%c1 live from the bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. now at noon, destructive and deadly. a fast-moving wildfire roars through southern california. the evacuations happening right now. i'm kenny choi. michelle has day off. the saddle ridge fire has exploded in size to 4700 acres consuming homes down to help stop the spread. they will be landing very shortly. let's get back on the ground in los angeles. donya. >> reporter: this is what some

of the scenes look like. charred canyons that can show if you look how close the flames have come to homes and officials say this fire danger could last until sunday. >> when driven wildfires are tearing through the foot hills in some areas northwest of downtown los angeles. >> we're at 0% containment. the fire is moving at 800 acres per hour. >> more than 100,000 people are being told to evacuate the area. marcus jones rushed his family to their church. he doesn't know if thigh will have a home to return to. >> what can you do? >> i mean, wait it out. there is no need to be his stair call or wonder what is going to happen. what it -- it is what it it. >> reporter: the saddle ridge fire started thursday night. fire crews worked frantically to keep the frame rest flames more fires.

>> it is crazy to watch. it is moving really fast so we're evacuating. >> reporter: it shut down interstate 5, california's major north-south corridor. it left thousands stranded in their vehicles overnight. >> been here since about 3 in the morning. >> reporter: this is what it looks like in some areas. charred canyons shows how close the flames came to home and they are warning residents the fire danger may not be over until sunday. southeast of los angeles, a wildfire destroyed the mobile home park. a trash truck dumping smoldering garbage on the grass ig nighted that fire. the red cross says out of the four evacuation centers they have opened they are full and opening other toss accommodate the hundreds of thousands of people haevacuated >> have you everybody heard

anything from the ground and the air attack? >> reporter: i have not been able to unfortunately get close to those firefighters as ware kind of stuck in this area here where we are but i have to tell you i have been seeing plenty of fire trucks going bay this area. we still see a lot of those firefighters putting out those hot spots that are still burning in the area we're in right now. >> donya, thank you. dry and windy weather is fueling the flames. it is easy to see in these images, and driving the fire even closer to the homes. meteorologist mari lee is tracking the conditions theft >> reporter: here is the problem. they are santa ana winds, a red flag warning in affect for this area. the current conditions, what firefighters are up against with the saddle ridge fire. and looking at gusts town 35

miles per hour out of the north- northeast, 15 to 25-mile-an- hour sustained winds and 2 to 5% that is how dry it is for this area. and we had gusts in the morning up to 50-mile-an-hour winds so they are really up against some strong santa ana winds right now. as we go through the afternoon north los angeles southern california area, they will start to see the winds ease but still windy this afternoon. we'll talk about our weather here at homecoming up. sounds good. 2/3rds of all customers are getting their power back. here is a look at where things stand right now. all east bay and south bay counties have now restoration rates above 80%. in the north bay where we saw the most outages restoration is slower but each county is above 70%. pg&e will resume at daybreak tomorrow. the utility says remaining

customers will get their power back when it is safe to do so. jackie ward is in lafayette when one school stayed open despite being in the dark. >> at the time of drop off, happy valley elementary did not have power. some parents were relieved while others were annoyed with pg&e. >> please, pg&e,. >> sleep py hollow. that is one little click. that is all we need. >> the patience is gone. >> i don't n't stand why it is taking so long these helicopters to fly the lines and say they are okay and they obviously are okay. >> despite that, school was still open. some worked by flashlight to make sure everything was ready for the first bell. that was feign for these parents relieved their kids would be occupied today. >> i'm glad they are doing things. it is great they are having it. >> they could do it 100 years ago with no power, our kids are

[ crowd noise ] a hectic scene in oakland last night for the second meeting in a row. they stormed the board meeting. they are part of a coalition called oakland not for sale. some members say they are in set over recent string of

teenager on a platform is expected to enter a plea today. the 29-year-old is accused of stabbing the 18-year-old at the station in july of last year. he was initially declared mentally incompetent to stand trial, but the same judge later reversed his decision after a progress report from a doctor. well californians will be soon limited to one gun. he signed several bills at the state capitol aimed at preventing future violence and the new laws will build on investments into community education, diversion programs and outreach to at risk youth. they take affect on january 1st. meantime the feud between california and the administration continues today. this time hundreds of employees are demanding an investigation. in a letter they allege the white house made inappropriate

threats to use e.p.a. authority against the state including threats to withhold federal highway funds and demands to clean up california's homeless problem. the employees say they believe the feud is a form of retaliation possibly from california's lack of support for the president. fleet week is under way in san francisco. the annual parade of ships cruised under the golden gate bridge and the airshows are about to begin later this afternoon. kpix 5 anne has a good seat and in the middle of all the action. >> reporter: yes, kenny, you could not ask for better weather. that is for sure. for fleet week, the 37th annual treat rest threat week here in san francisco. we're waiting right now for the big airshow to begin. let's take a live look from our exclusive sales force camera. we'll get some very lovely views of that airshow just as

soon as it starts within the next several minutes from what we understand. it will last for several hours. several teams including a civilian team, some arrow bat tick shows and the airshow attraction over a million people all around the bay area and the country, so expect a lot of company here if you're led the out to the marina green. let's look at some of the video that camera captured just about 45 minutes ago of the annual parade of ships going under the golden gate bridge. a lot of those boats are available for tours this weekend on the bay. you can climb aboard some cool ships, destroyers and cruisers and get a feel for how our sailors serve in the u.s. navy coast guard and canadian navy as well. the main thing is the blue angels.
