live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. now at noon, fleet week kicks off in san francisco. thousands of visitors expected in the city and emergency teams are working to keep everyone safe. >> but first, a house fire sending up thick smoke in one neighborhood. good afternoon. i'm kenny choi. a huge plume of smoke looking west. this is on vienna street near the excelsior district in san francisco. chopper 5 was above the scene and you can see the charred facade of the building with firefighters surrounding ail that. it is not clear how it started.

one firefighter was reported injured but said to be okay. >> san francisco's fleet week is under way all week long. today emergency responders headed off the festivities. anne has much more. >> reporter: you can see some of the military vehicles here behind me. this is all part of fleet week which did kickoff officially today, but this is not just about the military, this is about being preparerd for the next disaster. >> when something bad happens it bay area, we know that relief will come from the sea. today's kickoff of fleet week 2019 started with a disaster drill of a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hitting the city and the state and local and federal plan to get rid of the rubble left behind. >> a lot of people think that is just junk, that is the least of our problems. >> so through the chord nation

we were in the situation together. >> none of the 200 passengers on board were hurt. >> >> an underground transformer fire around california and larkin streets in san francisco the fire department and pg&e responded and cleared the area. >> they are on the hunt for suspects at a gas station. several people were involved. here was the scene this morning. the victim died soon after he was brought to the hospital. this is san jose's 28th homicide this year. >> pg&e says they could cut off power later this week to prevent the risk of its equipment starting wildfires during hot, windy weather. the shut off could come wednesday through thursday. the plaqueout could include seven bay area counties and the valley and northern and central coast. fire crews have a handle on a fire in american canyon now.

it is 80% contained charring more than 500 acres. the grass fire broke out in the hills west of i-80 yesterday afternoon. they worked overnight to make sure it didn't flare-up again. so far one structure is destroyed. santa clara county workers are standing. they are gathered outside the social services agency building. the protest coalition includes counselors, 911 dispatchers and they are protesting. >> we're fighting for our caseload toss be minimized so that we can provide our clients with benefits in a tamely manner. protesters say they will continue until the county officials agree to move forward with a favorable contract. we have reached out to the county officials for comment but have not heard back yet. a live look at the white house where the trump administration is dismissing

the revelation of a second whistleblower who claims firsthand knowledge about the president's phone call with ukraine. here is more from the impeachment inquiry. >> reporter: a second whistleblower has come forward about president trump's phone call with ukraine's president. unlike the first whistleblower, this one claims to have firsthand knowledge of the call in which president trump asked ukraine's president to investigate biden and hunter. >> they have released information about the call. >> it was a perfect call. there was nothing -- we have handed the call out to people and they say wow, this is incredible. ware proud of that call. >> reporter: they claim they did not withhold aid to ukraine. >> you clearly were upset that somehow there was an implication because it was being frozen because the

in years. they are taking up every hot- button issue out there. abortion, gay rights, and they will jump into it tomorrow with a big case that looks at if federal law protection guys and more. and they will see if states can put more regulations on abortion clinics, whether states can do something to take their guns outside their homes. they will look at president donald trump's efforts to end that obama era program that protects the so-called dreamers, that came to the united states illegally. all these cases. they are probably going to be decide in the middle of this election year, early spring, early simmer. >> and the new supreme court could potentially be more conservative than the last one. with sometimes vote with liberals on gay rights and abortion. president donald trump's tax returns y so be

light onshore flow so that is why temperatures will be cooler for the coast and for parents of the bay as we head through the afternoon. as we go through the day on futurecast and you can see all that sunshine across the region for today, then tomorrow looking at some clouds along the coast and for parts of the bay and temperatures a little cooler for us on tuesday. look ahead to late tuesday night into wednesday and thursday. we're going to see the winds pick up. dry off shore winds. that means an extreme fire danger which is why at least a fire weather watch will be in effect 5:00 a.m. wednesday until 5:00 p.m. on thursday because of the gusts up to 45 and low relative humidity values. the dry off shore winds we're expecting as we head through
