live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix5 news. now at noon, a cloudy and wet christmas day. when we'll get a k breastorm. >> good afternoon. i'm anne makovec. >> and i'm kenny choi. michelle has the holiday off. some hail creating slippery conditions on ads ismo e wamae house to house, heavy hail led to an accident along i-10 1 in the tunnel. a lightening strike had this tree splinter leaving homeowners with some christmas cleanup. >> some enjoyed the down turn in weather with their hail. it looked like a white christmas in some spots. >> chilly temperatures brought a light dusting of snow to mount hamilton and that counts as a white christmas. >> the clouds looming over the san francisco bay all day long

have mostly dissipated. mary has more on what to expect the rest of christmas day. >> the worst of it with the heavy rain and the thunderstorms, that has moved out of the bay area. you can see on high def doppler still tracking that off to the south, and to the west of monterrey offshore, several lightning strikes out there so still active weather offshore there. as we look ahead for our weather here in the bay area, we're going to see mostly cloudy skies as well as maybe a few isolated light showers. but for the most part, that widespread rain is over with. here is a live look with our treasure island camera. rainfall so far picking up at mount tam about an inch. almost an inch from mill valley. it happened to rain in oakland as well as san francisco. more than a quarter in berkeley. is is a breezy afternoon for us. 14-mile-an-hour winds in san jose out of the southeast.

alpine med de are ready. santa and his elves showed off some moves after dropping off some presents. skiers seeing snow showers around the sierra today, but not heavy enough for blizzard conditions. people are told to don their holiday best as 46 trails. >> sad news. a tragic chain reaction crash on i-80 westbound in berkeley this morning. a driver lost control, spun out and collided with the ce diy th another driver called 911 and shortly after, a third car collided with the good samaritan and then was hit by a truck. the driver of that third car was killed. this happened just east of gillman street. a six-year-old boy is in critical condition after a christmas eve shooting in vallejo. this happened around 6:30 last night. that is near the salano county courthouse. that boy was outside with his

meal today, so we just felt we wanted to do our part. >> i'm here from sydney, australia this year and i couldn't make it back home so i thought i would do something useful and spend sometime here. >> reporter: they are some of the ones making this day possible. it was all packaged and sealed up before all 4,000 were divvied out this morning. it is a tremendous effort that is helping those who keep to themselves. 0 who may not otherwise get a warm meal or give them a christmas greeting or give them a hug and say hello. for a lot of people the salvation army volunteer is the only person they will see today. >> they were some of those friendly faces tasked with bringing meals to the doorsteps in the tenderloin. he started it with his daughter, and her mother 24 years ago the >> it is great to get them out and let them do something, give

well, today's tip of the day is with cilantro. it is so many different recipes because the flavor that it gives and it enhanceness and creates. it is fresh. it is wonderful. storage is important. besides hispanic dishes and asian dishes, i put them in so many different dishes. when you buy, make sure it is green like this. any yellow whatsoever, it has to have that wonderful aroma and stand like this. cilantro in the market, too long will wilt and a little yellowing loses its properties and flavors so don't compromise. thn you bring them home, put e emrefrigerator right away. open the plastic bag a little bit, but i like to store it's only for about a day, because as long as you have it, the
