morning." from the broadcast center in new york city, i'm tanya rivero. we are on storm watch. take a look outside now. it's monday, december 2nd, 2019. a monster winter storm slams the northeast with snow, sleet, and ice. we're tracking the power outages and travel disruptions left in its wake. first look, the house intelligence committee plans to publicly release its impeachment report today. republicans have already released their own report. plus, a stunning reversal. a california congressman now plans to plead guilty to charges of misusing campaign donations on things like golf, cocktails, and mistresses.

good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. a slow-moving storm in the northeast is not done yet. the system is expected to bring more snow to the new england area this morning. yesterday more than a foot of snow fell in some places making travel nearly impossible. more than two feet of snow dropped in northern new york. hundreds of flights were grounded in the region. and tens of thousands of people are without power. laura podesta is in new york. the storm's aftermath still being felt. >> reporter: yes, thankfully not here in new york city, but in massachusetts snow is still coming down right now. boston canceled school for today. in some places in that state, the snow is predicted to accumulate at the rate of two inches per hour. throughout the northeast, children enjoyed a winter wonderland yesterday. and while the adults tried to share in their experience --

>> the kids are having a great time, and i love this time of year. >> reporter: they also had to contend with the fallout from mother nature. thousands were without power in northern new jersey. >> cleaning up the driveway, and i've got my cell phone charging in my car since that's the only electricity that i have available right now. >> reporter: in upstate new york, a bus carrying about 30 people collided with a tractor-trailer on interstate 90. new york governor andrew cuomo said there were no life-threatening injuries. state troopers have responded to more than 700 storm-related crashes. >> new yorkers, we're tough, we've seen it all, we can handle it all. >> reporter: hundreds of flights have been delayed at airports throughout the northeast including at boston logan. >> this weather, it's winter, it's something we got to expect. it's something that you got to have patience and hopefully i can get out. >> reporter: massachusetts is being hit with more snow this morning. >> i hate it already. it's just started, so -- >> reporter: boston canceled

school today, and governor charlie baker is asking for help to keep drivers off the road. >> do ask employers to consider allowing folks if they can to work from home if it's appropriate. >> reporter: boston has more than 2,000 snowplows in service today. the national weather service says north of boston could see more than a foot of snow, while the cty will see around six inches. anne-marie? >> laura podesta here in new york. thank you so much. >> thanks. there are new details in the investigation into a deadly plane crash that killed nine members of an idaho family. federal investigators say the pilot was cleared to fly despite poor visibility due to a snowstorm on saturday. the plane was headed to idaho falls when it crashed shortly after takeoff from chamberlain, south dakota. a fire chief who responded was shocked the pilot was allowed to fly. >> conditions at the time, roads were slippery, snowing heavily, very bad conditions. >> the family had been returning

home after an annual hunting trip. three people survived the crash, and a family friend tells cbs news that one of the survivors is out of the hospital. and two others are in stable condition. last night in washington lawmakers got their first look at the impeachment report by the house intelligence committee. in an interview, the chairman of the committee, democrat adam schiff, says the report will be released publicly today. it comes on the eve of the the house judiciary committee's first impeachment hearing into president trump. nancy cordes has the latest. an absolute disgrace. >> reporter: before departing for london and while in the air, president trump railed against the impeachment process which enters a new phase this week. >> look at the words that the ukrainian president, that he just issued, and you know it's a hoax. >> reporter: in a new interview, president zelensky tells "time" magazine that he never discussed a quid pro quo with president trump. but he also criticizes mr.

trump's decision to withhold military aid this summer, at the same time u.s. officials were pressuring ukraine to investigate a democrat, joe biden. "you have to understand we're at war," zelensky said. "if you're our strategic partner, then you can't go blocking anything for us. i think that's just about fairness." >> begin the testimony -- >> reporter: this week, just as it did during the clinton proceedings in 1998, the house judiciary committee will hold a hearing to examine historical precedents for impeaching a president. white house lawyers have been invited to participate in wednesday's hearing, but rejected the offer sunday calling the process a sham. >> come to order -- >> reporter: the house intelligence committee is putting the finishing touches on its findings after interviews and hearings with 17 witnesses. in a preemptive srike, the republicans on that committee released their own report, insisting there is still no direct firsthand evidence that

president trump pressured his ukrainian counterpart. the house judiciary committee has now released the names of the four constitutional law experts who will testify on wednesday. two of them have been through this before. they testified during president clinton's impeachment process 19 years ago. nancy cordes, cbs news, capitol hill. president trump has a full day of meetings in london this morning as part of a two-day nato summit. he'll meet with france's emanuel macron and justin trudeau. he's also scheduled to have tea with prince charles. the summit comes amid tensions over defense spending. president trump has continued to attack nato members for not contributing enough and says the u.s. will reduce its contributions. meanwhile, some nato allies have expressed doubt over the united states' commitment to the alliance. in a busy night of tweets, however, the president's focus largely remained on his impeachment fight.

congressman duncan hunter says that he plans to resign and plead guilty to charges today that he stole more than a quarter million dollars in campaign money. it is a stunning reversal. for over a year, the california republican has claimed to be the victim of a conspiracy. prosecutors had extensive details on how he allegedly used the money for golf, tequila, family trips, and mistresses. hunter's wife was charged but took a deal to testify against him. it's not clear when hunter will step down. he said in a tv interview yesterday that he's prepared to go to jail. he said a trial would be tough on his children. former president jimmy carter is back in the hospital. he was reportedly admitted to the hospital in georgia over the weekend for a urinary tract infection. a spokesperson says that he's now, quote, feeling better and looks forward to returning home soon. last week carter was released from the hospital after surgery to relieve pressure on his brain caused by bleeding from a fall.

their deadlines for holiday shipping, and if you want to get there by the holidays, of course, and mcdonald's is joining the chicken sandwich wars. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. let's start with this -- we get a closer look at the latest auto sales numbers today. meantime notable companies reporting earnings include auto zone, land's end, and calloway golf. stocks kicked off the month lower over pessimism over u.s.-china trade talks. >> the dow slid 268 points, the s&p 500 lost 27, and the nasdaq dropped 97 points. as consumers stacked up virtual shopping carts, cyber monday is poised to set a record. when haul is said and done, sales are expected to top about $9.2 billion when the final numbers are tallied. that's up about 19% from last year, and don't forget today is giving tuesday. people are encouraged to donate to nonprofits and charities. this year more than half a billion dollars is expected to be raised, up 26% from last year.

here's a look at the forecast in some cities around the country. ♪ astronauts have just completed more work on the international space station. this was the first space walk in three weeks for italy's luca parmatano and american andrew morgan. the astronauts must connect four new pumps to the spectrometer. the cosmic ray detector is crippled without proper cooling. it's been hunting for anti-matter and dark matter for more than eight years. a canine preserved in permafrost has been found to be an 18,000 -year-old puppy. it was discovered last year in eastern russia. the canine was found remarkably well preserved with fur, teeth, and even whiskers. more testing will be done to see if it's a wolf, a dog, or

our top stories this morning -- people in the northeast are digging out from a major snowstorm. more than two feet of snow dropped in northern new york. new york governor andrew cuomo declared a state of emergency in seven upstate new york counties. boston public schools will be closed today. and house lawmakers got their first look last night at the impeachment report by the house intelligence committee. in it an interview, the chairman of the committee, democrat adam schiff, says the report will be released to the president today. the trump administration wants permission from the supreme court to restart the federal death penalty. attorney general william barr announced over the summer that
