good morning. hundreds of passengers off a san diego, texas. the arrivals come as the number of coronavirus cases on board the ship soared to ed ted to 3g dozens of americans. in china the death toll now stands at more than 1700. we go to washington for more on what's next for the american passengers. >> reporter: they don't get to go home just yet. they face another 14 day

quarantine here in the u.s. and that's because that cruise ship is really just considered a hot spot of transmissibility. u.s. citizens aboard the diamond princess touched down in northern california overnight bound for travis air force base. the cruise ship is the sight of the largest coronavirus outbreak outside of china. it's been docked in tokyo's harbor since february 5th. yesterday american passengers were offered a way out. >> we're supposed to take an airplane. then go to the united states. >> reporter: the state department chartered two planes and offered to fly them to the u.s.. most accepted the those travellers aren't home free yet. they already spent nearly two weeks in quarantine but have to wait a while longer to reunite

with family and friend. >> when you come back to the united states, importantly, they are still subjected to a 14 day quarantine and the reason for that is that the degree of transmissibility on that cruise ship is essentially akin to being in a hot spot. >> reporter: health officials are trying to track down passengers from another cruise liner the westerdam. after they disembarked in cambodia on friday, one, an 83-year-old woman tested positive for the virus. the head of the world health organization says at this point it's impossible to predict which way this coronavirus is going to go. i'm sure those passengers are just happy to be getting back home. thanks. mississippi is bracing for a potentially catastrophic flooding today. the rain. swoll end pearl river is expected to crest at elp people already in harm's

at least two people reportedly died in the storm. more than 1100 former justice department lawyers are calling for attorney general william barr to step down. the action comes after barr intervened last week to lower the justice department's sentencing recommendation for president trump's long time friend roger stone. the president made no mention of the fallout during his visit to the dayton 500 real estate yesterday before it was postponed because of heavy rain. during his remarks he took time out to thank newly sworn in service members. >> as commander-in-chief of the greatest fighting force on the planet, a force that just spent $2.5 trillion on rebuilding our military, i want to thank you for your service. >> now meantime democratic candidate are to concussion on nevada. the state is holding its caucuses on saturday and the democratic presidential contenders are gearing up for their next debate on wednesday.

daughter. >> reporter: authorities say 38-year-old juliet parker baked up an elaborate plot to steel a baby. parker i is accused of using facebook to target unsuspecting new moms offering free photography sessions so she could build a portfolio. >> she wanted a girl and five weeks an under and raise it herself. >> reporter: the baby he/she found was a perfect match. in the third photo session, parker and her 16-year-old daughter allegedly brought cupcakes laced with an unknown drug. the victim called 911 and kicked the mother and daughter out after she began to feel numb and drowsy. she told police she first became suspicious when she noticed parker wiping her fingerprints off items she touched in the house. parker went by several ali ases.
