approximate. we are on high fire danger. >> extreme fire danger with the strong, dry gusting offshore winds. if you are waking up this morning you might be wondering it is not that windy this morning. there is winds out of the northwest from downtown san francisco. 16 at sfo and 15 at half-moon bay and 7 miles per hour wind in concord and 13 in fairfield and antioch 14 miles per hour. this is a two-day wind event. the timing of the strongest winds, the peak winds will be late tonight overnight into tomorrow morning. that's when we will see the winds ramp up for us. the thing about this wind event

temperatures will be cooler. if you don't have power at least the temperatures will be oat cooler side with below average temperatures for this time ofexpt for coast and the immediate san francisco bay shoreline p. gianna. >> looking at the roadways, not a lot going on. the freeways are looking good. highway one there was a possible enclosure that may affect some of the tunnels. we are getting words that generators should be in place so there should not be a closure. everything is opened in both direction on highway one through devil's slide. there is a troubled spot on the peninsula. not affecting 101 but as you access south boulevard there is a crash with a box truck and it is closed. and i am keeping a close eye on closures and generators are in

place so the ventilator syst and the lights should be on and we should be okay through 24. lights out pg&e have turned out power to a million customers because the fire danger high. they will be doing it in phases 278,000 county people in the bay may be affected. they started at midnight in napa and so noma county and then phase two will be turned off in san mateo around noon, this is what pg&e is trying to prevent. a wildfire has burned more than a hundred acres at 101 near

camp roberts. progress has been stopped. pg&e crews have stayed there all night. a fire broke out in the wood canyon area. firefighters could see the flames from 101 and have stopped the progress. more people would have power shut off in the most power outage ever. p g and e says it is the strongest offshore wind event. it is working around the clock. >> how confident are you that you will handle this event well? >> we are unwavering in focus and commitment to do that. it could last through thursday afternoon. customers may lose power because of the interconnected

nature of the electrical grid. restoring power could take several days. cal tran officials are trying to avoid a traffic nightmare and a job going on in oakland without electricity the lights won't function in the tunnels and more importantly the tunnels exhaust fans it just won't work. cal tran confronted the problem yesterday and scrambling to set up four back upgenerators. >> they have to work per the fire department so we are saying we are going to come and do. >> we are staffing up for a mee uptake in moambulances to the mix. fire crews have engines and

bulldozers ready to deploy if a wildfire breaks out. in santa fe the fire power outage is expected to affect that area. the staff at the housing facility in allen rock scrambled to save food by renting an outdoor freezer. one of the veterans is concerned about surviving the night because he using a ventilator. >> without it i stop breathing. >> p g and e is trying to avoid another lawsuit. i don't know how else to put it but i don't think this is the way to go. i was just concerned that what will we do with the veterans because these are our guys. >> arthur will r and other veterans left the facility during the outage period. >> with the prospect of

teaching in thdark. thsan jose school district g 19 a handful around the bay canceling clays. u c berkeley has canceled classes for today but keeping the campus open. san jose is monitoring the outages but does not anticipate closing. we have more information on closings at the bottom of the website. contra costa gas stations may not be working. yesterday we saw people stocking up on fuel for their generators. transit could be your best bet. cal providing power. there is no issues anticipated at the airports. they all have backup power sources. so do the bridge toll booths so

expected to participate in it. the trump administration wants nancy pelosi to announce whether she is moving forward and she says that is not necessary and called out the president for stonewalling. >> this is very serious for our country. the president has said article 2 says i can do whatever i want. no, it doesn't, mr. president. yesterday the trump administration blocked testimony from gordon sondland u.s. ambassador to the european union. it was set before he was going to appear before members of congress. they view him as central to the trump ukraine controversy. california is the largest state to ban facial recognition technology in police body camera. governor newsome signed the law to ban the biometric scanners for drug that is suspected to be fentanyl at the san

francisco jail. four deputies had been released. all five inmates are conscious and under observation. 4: 14 this morning. public pressure is mounting for san francisco's largest landlord, vair ra text investment. they are the subject of project reports. rent control tenants are facing multi hundred dollar rent increases to help pay the landlord's mortgage. the board of supervisors is stepping in. they are asking the rent board to put an end to this behavior. >> it is unconscionable. sraeur ra text you need to listen. hundreds of wondering if th will continue to pay the rent hikes. keep sending your ideas to cbs.com and see all of our previous reports on our web

site. it is project home@cbs.com. we are talking high fire danger and the pg&e shut offs. and right now the wind is not that bad. you are waking up this morning and might be wondering what is going on. it is not that windy where i live. we are going to see the winds pick up especially to tonight and tomorrow. that's when we will see the peak wind gusts for the higher elevations. for the hills one thousand feet is where we will see the strongest winds. breezy for all of us but the windiest conditions in the higher elevations. the sales force tower camera looking east and the temperatures in the upper 50s from concord and oakland and 40s for santa rosa. the weather headlines. a two day event. the strongest wind event so far this season and the strongest wind event since the north bay wildfires in october of 2017 two years ago. and that is why we are watching

the situation. now the peak timing of this for those winds late tonight into tomorrow morning. i will show you futurecast on that in just a moment. you may be experiencing a power outage but the temperatures will be cooler so that is good news in all of this with near average daytime highs as we go through the day today. the warning lasting up to five p.m. tomorrow. to the north and east and diablo and santa cruz mountains with the northerly winds up to 15 and gusts up to 45 to 55 miles per hour and that's why we are talking about the extreme fire danger. a wind advisory for the north and east bay hills above 1000

feet and the diablo range could see power outages with these strong winds there. so here is the satellite and radar view. this is all because of the low pressure system that is going to drop into the great basin and that is why the winds will kick up with those offshore wind. we will time it out for futurecast taking you through the day. in the afternoon we will see breezy conditions but it gets going for us for tonight and tomorrow morning. those red and purple color indicating wind gusts 30 to 50 miles per hour. and really you will notice stop thursday in the morning at 9:00 a.m. you can really see fairfield 48 miles per hour wind29 as well a- moon bay and the winds relax for thursday in the afternoon. for today. looking at highs much cooler. 78 in concord and 73 in fremont and 76 in oakland and upper 60s

for san francisco. here is the extended forecast. again, looking at the strongest winds overnight into tomorrow morning. and then we are going to see the winds ease for your thursday afternoon and especially by friday cooling it down as we head to the weekend. gianna. good morning. checking the roadways right now if your commuting out of morin to san francisco. traffic light. ahead we are getting reports that the robin williams tunnel is totally dark right now so be cautious as you work your way out of morin to san francisco. it looks like it is okay at the golden gate bridge with nthe roadway right now and they did just do the lane changes. keeping a close eye on morin, napa and north bay area. we are getting reports of traffic signals out at state route 29 and 221 and we do have power lines on the highway and getting word of a traffic signal out in the napa area as well on service street.

state route 12 at kirkland ranch road. be careful if you do come across a traffic signal treat it as four way stop. a lot of green on the highways so it looks like things are quiet. bay bridge toll plaza. everything is clear out of the east bay to san francisco. again, tolls will be working during the power outage today. live look at the san mateo bridge, so far traffic is light out of hayward to foster city and no delay towards 101. it is clear but we have the troubled spot on the south airport exit as you head near sfo, a box truck is tipped over and dethe adway. if you ashlight isaring t people gear up for the pg&e outages. flashlights and cos in demand. stores are seeing a surge of customers and if you haven't

good wednesday morning. we are watching the winds with this wind event. likely the strongest one this season. not too breezy out they're in some spots and calm conditions looking at west northwest winds at 20 and downtown san francisco, 5 miles per hour winds in oakland. four in ananilr rkelbeu through freeways and the areas where we
