c1 $%c1 this is kpix5 news. now at noon, and streaming on cbsn bay area. pistol-whipped by an attempted robber and he fights back and the consequences are deadly. i'm anne makovec in for michelle. >> i'm kenny choi. suzy. >> reporter: well kenny and ranas you know it was a harrowing night for the store clerk here. mark has been graciously telling us his story of how this unfolded last night. he was pistol-whipped to the ground as you said inside of the market when lee was closing up last night and somehow able to reach for a gun and fire one shot at that robber and that robber died just outside of the store. this video is difficult to watch, but it really tells the whole story. he was closing up late last

night. you can see him getting pistol whipped to the ground. the robber grabs as much cash as he can from the register. then you see him grabbing a gun to defend himself. he heard a shot and he had an idea there were two people in the store trying to rob him last night. that robber died outside just after he ran out of the store. police are still looking for his accomplice at this point in time. mark is a military veteran. he said this was all instinct that kicked in. take a listen what he said earlier today. >> reporter: i don't know if it was fear add adrenalin kicked in together, but i tried to protect myself a little and he forced me onto the ground and held me down. no, i was more fearful of my co- worker because i didn't know where he was. >> you can see him saying he is

more worried about his co- worker than himself. this happened in bay pointe again at cam's market. mark is okay. he has been here as you saw talking to us throughout the morning. he has 12 staples in his head but lee said he is ready to go back to work whenever his boss said he is okay. they are looking for a second suspect and accomplice in this case. we'll bring more at 5:00 and 6:00. susie steimle kpix 5. >> thanks suzy. the supervisors are deeming on an emergency near highway 12 saying there is a threat to the health and safety to the 210 people staying there. there is a plan to help them, and several indoor and outdoor

see friends and family nis holiday season. thankfully were not seeing the same types of delays as yesterday. yesterday there were more than 400 flights delayed. the threat of more bad weather coming in possibly christmas eve and into christmas day could lead to more flight delays or cancellations for those who frequently travel in and out of sfo, these types of weather delays are nothing new. this morning it is nice and clear so it looks good. we're in add out, prechecked and ready to go. >> were you worried about any weather delays or anything this morning? >> not really. it was too early to be worried about anything. >> they are expecting a record number of travel lers this holiday season so they want you to leave extra time to get through security. right now not too bad in terms of the lines but it has been ebbing and flowing throughout the day.

the best advice, give yourself plenty of extra time and make sure 20 check the delays because there are a number of delays both at san francisco, san jose and oakland international airports. katie nielsen, kpix 5. meanwhile things are back to normal at sacramento international airport after a messy travel weekend there. a car crash contributed to more than 140 flight delays. aaa estimates more than 104 million holiday travelers will drive to their destinations and the day after christmas will bring the worst delays with commutes nearly two times longer than usual. overall a record number of more than 115 million americans are expected to travel this holiday season by car, train or plane. >> at least today bay area weather is cooperating with people's travel plans. skies are clear and the roadways are dry, but there is

abut. meteorologist mary lee is here with the next storm on the way. >> we're in between storm systems for today. hopefully you're enjoying that sunshine because we are looking at some changes that are coming. here is a live look with our cam looking east and you can see the sunshine out there. we are going to see plenty of sun as we head through the rest of the afternoon. cool, below average temperatures running 5 degrees below average today. clouds are back tomorrow ahead of the next weather system. this storm system will bring the rain and could even see heavy downpours. that is tuesday night into wednesday does look wet for our christmas day on wednesday and we'll time it out for you taking you hour by hour. in the meantime, if you're traveling up over the mountain passes, the greater lake tahoe area is under a winter weather advisory until 10:00 tonight. looking at 2 to 6 inches of snow. highest peaks up to 16 inches of snow. that is through 10:00 tonight.

the coast guard crew behind a $100 million cocaine bust is back in the bay area. it returned to port today after 82 days at sea. crews seized nearly 3 tons of drugs over three months along the coast of new mexico and central and south america the it was off-loaded in san diego last week. and a shakeup in the skies. boeing says its ceo is out effective immediately. the announcement follows nearly a year of heavy scrutiny after the crashes of the 737 max jets since grounded. boeing's chairman will take over the top job beginning january 13th. cf0 greg smith will lead in the interrim. taking a look at the stock market right now after live look. the dow is up and has been all day. right now more than 117 points. >> and with just two days left until christmas, food banks are working hard to provide food to

our temperatures after a chilly start, we're looking at in the 40s and in the 50s. 54 for you in concord. oakland at 52. livermore 47. 50 in san francisco. san jose at 51. santa rosa at 52. the low pressure system that brought the cold front and the wet weather from over the weekend will push out of here and high pressure building in for today. with it we're seeing plenty of sunshine but changes ahead as we're tracking our next storm. that is going to roll in for tuesday night into christmas day bringing the return of the rain for us. but taking you hour by hour and you can see all that sunshine as we head through the day, the clouds will string back in for tomorrow. we could see a few isolated showers ahead of the next weather system that rolls in for tuesday night, again, into your wednesday. widespread rain expected on christmas day. could see some heavy downpours as well with that weather system so watching that closely for you as we're looking at our
