def doppler. just a little bit of green scattered there. you can see a few of them across the richmond bridge as well as the bay bridge but those will be clearing up pretty shortly so don't be counting on wet weather today. taking a live look at the north bay it looks clear at least in this area. certainly cooler than yesterday because we don't it wa. t strong cloud cover to in the 30s in con ford, 39 there, 37 in santa rosa and liver more 35. warmer in san francisco, san jose and oakland in the 40s there. temperature change from yesterday take a look at this anywhere from 4 to 14 degrees cooler today than we were yesterday because that cold front has now moved through. so your breakfast forecast by the time the sun comes up it will be nice and sunny or at least clear for most of us and certainly cooler than yesterday in the low 40s for most of us. sunrise at 7:25. your high temperatures today

again cooler. you're only going to be making it to at the most the upper 50s pretty much the mid 50s along the coast but as far as your headlines for today are concerned we are drying out with that cooler start a clear start for the remainder of the day into the work week before we do have some rain chances returning midweek. devon? >> funeral activities under way in iran for general qasem soleimani one of the country's top military officials killed in a u.s. air strike in iraq. this is a look at the precession earlier today. iranian president hassan said yesterday that the u.s. committed a grave mistake in killing soleymani. president trump responded writing that if iran attacks american assets the u.s. has a list of 52 iranian targets that were chosen to match the number of hostages taken in 1979 take over of the u.s. embassy.

streets were blocked off during the march but overall police say it was a very peaceful protest. don lin, kpix5. >> hundreds of protestors also gathered in downtown san jose staging a rally outside of city hall. speakers criticized for the continued involvement in the middle east and recent actions that they believe will lead to more violence. still celebrating after the air strike in los angeles dozens of iranian americans gathered outside of the federal building in west wood praising the attack and cheered the death of iran's top military commander. organizers say some participants lost loved ones in iran who were rounded up and killed because they oppose the regime he worked for. they believe he was behind many of those deaths. . >> president trump for taking this action. >> it's going to be a big in

the regime. this is significant news. . >> other people attending the celebration told us they welcome the drone strike now they don't want the u.s. to go to war with iran. instead they hope soleymani's death will simply destablize what they say is an already weak regime. be sure to stick with kpix as well as cbsn bay area for the latest following the deadly air strike in iran and for more you can head to our website at kpix.com. breaking news out of pennsylvania where a massive traffic accident has killed five people and injured 60 others. the crash happened on the pennsylvania turnpike in mount pleasant not far from pittsburgh. the pittsburgh post gazette says the crash involved two tractor trailers a passenger bus and numerous other cars. the injured had been brought to hospitals the cause still under investigation and authorities say the road conditions may have played a part. a stretch of the turnpike is closed and the shut down is expected to be prolonged. we'll bring you an update on the breaking story

later in the broadcast. . an 89-year-old grandmother who was brutally attacked in san francisco almost a year ago has now died from her injuries. she was found covered in blood in a playground in visitation valley area on january 8 of last year. police say that 18-year-old beat wong and broke into her home near the park. he was arrested a few weeks later and charged with several crimes including attempted murder a charge that could soon be upgraded. the victim's family planned to hold a vigil in her honor wednesday. a man died after being rescued from a silo collapse. it happened just after noon on friday near the d street bridge. by standers said they saw a large metal tower collapse and then heard somebody screaming for help. rescuers scrambled up a 35-foot ladder to find a 30-year-old man trapped under a large conveyor. they managed to lift it up and rush the man to the hospital but he later died from

his injuries. police and osha are now investigating that collapse. a violent confrontation at a gas station in san jose. two police officers shot and wounded a man they say tried to ignite a gas pump. it happened yesterday morning near east ridge shopping mall. police say the suspect was holding a lighter in one hand and a gas pump in another and an employee was able to shut off the fuel valve. then police say the suspect charged the officers with a metal pipe. less than 15 seconds later this frantic call came in. shots fired, shots fired. >> suspect is down. we need all exits and entrances blocked off on equipment beesome and capitol expressway. >> police tried to use non lethal force before ndioting the i one ofthe two officers was treated for minor injuries both are on paid leave. the incident marks the first

officer involved shooting of year. health fibulas say they are determined to cut down on the rat population at a homeless camp in sonoma county. what they plan to do starting tomorrow. and multiple electric scooters stolen in oakland have been found in the central valley. how authorities tracked them down. ♪ [ music ]

months. >> the time being you think the camp is still getting larger? >> it is. every time we see more people coming in here with trucks dumping their stuff in here and just planning a spot where they can stay. >> in sonoma county kpix5. more than a dozen scooters stolen from an oakland business have now been recovered in san joaquin county. they reported the scooters missing on thursday and showed them just outside of stockton where deputies arrested 38-year-old timothy for theft. you see him here. after finding all of the missing scooters inside an rv inside his driveway. . >> the desire to have an electric scooter was that great but it having a gps locator inside of it assisted us in the investigation. >> authorities say all of the scooters which are worth about $1,000 each are damaged or altered in some way.

of a break which is going to be really nice over the next couple of days moving forward. for our future cast you can see moving into the morning by about mid day maybe a few lingering showers in the far north bay but other than that for the vast majority of us it's going to be clear and beautiful all the way through the afternoon into monday your morning commute nice and clear. tuesday starting off really clear as well before clouds return with a chance of a few showers here and there by the evening hours going into those overnight hours but they're not going to be significant storms just maybe a little bit of precipitation here or there. as for your air quality again today all of it is going to be moderate so if you do have rest rye issues keep that in mind. likely may be hazy especially in those afternoon hours. the storm didn't quite clear out as much as we had hoped. however it does look like it's going to be improving in the next couple of days. three things to remember for today it is going to be a cooler cloudy start with a few showers for some

>> the non profit oakland pride has been able to call the basement level its office for four years. next to club bnb and club 21 on broadway and franklin street. the lgbtq nightclubs in the building donated the space saving the organization thousands of dollars in rent each year. >> to lose the space to gent fiction to office spaces when the reality is we have a lot of space like that already in oakland especially shared off the office like that. it's a real tragedy. >> oakland pride chair says they have faced a real estate firm ellis partners and tends to share the property into shared text space more than 23,000 square foot on four levels and open floor plan and numerous amenities in downtown oakland. >> now that oakland is, you know, cool for lack of a better term for everybody else

server and likely were compromised and will be open for their regular hours while the system recovers but some services might not be available. law enforcement though is now tracking or trying to track down the hacker. north star ski resort in lake tahoe is facing a lawsuit it's charging people to park. resort officials made the announcement back in october. now two season pass holders are suing saying they should be exempt on the parking fee because they bought their passes ahead of the policy change. >> their position was that i had consented to whatever they wanted to do and there would be no refunds when that was not what i saned up for. >> the lesson learned if there is one that people shouldn't be able to get away with such a thing. >> now so far we have not received any comment from north star. in parts of florida folks are dealing with the after math of severe storms that pelted the region

yesterday. a lot of damages in central florida where witnesses told the national weather service they saw a tornado touch down. so far that has not officially been confirmed. a little league baseball field and water were damaged as part of a roof of a hall was ripped off. there have been no reports of serious injuries. no reports of serious weather here. we might see a few lingering showers as far as storms are concerned but really not much at all. taking a look at our high def doppler you can only see a few scattered showers out there just a ferp spots of green mostly making their way across the valley and clearing out pretty much going to be the last of it for today. that low pressure system that brought the cold front is now starting to move out and we have this nice clearing pattern behind it for the next day and a half or so. before we do have some changes ahead looking how this is all going to play out we might have a few lingering showers in the far northwest part of

sonoma county today. the rest of us for the most part are going to be nice, clear and sunny all the way into monday. your commute nice and dry monday morning and then by the time tuesday hits that's what we start to see clouds and a few scattered showers returning. mostly in the evening and nighttime hours. this is not going to be significant rainfall either but might be a few sprinkles on your windshield here or there and starting to clear moving into wednesday morning. as far as your air quality is concerned today moderate again in all spots so if you do have rest rye issues something to be aware of if you are going to be doing anything outside though it will be beautiful. air quality is not going to be great. three things to remember cooler cloudy start with showers for some very few of us before everything clears up and a sunny afternoon in search of the work week and chance of ueay in your temperatures pretty much at or just slightly below average for this time of the year. the wimplest we likely see is

60 in n jose, 57 in san mateo and inland areas might get to 61. the rest of you will be in the upper 50s before you get to 60 and then right around the bay you are a mix of the mid to upper 50s and in the far north bay a little bit cooler than that the low 50s there. as for your seven day forecast everything clears up this afternoon before we have sunny beautiful skies on monday clouds and the chance of showers returning tuesday before things are nice bright and beautiful by the end of the week. a new director has been appointed to over see the agency that operates the bay area's ferry system. and he has an ambitious vision to restore the ferries to their former glory. john ramos has the story. >> every day hundreds of thousands of people try to drive into san francisco to work and even though it sits right on the bay there are only 17 ferry boats serving the entire city. if that sounds crazy to you you may be surprised to learn that was no accident.

in the 1920s and 30s a golden gate and bay bridges the government shut down the ferry system so people would have to use and thereby pay for the new bridges. it wasn't until the 1980s that the ferries began making a come back. >> before the bridges were built there were 50 million trips a year on san francisco bay. and now we're back to 3 million. . >> jim wonderman the current ceo has been appointed by governor newsom to head up the water transportation authority that supervises the ferries. the boat will be a key people mover if there was an earthquake that wipes out but one vision goes beyond that. he intends to quadruple the fleet and increase ridership from 7500 passengers a day to almost 40,000 and would like to open ferry terminals in

cities up and down the bay. >> from hercules to martinez to points south of redwood city we have a large working population that commutes north and south. >> and funding is always a challenge while other transit systems have their critics those who use the bay as their highway tend to love it. >> does it seem strange we have so few ferries here in san francisco? >> yes it's actually very strange. it's an easier way to get around and you don't have to worry about crossing the bridge. >> wonderman is determined to restore the ferry system and doesn't intend to wait another generation to do it. >> when we get to 2030 and look out on the bay it's going to be hard not to see a passenger ferry going past. . >> in san francisco, john ramos kpix5. coming up a suspected gun thief is in custody but more than a dozen weapons stolen in stockton are still missing. why this is being called an

. 14 guns stolen from several military families in stockton are still missing this morning and to make matters worse the crime happened on christmas. the man accused of doing it is in custody. spoke to one of the victims who says this was a targeted theft. >> michael speaks with us by phone from washington in the middle of his move to the new base in fort louis just outside of tacoma. just after christmas he got a phone call someone had stolen a truck with all of his valuables inside. . >> and i was thinking what's done is done and nothing i can do now. someone stole it. >> he decided all of this was out of his control. the thief had made away with $100,000 worth of property. >> i was just thinking i had no

evidence. it had to have been some sort of someone who knew about this truck or what we're doing. >> he was right. 36-ar-old michael forward worked for an independent contractor who organized the move for him and two other families and now is facing multiple felonies accused of stealing the truck from a secured lot in stockton. his first court appearance friday. it was during their search of the home officers found about 90% of the stolen cargo load. . >> no worst day than christmas to steal from someone and then you steal from a military family no less. . >> he has two kids and one on the way. he says forward should have known this christmas crime would catch up with him. >> they look for any family. it's just not right. it's not the way to go. . a pearlman reporting. the recovered property is now

north carolina. they'll first head to kuwait where military leaders will then decide where they're needed. an anti war demonstrator staged rallies yesterday in several u.s. cities including san jose and san francisco. they fear the attack might lead to more violence. and now the latest on the breaking news in pennsylvania where a massive traffic accident has killed five people and injured 60 others. the crash happened on the pennsylvania turnpike in mount pleasant near pittsburgh. the post i cannot see yet northbound says the crash involved two tractor trailers a passenger bus and several cars. slick road conditions may have been a factor. as far as the weather is kerped here things are drying out and cooling down a chillier morning by quite a few degrees in most spots. we will be sunny and beautiful for the remainder of the day going into the start of the work week before the chance of rain turns tuesday evening into the overnight hours and then a beautiful sunny skies ahead towards the end. thanks so much for joining us.
