live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. an american living in wuhan, china is the first american to die from the coronavirus. organizers of today's chinese new year parade in san francisco are not sure how many spectators will show up your that they are concerned that there is the effect of the coronavirus on the outbreak. it's about six am on a saturday, february 8. >> let's get over right away to darren peck. it is foggy out there driving in from the north bay i was creeping along. >> from the south also. >> you are perfect examples because one came from the north and want to get in from the south. if we just have somebody from the east bay would have it all covered because it is foggy out there also. the one place that is not is our camera here on treasure

island looking back towards the bay bridge. we are not dealing with much fog that when i put the currents up, take a look at the little sign next to the number. livermore 21 degrees, but it's also foggy. and you can see that in the report coming in from the weather station. santa rosa, it's a cold 39 and also foggy. in fact if we look at the visibility map when we come in for a close-up of the south bay, see that patch of great extending all the way up say 101 and working as a way through the east bay and the numbers get downright local in the north bay. where it says one quarter for santa rosa and petaluma that tell you how far down the road where you can see pics or give yourself some extra time for the fog this morning but the headline in the forecast is really tomorrow. when it gets windy. in fact, there is not a wind advisory for just about all of us. i will show you the map coming up. some of us are left out it but most of us to plan ofon a windy sunday and then a noticeable warm-up for the

early part of next week. i will see you with all of that and a few minutes guys. back to you. is the first to bring death of an america american. a six-year-old american citizen has died in wuhan china. the statement says there would be no further comment out of respect for the family's privacy. chinese authorities say the american is one of 722 people ar e inland china whose deaths linumbered nkof cases there is now more than 34,000. meanwhile the outbreak is being handled with extreme caution here in the u.s. and re information from travis air force base where some evacuees had to be hospitalized. >> reporter: five people with symptoms of coronavirus are undergoing testsat loevcaacl uees right here to tr air force base. the five will stay isolated until doctors they do not have the virus.

a cdc dr. on scene saidmsncde f shortness of breath, and coughing. the patients were transported by ambulance to the hospitals and placed in isolation or a room that does not allow their breath or saliva droplets to escape. the cdc wants to make clear these patients are just showing symptoms and have not been officially diagnosed. >> people are screened and referred to healthcare facilities when they have fever or shortness breath. along with ofany cough. the first one is doing quite well and we will have an answer for these last four in the next couple days. >> reporter: right now there are 2:30 evacuees arquforce ba staying in a hotel. federal officials say they confirm 12 cases of the coronavirus nationwide. in san francisco this is a big day for the big lunar new year parade. kpix 5's nielsen spoke to organizers who hope coronavirus fears will not keep people away from the celebration. >> reporter: the director of the chinese new year festival

coming our way. weatherwise. the main points are it will be a little bit cooler than friday was. by the time we get to the afternoon and other than that just is pretty. the main issue is satu rdarist taking a look outside. that is our camera from treasure island looking back towards the bay bridge. at night of cold for some of the inland locations. santa rosa is 39 degrees. 10 degrees warmer than that in l sajon with sesome patchy fog. santa rosa the fog shows up for you at the reporting station and the same thing for livermore and if we look at the map that shows us were some of the trouble spots are look at the east bay. the reporting stations are doing just fine but the dark great splotches on their tell you that there is enough reason to believe you will have patchy fog on the roadway and even though the palo alto station is reporting it was down to when i looked at it before the

newscast began. we certainly are seeing the numbers here in the north bay. a quarter mile visibility for santa rosa and petaluma. those valleys of sonoma county, you get on 101 and you will encounter some patchy fog on your drive. so, that cover saturday morning. ft trexthis morning. but for the rest of saturday, once we get past the late morning, just another pretty day with plenty of sunshine with daytime highs in the low 60s. a lot of these numbers in the mid 60s yesterday so will cool down about 5 degrees from where we were. here's the headline, for this weekend, and it's tomorrow's wind. the national weather service has issued a wind advisory for the bay area but as you take a look at the map on screen, see how there is only blue for some locations on the north bay? mainly the ta up rein the mountains separating napa and sonoma county and the mountains of the cost that anywhere you see light blue that is where the wind advisory flies. anywhere you see areas in white you don't have a wind advisory picks santa rosa, petaluma, you are not included in this. it will get breezy during the

day but not bad enough for an advisory. look at san francisco. and the coast of marin and down the peninsula. you are included in this wind advisory picked gusts near 35g the mi on sunday afternoon but look. it does not include the cities right in along the east bay on the water but if you get over on the other side of the hills, concord, walnut creek, san ramon, dublin, livermore, it includes you so noticeably windier for the far inland locations. as we get into tomorrow afternoon. that is really the headline in the seven-day forecast. it will be the winds. let me show you what's coming our way in the seven-day once we get past the almanac. in the seven-day we have a lot of sunshine and a warm-up. look at the number. by the time we get to early next week we will be in the s. for monday and tuesday. for inland locations. so a lot of sunny and warm coming back our way, guys. back to you. coming up, thousands of san francisco giants fans will converge on oracle park for

live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. for omwelce joining us. let's get right over to darren peck who is tracking the visibility issues we are facing right now and that is pretty much off no matter where you are. >> north bay, southbay, east bay, if not everywhere completely but it is patchy and up you will encounter some on the road. i know you guys did on your dragon and if you're coming in from places like livermore, it's a saturday morning so hopefully you don't have to be anywhere this too pressing but in livermore it's foggy. take a look at the reporting stations. not only is it 41 degrees which is kind of cold but it's enough that the weather station there is registering fog on the automated sensor. same thing with santa rosa. ó 39 degrees in santa rosa. that certainly cold enough to develop widespread fraud. when we look at the visibility map the dark patches of gray on

here, they show you where the problems will be. you have to go by the actual readings for santa rosa and petaluma and napa and that tell us the north bay is foggy. that the first headline today because the next headline. going to be windy tomorrow. and then actually is probably the top issue in this whole forecast for is a wind advisory for much of the bay area. and the worst of it will come through sunday afternoon. we should get to see gusts near 40 miles an hour. i will go into more detail on that in the full forecast. but after that it will be sunny and warm. i have 70 degree days in the seven-day forecast to show you. i will be back with that coming up in a bit. guys, back over to you. the u.s. department of justice has dropped its antitrust probe into a deal between the state of california and several carmakers. last year honda, ford, volkswagen and vw reach an agreement with the state to -- some worried that this could

potentially limit consumer choice and now the department says automakers did not violate any laws. california to move ahead with tighter admission standards. california governor gavin newsom said in a statement that this is a big loss for the president and his weaponization of federal agencies and a victory for anyone who cares about the rule of law and clean air. researchers at san jose state university say they have proof now that climate change education reduces individual carbon emissions. is the first such long-term study tracking all of that. kpix 5's len ramirez has more. >> reporter: the big impact of the study is it puts some numbers behind the professors here at san jose state already suspected, that the more people learn about climate change the more they are willing to change their habits. students at san jose state say they first started learning

about climate change are what was called global warming when they were in middle school. >> starting as a kid i think they talked about it hischooli know i had one year where we went over climate change and the impact on the glow. >> reporter: but a professor at san jose state wanted to find out of education actually changed habits so he tracked 500 students who took the universities mobile climate change course from 2007 to 2012. and found it had a lasting impact on students lives. >> we were able to see a big difference between students who had taken our course and the average californian and the reduction was about three times per year which is a similar reduction to having an electric car or solar panels on your roof. on the results were published in a scientific journal and the research is being peer- reviewed. >> we are sharing with communities the relevant education can have on reducing long-term carbon emissions. to the port professor is providing lesson plans for

caltrain has a plan to help the bay area housing supply . they signed off on a policy to build affordable homes along the tracks. caltrain has two sites that could accommodate housing or the mountain view and redwood city stions. the policy would require 30% of each housing developer to offer below-market rent. neither of the sites has a specific proposal yet but any plan have to be approved by the board. huber is making it easy a feature on friday called make my train. it works like this. you and to the train station destination and the app automatically shows you the train schedule. all you have to do is pick the train you toand the p usesan algorithdeyou there on

i will show you more on that in a second but plan on a windy second half of your weekend. and then unnoticeable warm-up for next week. as far as today's daytime highs on saturday, low 60s for most locations. that's a few degrees cooler than we were yesterday. and this day does not have any other issues in that picture will be sunny and a little cooler than yesterday. we are moving on. here's the issue was sunday. read the headline which says wind advisory. it actually starts tonight at 7:00 pm for the north bay hills and the east bay hills. and goes all the way through monday morning. but as far as the majority of us, it will be sunday in the afternoon when we feel it the most. the areas in blue have the wind advisory so notice it is the mountains of the north bay and the coast, and by coast we are also including the city and county of san francisco. you can see the blue includes the city but it does not include much of the rest of the bay proper. however, it certainly includes the far east bay. concord, walnut creek, san ramon, dublin, livermore, you guys are included in this and

the focus will be sunday afternoon. i will show you the wind teacher cast in a second and you will see why. it includes the santa cruz mountains and the coast but it doesn't necessarily include much of santa clara county and down into the valley. let's see how this will play out. i will play this forward on the wind futurecast and we will get this ahead to tonight. that's is 9:00 this evening. by this point we notice the wind pick up mainly for the mountains. now we will go into sunday afternoon and watch how much more the colors have gotten. that's on sunday and the numbers on your screen that is showing you how high the wind will be gusting. remark there is a 25 mile-per- hour gusts but 30 for concord. 31 in lynn -- and will likely hit close to 40 along the coast. look at the 36 mile-per-hour winds be for half moon bay by late sunday afternoon and evening. that is your take away on the wind. strongest or sunday afternoon. ok, we talked about the fan fest going on for the giants. the wonderful weather will be
