good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. president trump is directing all u.s. troops to withdraw from northern syria as the fighting there gets more chaotic. turkey's military offensive against the kurds started last week, and since then hundreds of isis families and supporters reportedly escaped from a holding camp. in a major shift of alliance, kurdish officials say they will now work with syria against turkey's offensive. marc liverman is here in new york. what's the reaction to the troop withdrawal now? >> reporter: good morning. one of the big concerns now is that the move could raise the possibility of the resurgence of the islamic state or isis, but president trump continues to back his move despite some isis will resurge.

wt on the call to tell us what took place during the call. we have the best evidence that. >> the u.s. ambassador to the european union, gordon sondland, has been subpoenaed to appear to capitol hill against the publishes of the white house. he's supposed to be questioned on thursday about text messages he exchanged related to mr. trump's phone call and the freezing of foreign aid to ukraine. the son of presidential candidate joe biden, hunter biden, says that he will still down from the board of directors of a chinese-backed private equity firm at the end of this month, and he's agreed not to serve on any boards of foreign companies if his father is elected president. it comes after president trump urged both ukraine and china to investigate the period when joe biden was vice president and his son had bu elected president,

his family members would not be allowed of to any business relationships with foreign companies or governments. our latest cbs news battleground tracker poll finds elizabeth warren has extended her lead in the 18 early primary and caucus states. warren has 31% support among democrats. joe biden is in second place with 25%. senator bernie sanders is in third place with 17%. everyone else is in single digits. and when asked how biden was responding to president trump's assertions about him and ukraine, 29% said they were very satisfied. they were only somewt satisfied. people in fort worth, texas, are demanding justice for a black woman shot and killed by a white police officer in her home saturday. a vigil to remember the woman was held in front of that home

last night. jonathan vigliotti looks at the events that led to the shooting. >> reporter: body cam footage released by fort worth police show the officer arriving at the house early saturday morning and looking inside an open front door. he then canvases the property aiming both his flashlight and gun at the windows. when he sees someone standing inside, the officer shouts, then fires his weapon. >> put your hands up! show me your hands! >> reporter: a single gunshot, 28-year-old atatiana jefferson who was taking care of her sick mother's home was pronounced dead at the scene. police were conducting a welfare check, initially called to the lady. i was concerned for her health. >> reporter: when police arrived, james smith says they didn't identify themselves and did not use lights or sirens. >> three or four tactical officers come from around the corner seemed like. go in front of her house, past

the front doors which were open, in less than a minute. >> put your hands up -- >> i heard gunshots. >> reporter: fort worth police released a statement saying the officer used his weapon after perceiving a threat. police say they later found a gun in the home. family attorney lee merritt said the real threat came from police. >> that's murder. >> reporter: and community members are calling for more answers. >> this is one i cannot swallow. >> i feel guilty because had i not called the fort worth police department, my neighbor would still be alive today. >> reporter: fort worth police say the white male officer joined the force last year and is on administrative leave pending an investigation. jonathan vigliotti, cbs news. rescue crews in new orleans continue to search for a worker missing after a hotel under construction collapsed on saturday. video captured the moment a part of the hard rock hotel toppled on to a busy street near the city's historic french quarter.

two people were killed, 30 were hurt. officials declined to say if the missing worker, anthony mcgretta, is still aliv he was one of more than 100 workers at the site when it collapsed. his sister said her brother wasn't supposed to be at work but was called in at the last minute. >> i'm hoping. i don't know what else to do. i feel like i'm losing it. >> the cause of the collapse is under investigation. cooler temperatures and higher humidity levels are helping firefighters in southern california battle two major wildfires. about 100,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes in several los angeles neighborhoods. at least 31 structures were damaged or destroyed. at least three people were killed. yesterday, fire officials said the largest of the wildfires, the sadler ridfire, was 42% oro news now, disturbing video of a fake president trump is played at a pro-trump rally.

"the daily journal" reports a 10-year-old girl was killed falling from an amusement park ride in new jersey. the victim was ejected from the ride called extreme. she was airlifted to a local hospital where she was

here's a look at the forecast in some cities around the country. ♪ on the cbs "money watch," and fans of the video game "fortnite" are scratching their heads. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. data released this morning shows china's trade with the united states fell again amid a trade war between the economic powerhouses. exports dropped nearly 18% in september after a 16% decline in august. meanwhile, on friday, president trump announced a partial truce in the trade war. the administration is suspending a tariff hike on $250 billion worth of chinese goods planned for tomorrow. and china agreed to buy up to $50 billion in american farm

products. that gave wall street a reason to cheer on friday, so the dow rallied 319 points. the s&p 500 rose 32, and the nasdaq jumped 106. mack truck workers in three states are on strike this morning. the uaw says about 3,500 employees at plants in pennsylvania, maryland, and florida began picketing yesterday. the union says the issues include wages, job security, and pension and health benefits. it comes amid a nearly month-long uaw strike against general motors involving more than 46,000 workers. facebook plans to establish a global digital currency dubbed libra are on shaky ground. on friday, visa, mastercard, and ebay pulled out of the project. this after paypal became the first major company to drop out. facebook ceo mark zuckerberg is scheduled to appear before congress this month to talk about plans for libra. backers say it could open online buying to millions of people who

our top stories this morning -- the u.s. is expanding its troop withdrawal from syria. president trump has directed all u.s. forces in northern syria to begin pulling out as safely and quickly as possible. and in a major shift of alliance, kurdish officials say they will now work with syria against turkey's military offensive. and the son of presidential candidate joe biden, hunter biden, says he will step down from the board of directors of a chinese-backed private equity firm at the end of this month. he has also agreed not to serve on any boards of foreign companies if his father is elected president. it comes after both men came under fire from president trump for hunter's alleged business dealings while his father was vice president. aviation regulators are criticizing both boeing and the faa over the grounding of 737 max in a new report. kris van cleave reports.

>> reporter: the new report identified failures by both boeing and the faa, allowing design flaws on the 737 max to go unnoticed. while the max was in development, boeing did not fully explain the anti-stall system known as mcas to the faa and did not sufficiently update safety regulators on changes being made to that system. mcas played a central role in the crashes, pushing the nose down, causing pilots to lose control. the report also found faa staff had only limited experience and knowledge about key technical aspects of the plane. also faulted were assumptions made by the faa and boeing about how pilots would respond to an mcas failure. >> it is hard to see these two accidents happening without mcas. >> i think that's a -- that's a fair point. >> reporter: faa administrator steve dixon spoke to cbs news last month. >> we're looking at the overall certification protocols to see where there may be gaps or where those processes could be
