57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you, i'm geles station kcbs shows us what to expect. >> good morning. we're tracking quite an active weather pattern across the entire country for our thanksgiving week. the first storm we're tracking is this low sitting right over the rockies, dumping between 6 to 12 inches of snow. once everything is said and done it the move to the great plains, upper midwest, and willing end up in the east. the next storm we're eyeing is this low that's sitting over the

pacific. we're going to continue to see rain, wind, and, of course, heavy snowfall for most of the pacific northwest, northern california, and eventually southern california, as well. this storm that we're talking about that's sitting over the rockies currently will continue to the east as we mentioned. once it gets there, we're expecting snow and wind. and of course, wind a big concern for the macy's thanksgiving day parade. if we see wind gusts upwards of 34 miles per hour, the balloons for the parade won't fly. we'll keep our fingers crossed for that. otherwise, thanksgiving day highs looking like this across the country -- 50s for the west, 40s once we head toward portland and the pacific northwest, a little cooler. the east coast in the 50s. the hot spot over this holiday weekend will be the southeast. south florida in the 80s both thursday and friday. expecting a high of 82 degrees for miami. evelyn taft, cbs news. strong winds in southern

california this morning are fueling a massive wildfire. just take a look at these flames in the mountains above santa barbara. the cave fire erupted yesterday afternoon. mandatory evacuations were issued. so far more than 3,000 acres have burned. no word yet on whether any homes were damaged, though. and now to a setback for the trump administration. a federal judge has ruled former white house counsel don mcghan must comply with a house subpoena and testify before congress. the judge rejected white house claims of absolute immunity to block witnesses like mcghan as baseless. laura podesta's here in new york. how could the latest ruling impact the house impeachment investigation. >> reporter: good morning. this involves enforcing mcghan's subpoena for the obstruction of justice investigation. but could it impact the impeachment investigation because house democrats hope that some trump administration members including former national security adviser john bolton may use the ruling to justify cooperating with the

inquiry. a federal judge has ordered former white house counsel don mcghan to testify before congress. the 120-page ruling says a president's aides cannot ignore or defy congressional subpoenas even by order of the president or otherwise. the judge added "the primary takeaway from the past 250 years of recorded american history is that presidents are not kings." the trump administration plans to appeal the decision claiming it contradicts long-standing legal precedent established by administrations of both political parties. >> our subpoenas are not optional. >> reporter: mcghan ignored a up to appear before the house judiciary committee's hearings on the mueller report. >> mcghan said that the president asked him will to do crazy expletive, in other words, crazy stuff -- >> correct. >> reporter: democrats want to question mcghan about possible obstruction of justice.the rg cs

took place yesterday after workers on the sixth floor started pouring concrete. that f flooror felell on too th be workers were treated and released from hospitals. and police in los angeles shot and killed a carjacking suspect who was armed with a foot-long machete. [ sirens ] >> he got a machete. he got a whole knife. >> a witness recorded video of yesterday's incident outside a hollywood chick-fil-a. police say the man robbed an auto parts store before walking to the restaurant's drive-thru and carjacking a customer. the man crashed into two police cars as he tried to drive away. he then ran still armed with the machete. investigators say when he chased an officer with the machete, he was shot. one officer suffered minor injuries. so coming up on the "morning news" now, three men are exonerated 36 years later in the so-called georgetown jacket killing. and a sad update.

"the baltimore sun" reports a judge exonerated three men who spent 36 years in prison for a murder they did not commit. the men were teenagers when they were arrested for the fatal

shooting of a baltimore high school student over a georgetown university basketball jacket in 1983. new evidence pointed to a different gunman. the three men spoke after being set free yesterday. >> i'm looking forward to living the rest of my life. >> it wasn't easy. see us out here, we're smiling. we're happy that we're free. but we've got a lot to fix. >> my journey's just beginning. >> that's right. >> because i got to learn how to live right now. >> the new suspect in the case was shot to death in 2002. "the new york times" reports the u.s. supreme court declined to hear the case of a maryland man whose murder conviction 20 years ago was the basis of the popular podcast serial. he's serving a life sentence. he was convicted for killing a high school classmate he had dated and burying her body in a baltimore park. say ed maintains his innocence.

he said his original lawyer failed to pursue an alibi witness. his current lawyer said that he is exploring other legal options. the "washington post" says the u.s. military dog who helped in the raid that helped kill abu bakr al baghdadi was honored at the white house. conan made a surprise appearance in the rose garden yesterday with president trump. vice president pence and first lady melania trump. he got pats on the head and scratches behind the ear. the pentagon says that conan chased baghdadi into a dead-end tunnel where the isis leader detonated a suicide vest. conan was hurt during that raid. >> i said what chance would a strong man have against conan without the guns? what chance? and i guess the answer pretty much was none. >> clearly conan has made a full recovery and has returned to active duty. still to come, a deadly earthquake overnight in albania. the desperate search for survivors in collapsed buildings after a powerful quake strikes near the capital. buildings

the magnitude 6.4 quake was centered 19 miles northwest of the capital. officials said the worst damage is to buildings that were in the duress avenue, a port town. the quake struck the same area hit by an earthquake two months ago that damaged hundreds of homes. on the cbs "money watch" now, a u.s. trade deal with canada and mexico may be near, and stub hub is being sold in a multibillion-dollar deal. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, many marie. on the economic calendar investors will look at where home prices stand and new home sales data. companies reporting earnings include abercrombie & fitch, burlington, guess, best buy, dick's sporting goods, and the dollar tree. stocks rallied yesterday led by rising optimism about u.s.-china trade talks. the dow soared 190. the s&p added 23, the nasdaq rallied 112.

house speaker nancy pelosi says democrats are within range of reaching a trade deal with canada and mexico. pelosi has insisted on changes to the united states-mexico-canada agreement. that's the white house's replacement for nafta. pelosi has lobbied for improved labor and environmental standards. president trump and republicans have pushed her to draw up a vote to ratify the deal by the end of the year. pelosi said democrats need to see progress, quote, in writing from the trade representative for final review. ebay has entered a definitive agreement to sell stub hub to ticket seller via gogo, rival. they announced the all-cash deal yesterday. it expects to sell hundreds of thousands of tickets each day across more than 70 countries. the sale is scheduled to close in the first quarter of 2020. mcdonald's has agreed to pay $26 million to settle accusations of wage theft.

it follows a lawsuit at corporate run locations in california. the settlement covers an estimated 38,000 individuals. the lawsuit filed nearly seven years ago accuses the fast food chain of not paying minimum and overtime wages and not providing required meal and rest breaks. and people in mississippi can now buy lottery tickets. the lottery had been banned because of strong opposition from politically powerful churches. but the state decided in 2018 to approve a lottery as a way to pay for road maintenance. now scratch-off tickets are available. the mega millions and powerball games will launch at the end of january. anne-marie? >> yeah. they were one of six states that didn't have lottery. i didn't even know that. >> that's right. >> people were driving across the border to buy tickets anyway. now they can come to mississippi. >> that's right. so yeah, the law didn't stop them from finding a way to get those tickets. >> exactly. >> now they don't have to drive across that border anymore. >> right. diane king hall at the new york
