monitor the convicted sex offender. was this done to conceal his identity? >> we believe it is, and we allege that it was. >> reporter: epstein's alleged business ventures included a company called southern trust. he also allegedly had ties to the american yacht harbor. neither company is named as a defendant in the lawsuit. a harbor employee told us this boat with the letters lsj is used t ferry workers and supplies to and from little st. james. according to local media outlet, epstein also donated money to local government officials in the u.s. virgin islands and donated dozens of computers to be given away at schools. was he known on the island as someone who was philanthropic or donated to charitable causes? >> i can't comment fully on that, but definitely i do not think he was regarded as an upstanding member of the community. it was public message to he was a registered sex offender. >> reporter: george, who took office just months before

epstein's death by suicide last year is now suing epstein's estate, alleging he continued his sex trafficking operation here until at least 2018. for one alleged victim we spoke to on the condition of anonymity, the lawsuit is a bit late in the game. >> to me it's sort of last-minute, and there is victims i think from the '80s, the '90s. i think that -- i think a lot of people knew what he was up to. i don't know why nothing was done before. >> reporter: do you think a blind eye was turned to mr. epstein's crimes? >> i cannot comment on that. but what i do know is once we got here, this new administration, we will not turn a blind eye. we will enforce it. >> reporter: well, according to local government officials here, jeffrey epstein made the u.s. virgin island his permanent residency in 2010. when pope benedict resigned his papacy and was replaced by pope francis, benedict became pope emeritus and was supposed

room forehis successor, pope francis to lead. that's why he was cited a as co-author in a new book which addresses the issue of celibacy benedict was seen as putting a very influential papal thumb on the scales as francis weighs a key decision. benedict argued for the necessity of celibacy, arguing serving the lord requires the total gift of a man. francis, who also supports priestly celibacy is contemplating a rule change recommended by bishops allowing the ordination of older married men in remote regions of the amazon where there is a priest shortage. >> of course everybody knew that a retired pope is in the church always is a difficult situation. >> reporter: monsignor carroll castile served seven popes and said on issues these two popes are generally aligned. >> when pope benedict left the papacy, he vowed to be quiet.

here is something you may not want to think about, but if you had one dying wish, what would it be? steve hartman met a man who knew exactly what he wanted. here is this morning's edition of "on the road." >> reporter: 49-year-old john rains is living on borrowed time. he has terminal brain cancer, and doctors told him a year and a half ago that he had about a year to live. what keeps you going? >> blake. he was five months premature when he was born. they didn't know if he was even going to breathe. he has been special his whole life. >> reporter: john's only son blake goes to billings west hse john wanted to make it to may at least. >> so i can see my kid graduate. what parent doesn't wt it?

>> that's a huge milestone in a kid's life. >> reporter: pam rudolph, blake's mom and john's ex-wife says there was no guarantee he would live that long. >> yeah, that's when i realized we have to do something. >> reporter: what pam did was reach out to the principle at bi billings west. she made up an excuse to lure him to the school and into the auditorium. >> he didn't have any idea the band would be playing, and this was really happening just for him and for blake. ♪ >> reporter: it was a graduation of one, staged for this audience of one. >> i started thinking about everything, how much time i had, what i could do. i'm just going to spend as much time with him as i can. >> reporter: blake will still have to finish out the school year, but the milestone has now been marked, the memory sealed. >> when i got my diploma, and i
