around the bay area over the pg&e power shut off. some areas getting electricity restored right now, others wondering when they get the lights back on and for how long. good evening, thanks for joining us. >> i michelle griego. of the 1 million customers affected by the outages, about 400,000 are still in the dark this afternoon. things are looking good in the east bay, the south bay and the peninsula. most of the power back on bare. there's a lot of work to be done in the north bay, just 11 % of customers had their power back in sonoma county where the kincade fire is burning. jackie ward tells us more outages could be in store this evening. >> reporter: pockets of these parks have not had power since saturday while others are losing it today. some people i spoke to said this is getting expensive. for carl hamilton, today is his family's fourth day without power. >> it's been hard on us, we are making it through. >> reporter: he is spending

more money than usual just to keep his family fed by going to a lot of fast food restaurants. carl also needs a cpap machine to sleep which means he needs a generator. he spent $1000 on the last one at the store. >> i know out here gassing up now, just to keep the generator going, try not to take anymore losses. >> reporter: while the expenses keep growing, he is also out of a job as long as the working conditions remain hazardous and unhealthy in windsor. >> it really sucks. they should think about people. >> reporter: it is a similar situation for tisha, she has not had power since saturday. >> i lost all my food, i don't have service on my food. my mom is out of state, i cannot even get in contact with her. it has been really hard. >> reporter: it is not enough to make her consider moving. >> no, absolutely not. i was born and raised in san francisco. i am a california native and

that is what i'm going to continue to be. >> reporter: pg&e expects to get the weather all clear sometime tomorrow, which means hopefully they can start turning the power back on wednesday afternoon. jackie ward with kpix 5. schools affected by this too, it is not under immediate threat from fires. sonoma state university is closed for the remainder of the week in part because of the latest round of power shut off. we are posting updates on school closures on our website, go to kpix.com. the air quality management district usually discourages people from using fireplaces, these circumstances are exceptional. if a fireplace is your only source of heat, go ahead and use it. taking a live look outside from the exclusive camera looking north, you can see the smoke over alcatraz. meteorologist, mary lee with more on the winds and red flag warning for the bay area. >> we are watching the winds

pick up this afternoon and they will continue to increase, especially as we head through tonight. right now, some of the strongest wind gusts, hillsboro kills 40 miles an hour wind gusts, pine flat road, elevation of 3300 at 45 mile an hour wind gusts. the oakland hills 41, mount diablo 38 mile an hour wind gusts and clear lake 36. for the kincade fire, firefighters are up against north northeasterly when's at 28 miles an hour, sustained gust up to 45 and relative humidity values down to 20 %. the northbay mountains above 1000 feet under a wind advisory not until 11 am on wednesday, due to gusts up to 65 miles an hour. red flag warning now in effect for the northbay, east bay hills and valley, the coast, santa cruz mountains. gusts up to 65 for the mountains, the valleys up to 35. extreme fire danger, we talk about when we see the peak wind

gusts taking hour by hour on future cast coming up. thank you. kpix 5 is your survival guide for the emergency power shut offs , find the latest timelines and information from pg&e on the blackouts and restoration process and what to do if your home is under the shut off warning, all of that is on kpix.com. a trio of small earthquakes rumbled through the hollister area this morning, the largest one, 3.8 that struck around 8 am this morning, that followed an earlier 3.5 and 3.2. that is the same area where 4.7 magnitude quake struck on october 15. a life picture from copper mountain, you can see the kincade fire burning into lake county this afternoon, look at all that smoke. copper mountain sits at an elevation of 740 feet, that is where the winds are gusting. the blaze spanning 75,000 acres from sonoma county into lake county and 15 % containment.

the fire destroyed 123 buildings including 57 homes and more than 90,000 buildings at risk. thousands remain evacuated in the northbay and kpix 5's anne makovec has the latest. >> reporter: i met one of many red cross shelters where evacuees have been staying, six days after the fire began. >> we had to evacuate saturday morning. >> reporter: glenn lives on a farm in windsor. he got a chance to go back sunday to find it standing but -- >> it looked like a bomb went off. there's a redwood tree down, it looked really bad. >> reporter: the fire burned an area more than twice the size of san francisco and destroyed 124 buildings, half of them homes. some of the 4500 firefighters working this fire got a pep talk this morning at a cal fire briefing. >> the chief out side yesterday turned themselves inside out to

massive flames burning on either side of the road as clouds of smoke filled the air. fire crews from all over the state and out of state have been called in to assist in the firefight. in los angeles, a fire near the getty center is 5 % contained, more than 600 acres have burned there. this fire destroyed eight homes, in some exclusive neighborhoods. several times damage. the getty center itself spared from the flames and remains closed today. governor newsome will survey the damage today. san jose mayor makes a plea to congress for the california clean card emission standards. >> our ability to continue progress critically depends on adoption of technology, particularly in further adoption of zero emission vehicles. sensible environmental regulation helped pry silicon valley breakthroughs in green tag. >> the house oversight hearing examined the health and environmental impacts of president trump's to freeze

dry air, low relative humidity values and gusty offshore winds, extreme fire danger as we head through tonight into tomorrow morning, which is why we have this red flag warning and wind advisory, especially in the northbay mountains where we see the strongest wind gusts. here is the live look with the cam, you can see the smoky skies as we look north, we are also looking at temperatures in the upper 50s to low to mid 60s at this hour. we are continuing to watch the winds increase and dealing with unhealthy air quality. unhealthy air in napa, and sensitive groups for santa rosa, san raphael, san jose, oakland, concord and vacaville. we are dealing with hazy smoky skies, that will likely be the case through thursday until we get onshore flow to kick out the smoke. in the meantime, we are watching those northeasterly winds develop, the offshore flow,

incredibly dry air, you can really see in the northbay mountains, we start to get those winds picking up, right now in fairfield, 21 miles an hour winds out of the north. here is the reason why, we had this low-pressure system across the great basin, that is ushering that ridge of high pressure, offshore winds. timing it out for you as we head through our afternoon, we will see the winds continue to increase and the winds are tonight, purple and red colors indicating winds gusting up to 50 to 65 miles an hour, especially in the mountains and even through the overnight hours, strong gusty winds in higher elevations. as we go through tomorrow and the afternoon, the winds ease up, still looking at very low relative humidity values, that is why we have critical fire
