementia feel neglected by healthcare professionals. >> this is a massive problem. 52 million people living with dementia. >> reporter: researchers surveyed 70,000 people across 155 countries and found that dementia is a normal part of aging. and that 62% of healthcare workers believe it's part of growing old. chris says she's trying to educate others by telling her

and the signs that said free e.t. this is looking north at the golden gate with mostly sunny skies. temperatures are warming up. 78 in livermore, 73 in san francisco, 77 san jose. the 24 hour temperature change, we are warmer than yesterday. over at half moon bay we are at 7 degrees warmer. and 11 degrees warmer in novato. because of this strong ridge building and. today is the start of a warming trend. and as we go through the rest of the afternoon you can see plenty of sunshine , and clear skies. temperatures even warmer for

saturday. still above average. and looking ahead to next week. high pressure moving in a little bit closer with that clockwise flow , those offshore winds will develop. and that means mid to upper 90s with those hot and dry conditions . we will be looking at the increased risk of fire danger. that's a possibility as we had through next week. good news to report? we are not in a drought for the bay area. much of the state is abnormally dry. that is still great news. to have the rain we had earlier. thtexaersakg on the oakland a's. and then the 49ers home opener
