good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. things will heat up in washington this week where the first public testimony will begin in the impeachment inquiry into president trump. all of the witnesses expected to appear have already testified behind closed doors. meanwhile, the president has a full schedule. marc liverman is in new york where mr. trump will take part in a veterans day parade today. what will his role be today? >> reporter: hey, good morning, anne-marie. well, the president is scheduled to speak right before the parade actually starts. he'll be the first sitting president to attend the event in its 100-year history. all this as the impeachment inquiry heats up. president trump is if new york city for his hometown's veterans day parade. the event kicks off a critical week for the white house. on wednesday, the house will begin public hearings in its ongoing impeachment inquiry into the president. one of the first witnesses scheduled to testify is a member

of the trump administration, william taylor, acting ambassador to ukraine. >> we have enough evidence from the depositions that we've done to warrant bringing this forward. >> reporter: president trump has called on the gop to fight what he's dismissed as a hoax and a witch-hunt. some republicans say they're waiting to see the evidence. >> if it can be demonstrated that the president asked for and had the requisite state of mind, that the president asked for an investigation of a political rival, that's over the line. >> reporter: a book by former u.n. ambassador nikki haley also shines an unwelcome light on the white house. haley claims former secretary of state rex tillerson and former chief of staff john kelly tried to get her to work with them to resist president trump's wishes. haley told "cbs sunday morning" the idea offended her. >> to undermine a president is really a very dangerous thing, and it goes against the constitution, and it goes against what the american people want.

it was offensive. >> reporter: in a statement, kelly told cbs news it was his job to present many sides of policy choices to president trump so he could make an informed decision. and the president will deliver remarks at the new york economic club tomorrow before heading back to d.c. anne-marie? >> all right, marc liverman in new york. thank you so much. and now to the powerful arctic cold front set to grip two-thirds of the country. the cold temperatures could shatter dozens of november records, and the system is expected to bring snow. meteorologist lisa meadows of our minneapolis station wcco has the forecast. millions of people across the u.s. will be impacted by this arctic blast coming in today. for the upper midwest, some locations feeling temperatures normally seen in the middle of january here in november. we continue to see these record-breaking temperatures not

only shift off behind this front out to the east but even all the way down to the gulf states. looking at temperatures dropping all the way close to freezing. then by tomorrow morning, the upper midwest looking at feels-like temperatures down below zero shifting this off to the east, seeing temperatures into the teens for the feels-like temps into wednesday morning. not only that, snow. winter weather alerts from montana going into upper new york. looking at snow starting off today in the midwest, three to six inches of snow possible as we get closer to the chicagoland area. shifting off to the east, upper new york, also looking at the snowfall going into tuesday. definitely looking at a cold, snowy, and winter-like start to the workweek for many. meteorologist lisa meadows, cbs news. arrests have been made in the murder of a college student in atlanta. jordan jones and barrett brantly are charged with killing alexis crawford. crawford was a senior at clark atlanta university. an historically black college.

jones was crawford's roommate and room moat brantly was jones' boyfriend. crawford's body was found in a park last week. authorities say she died of asphyxiation. police said crawford had filed a report last month describing unwanted kissing and touching by brantly. a texas teacher is out on bond this morning after being arrested for assaulting a special-needs student. the violent outburst was captured on cell phone video. meg oliver reports. >> reporter: the video is hard to watch. a substitute teacher repeatedly punching a female high school student, throwing her to the floor, and stomping on her head. consuela juarez is a student at the school. >> it makes me angry, sad for the child. i feel like nobody could step in to help her because they were probably very scared. >> reporter: the teacher,

32-year-old tiffany lankford, was arrested on school grounds and charged with a second-degree felony of aggravated assault. the incident happened at lehman high school in kyle, texas, south of austin. in another video, students say this is how the incident started. the principal released this statement saying, "we took swift action when this incident occurred and will do everything necessary to protect our students." the 16-year-old student was treated and released from the emergency room. her family's attorney released this statement saying, "we are shocked and disgusted after seeing the abuse and excessive force used in this teacher's attempt to discipline a special-needs child." the family's attorney says the teenager suffers from epilepsy. stunned parents are left to wonder why the teacher acted so aggressively and violently toward a child. >> no matter what a kid says to you, i mean, short of them pulling a weapon on you, i mean, i don't see any cause for that sort of reaction. >> reporter: the hayes county independent school district fired lankford after the assault. she had worked in the district

since august of 2019. lankford was released on bond. her next court date is pending. we tried to contact her for comment but were unsuccessful. meg oliver, cbs news, new york. also in texas, hundreds of people gathered to urge the governor to stop next week's scheduled execution of rodney reed. [ chants ] >> that was the scene saturday outside of governor greg abbott's home. demonstrators say new evidence raises serious questions about reed's guilt. the 51-year-old is accused of raping and strangling 19-year-old stacey stites in 1996. celebrities including beyonce, kim kardashian, and oprah winfrey support a delay in reed's november 20th execution. republican senator ted cruz has also weighed in saying the state should not act too quickly. governor abbott has not addressed the case publicly. renewed outrage in hong kong after police shot a protester.

online video shows an officer fighting with a protester, then shooting a masked person in the stomach area. police say the protester is undergoing surgery. the shooting happened as demonstrators were blocking subway lines and roads during the morning commute. hong kong is in the sixth month of protests. demonstrators are calling for democratic reforms. and bolivia's president announced he would resign after the military called on him to step down following weeks of massive protests. evo morales, the leader for 14 years, said he would submit his resignation to help restore stability. he called it a coup. crowds celebrated in the streets after the announcement. it came following weeks of protests after morales claimed victory in last month's disputed presidential election. it's not clear who will replace him. so coming up on the "morning news," two men are killed after their porsche goes airborne in a crash. and submarine mystery. an american vessel that disappeared during world war ii was found. this is the "cbs morning news." s."

most-powerful party. vox has vowed to be much tougher on separatists and migrants. the election was spain's fourth in as many years and the second in less than seven months. the "newark star ledger" reports two men were killed when their porsche boxter went airborne and crashed into the second floor of a commercial building. police in toms river say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed yesterday when it hit the center median, struck an embankment, and went into the air. >> the skid marks are real close together, then over here, they're wider. so it must have on its side, hit the curb, started tumbling and then hit the gully and launched them up into the inside. >> police say the two men inside the car, ages 22 and 23, were dead when emergency responders arrived at the scene. "the san diego union tribune" says the del mar racetrack suffered its first two horse racing deaths this year in a span of 90 minutes. the deaths come amid the debate

about the safety of horse racing in southern california. 37 horses have died at santa anita racetrack since last december. three horses suffered leg injuries in separate races at del mar yesterday. two were euthanized. earlier this year, four horses died at del mar during training. the track says it improved safety procedures including adding more veterinarians during morning training. >> all the protocols that we've implemented are working and are being adopted nationwide. >> in a statement, peta said the latest deaths must be criminally investigated immediately. "usa today" reports cities in california are banning natural gas in homes to save the planet. 13 cities and one county in the state have enacted new zoning codes encouraging or requiring all electric new construction. they are meant to keep builders from running natural gas lines to new homes and apartments. supporters want fewer gas hookups as the nation shifts to carbon-neutral energy sources. cities in massachusetts, oregon,

in its first nine hours. it debuted in 2009 and has grown to be the world's biggest online event. on the cbs "money watch" now, apple card is accused of being sexist, and where veterans can get free doughnuts and coffee today. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. well, the bond market will be closed today for veterans day, but the stock market is open for business. stocks closed higher on wall street friday. the dow gained six points, the s&p 500 added seven, and the nasdaq rallied 40 points. chairman and ceo of kaiser permanente has died. bernard tyson was the first african-american ceo at kaiser. he took the position in 2013 after fillig a number of roles over three decades at the company. tyson died in his sleep early sunday. he was 60 years old. the board of directors has named executive vice president gregory adams as interim chairman and ceo.

apple and goldman sachs are in the hot seat amid allegations of gender discrimination involving the apple card. apple co-founder steve wozniak and web developer david hanson say they were allowed credit limits 10 to 20 times higher than those given to their wives even though they had the same or worse financial profile. goldman responded claiming apple cards are evaluated independently using income, credit scores, and personal debt. the financial powerhouse is being investigated over its lending practices. the apple card debuted in august in partnership with goldman sachs. the world war ii action movie "midway" took the top spot at the weekend box office. >> we need to throw a punch so they know what it feels like to be hit. >> reporter: the lionsgate film starring woody harrelson and luke evans finished ahead of

as jonathan vigliotti reports, others have decided to stay and seek justice. some are never coming back. >> reporter: sadness and relief for members of the offshoot community in mexico as a caravan left the cool me to saturday carrying about 100 people fleeing the violence that shattered as well lives. >> not worth living in fear. >> reporter: the exodus came hours after the last victim's funeral was held. this one for christina langford. she was among the three women and six children murdered in last monday's drug cartel ambush. survivors say as langford's suv came under attack, she jumped out and waved her hands to show her family wasn't a threat. >> i know that what they died for will help the country to have more freedom. >> reporter: the community whose origins in this part of mexico date back more than a century
