live, from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. >> breaking news. a shooting at a north bay high school. at one point, several nearby campuses were also locked down. >> this is happening at santa rosa at ridgeway high school, santa rosa high school and junior college were also on lockdown, but that has been lifted. >> jackie ward has the latest. jackie? >> reporter: just about 20 minutes ago, the lockdowns for both of the schools were lifted

following an early morning shooting. you can see the students are outside of ridgeway high school now. the two schools are basically next to each other. police confirm this is not an active shooter situation. police say just before 9:00 this morning, they received calls of shots fired just outside the ridgeway high school campus. they say some sort of fight happened at the intersection of ridgeway and morgan street. that is not on campus. students told police they saw someone enter ridgeway high school campus and out of an abundance of caution, they locked down the school campuses ridgeway and santa rosa. shortly after that, a 17-year- old boy took himself to a trauma center and was treated for a single gunshot wound to his abdomen. he is listed as stable. police are searching for the weapon used in the shooting. >> we have multiple officers doing a systematic search throughout the school campus and have detained a possible suspect involved in the suspect being questioned by officers at this time. >> reporter: the victim is not believed to be a student at

ridgeway high school. parents believe this is a gang related incident, but police have yet to confirm that. when we asked the police captain if it was gang related, he said more information would be provided later. the next media briefing will be in just about an hour at the police station. in the meantime, police recognize this is a stressful situation for parents so they have actually set up a parent's information center at the jockey club. the address there is 1350 bennett valley road in santa rosa. they tell parents please not to come to the schools. instead, go to this parent information center where they have a lieutenant answering questions. jackie ward, kpix5. >> and we will continue to follow this story and have more coming up at 5:00. to the weather, things are getting hot and windy around the bay area and the fire danger sin creasing. >> parts of the north bay, south bay, and east bay are affected. emily turner has a look at a

red flag warning just issued. >> that came down a couple of hours ago. they upgraded it to the red flag warning. what we are looking at now is clear and beautiful, but it is also going to be hot an eventually toward the end of the week or the middle of the week, it will be pretty breezy which is where the problem comes. your current temperatures reaching 80 degrees. you have 68 degrees in san francisco. 77 degrees in concord. those temperatures are going to continue to climb. so, this red flag warning you can see with the direction of the winds offshore flow bringing with it all of that hot dry air that is moving across our area. everywhere in red has that red flag warning so we are talking the north and east bay hills. the santa cruz mountains where we see gusts up to 40 miles an hour. some of the peaks up to 60 miles an hour. that is wednesday into thursday. where we will see that risk. because all of that offshore wind, that is going to bring with it those dry conditions. as well as warmer weather for

all of us. pg&e is considering shutting off power to 200,000 customers across the state due to the fire risk. about 50,000 may be affected in the bay area as well. sonoma county could feel the biggest impact with more than 33,000 customers in the potential blackout zone. to politics one month since house speaker nancy pelosi launched the official impeachment inquiry into president trump, the top u.s. diplomat in ukraine testifies on capitol hill today. nikole killion has the latest. >> reporter: taylor was swarmed by the press as he arrived at capitol hill for closed door testimony. it was taylor who raised red flags about the president's decision to hold up military aid to ukraine. in a text message, he wrote, i think it's crazy to withhold security assistance for help

with a political campaign. >> that is an important statement from a credible personal and we need to understand everything that happened before he sent that text and after. >> reporter: gordon sondland replied i believe you are incorrect about president trump's intentions. no quid pro quos of any kind. cbs news learned sondland testified last week he sent that response only after talking with the president. for his part, president trump has put republicans on notice that he expects them to stand with him during the impeachment process. >> they have to get tougher and fight. because, the democrats are trying to hurt the republican party for the election. >> reporter: he said all republicans must remember what they are witnessing here. a lynching. >> but the president is not comparing what has happened to him with one of our darkest moments in american history. he is just not. what he is explaining clearly is the way he has been treated

by the media since announcing for president. >> reporter: congressman jim kleiburn says the democrats are considering the possibility of a floor vote condemning the president's tweet. a cease fire ends today between turkey and kurdish forces in syria. turkey's pet just met with vladimir putin. >> reporter: the russian president welcomed turkey's president to sochi on tuesday. president erdogan believes with russia's help, he can fully clear out kurdish fighters along the turkey syrian border. they had partnered with u.s. troops to protect the region from isis. but u.s. troops have started pulling out leaving 175,000

resistance against turkey's invasion. a move that could further complicate an already precarious situation. british police are headed to the united states to interview the wife of an american diplomat accused of cause ago deadly car crash and leavcountry. anne sacoolas was allegedly behind the wheel on the wrong side of the road when she crashed into 19-year-old harry gunn who was riding his motorcycle in the english country side. she fled the u.k. under diplatic immunity in a u.s. air force plane. police say she is cooperating but will only speak on american soil. >> lawyers have clearly stated the suspect wants to be personally interviewed by officers from north hamptonship for them to see her. >> we feel it is a huge step in the right direction. very much so. it feels like, we are finally

to boost their daughter's scores and to get one daughter in as a fake tennis recruit. they will be sentenced separately in february and march. let's see how stocks are trading on wall street. the dow is up. just up about 10 points. despite a strong economy and low unemployment, many adult children are leaning on their parents for financial support. what is leading to this trend. >> reporter: jonathan and ben perry were living on their own, but after financial setbacks, the 31 and 28-year-old brothers moved back in with their parents. >> my house burned down at one point. >> life takes whatever turn it wants to. and, it is up to you to how you deal with it and how you perceive it. >> it's a choice we made. we believe in family. >> reporter: the perries are not alone. a survey found 79% of parents financially supported an adult child between the ages of 18 and 34. some have their kids living at

home. others are paying their children's bills. 25% said they would be willing to draw from retirement savings to do it. >> you want to help your kids. not enable them. >> reporter: cbs news business analyst says high student debt and low wages for entry level jobs are big reasons why many young adults are depenning on their parents. >> you say to your kids okay. it's time for you to get back on your feet. we get that. >> so have that tough conversation. >> exactly. we're going to have a hard talk and set boundaries. >> reporter: some of the ground rules include setting a move- out date and having adult children contribute to rent, utilities, and groceries. >> what you want to do as a parent is create this independent adult child. >> reporter: the brothers are contributing at home and helping pay the family bills. they are also watching what they spend. >> i'm saving a lot more money. >> reporter: the plan is to use those savings to move back out on their own again. now to our original series

tells the story that does potentially bring danger down the road. i'll talk about that in a moment. first, let's talk about your current conditions. 77 degrees in concord. already in the 80s in livermore. 82 and 80 in san jose and santa rosa. san francisco, sticking close to 70. but not quite there yet. that will continue to climb thank to this high pressure system. it is now built in. you can already see that offshore flow that it is creating. it is not such a problem yet. because it is not really strong winds but that is going to change over the next several days. in fact, the national weather service has just issued a red flag warning upgraded at just about a couple of hours ago. it includes the upper north and east bay mountains. and the santa cruz mountains. the winds wednesday and thursday will be picking up gusting up to 40 miles an hour at the peak's 60 miles an hour. we have a futurecast of the wind speeds. everything seems calm. but, you could see it start to grow in the evening hours as the winds start to pick up from

the sierra f foothills. we are well into the double digits as far as the wind gusts are concerned. that will still be the case into most of thursday. as for the humidity, take a look at the numbers. the more inland you are, the lower they are. that's where the wind is coming from bringing the hot dry air in our direction. the next several days we will see these numbers that here look pretty good. start to go down. percentages in the teens likely the next several days. the heatup continues into thursday where we will top out at the 90s in those inland areas. and we will start to cool off by the weekend. stick around. we'll be right back after this.
