bay area on the front lines sayi are facing ensh whes to tips >>re getting by as much they can during this emergency. while some struggle to make ends meet, others struggle to fight the demand. we'll show you how a home testing kit works. good morning i'm devon feely. emily turner has this morning off. let's get a check of our weather in the weather center with daren. there are showers down in the south bay. most of this is to the south down around santa cruz and monterey. but some of this is going to get into the south bay today. since we have a chance for light showers, i'm going to show you that we're going to

spotlight the time frame right here. watch what happens as we go through the rest of today. san jose could pick up .10" of rain today. some of this, but really it would be light unless you're down in the south bay. as far as getting you ready to step out the door right now, temperatures are in the low to upper 40s. 49 in san jose, oakland, and san francisco. i'll be back with more on the temperatures for today and the next more meaningful rain which is coming pretty soon in the complete forecast. back over to you. all of california's under

a lockdown this weekend. contra costa and sonoma counties each reported their first deaths from the coronavirus on friday. they joined smoit san mat mateo county and santa clara counties as well. local food banks have been overwhelmed by the demand and also hit hard by a lack of volunteers. 13 members of the san jose fire department have tested positive for the coronavirus. nurses across the bay area say facilities are rationing face masks during this pandemic. the cdc says as a very last resort workers can homema masks such as bandannas or

fabric. >> i've heard that people are being asked to reuse the mask the. >> reporter: michelle hebow is hasbeen a nurse at kaiser in fremont. >> they're giving nurses surgical masks and ppe. i don't know how much ppe they're putting in a brown bag in the beginning of the shift and they are to make sure that is in tact for the rest of the shift and that is not good care. that is not good infection control. it's unacceptable. >> reporter: the need for n95 masks like this one is great. the hashtag "get meppe or personal protective equipment" is trending on social media.

health workers pleading for supplies to navi ata whaties h virus, the staff improvised. the cut surgical linen to fit a surgical mask over the masks. >> we're doing a donation drive every day until the coronavirus is gone. >> reporter: here in san francisco, the gnc in the marina is answering the call. the owner is accepting n95 masks and other supplies to drop off at local hospitals. >> this is a big freaking deal. best case scenario april 7th. worst case scenario unknown. therefore, we really have to work together to get rid of this thing and fight. >> we have what we needed at home. i think any extras we don't need at this time is far more critical for folks in hospitals and taking care of those who are sick to have them first. >> reporter: in 25 years of

being in business, it's never seen such a shortage. >> it's sad to be able to see people struggling to find, you know, what a few months ago was a simple thing such as a mask. >> kaiser permanente says it's carefully managing resources to ensure equipment is available for its health care workers during the duration of the pandemic. san jose police is about to get tougher on businesses who are not complying with the stay-at-home order. police chief eddie garcia reported that 56 businesses were found in violation including a billiards home. certain patrol cars are now ordered as health compliance rs r m ccardo urging peopleto report any violations

now delivering food and offering specials to remind his customers yesterday they're still open. >> it's something if i can put a smile on a customer's face, it's worth it to me. >> reporter: both businesses learning to adapt to feed their customers so they can keep their employees fed as well. >> when people come in here. it just kind of reassures me they're not giving up on us. >> for example, fitness studios are now also live streaming their classes. in san jose, marie medina kpix 5. this is a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. starting on monday, cameras will capture photos of license plates and drivers will be mailed a bill. caltrans is not enforcing penalties during this period.

after a contentious back and forth, governor gavin newsom and pg&e have settled over the company's bankruptciy plan. baruptcy plans did not focus enough on safety. the new deal will require pg&e to overhaul its board of directors and if they don't end their bankruptcy case on time, the state would get a chance to buy the company. a judge still needs to approve the agreement. a big loss for the san francisco music scene, a long running club shuttered during the shelter-in-place is not going to re-open. it the owner of slim's e- mailed employees this week. the decision to close was

reportedly made late last year and has nothing to do with the coronavirus outbreak. let's get into the details onnen the way. there are a couple of different opportunities. there's the one for today which i'm going focus on first. and then we're going to look at a second system and a second rain maker that's going to get here for the second half of tomorrow. hi-def doppler shows you an impressive rain maker down off the coast of monterey. but if we switch to future cast, we do see some of these showers get into the south bay. by the late morning. this is the 10:00 hour. we're seeing a few light showers work their way into santa clara county. and i'm going to play this through the now 3:00 in the afternoon. a few more spotty showers perhaps. so it's by no means widespread all day rain down here. but it is the possibility for

a few hit and miss showers and i want to point something else out. . gets us into the evening. can't overlook the chance for a few showers in the far north bay. so that's the way it will play out. if you look at the totals just for what we can get from these spotty showers throughout the day today, clearly the focus down here now that's today. and that's the system responsible for it. we're going to go to the wide view. i need to show you sunday's totally separate system sitting out here. and that one comes together just in time for the second half of the day tomorrow. that says 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. and we've got another band of rain this time coming up from the south as well. here we are tomorrow. this is the 1:00 hour. and now we start to see some

better developed rain here by the late afternoon. some of these could even have a few isolated thunderstorms down to the south. but for most of us sunday, is is really going to be somewhat of a noticeably sunny day particularly as we get into the evening into monday. there will likely still be some rain left over from that second system that goes from sunday afternoon into sunday morning. and if you look at the totals on that we pick up about .25" of rain. if you look at today and tomorrow, we're sitting near 70 for inland locations. even with that chance of rain coming in today and tomorrow we'll be in the mid to upper 60s for the bay. you can take a look at what happens after those two opportunities of rain we just looked at. we're going to keep the chances of showers going in through next week really, monday,

tuesday, and wednesday have a chance of showers. doesn't look like a significant storm. but still, plenty of opportunity to get some rain over the next few days. starting with this morning in the south bay. i'll have more on on this coming up in the next half hour. but there's a lot all of a sudden now rain wise to keep an eye on. >> there was a lot of days where it was basically sunny but some clouds would roll in. >> yep are. i think that's a good way of thinking of this. you can replay that experience. and thn we'll see thousand hinges play out as we get into monday and tuesday. here's one way california is trying to make it easier during the shelter-in-place order, you can now get alcohol delivered to your hwi, and cock pick up, or delivery as long as they have a secure lid or cap

in a different way from the north bay from the south bay. in the north bay you're looking at clear skies as you're waking up and you can kind of see that view from our camera on top of the sales force camera. but, let's get into those clouds. that's why it's cloudy in the south bay. it's a lot of rain down to the south of us. some of those are going to try and get down into santa clara county as we get into late this morning and early afternoon. here's a good example. i just stopped that at 3:00 this afternoon and you can see there's a spotty shower showing up for san jose. for right now, to get you out the door, here's where the numbers candidate stand at the moment. you get in around the bay, we're sitting at right around 50. oakland, san francisco, snaez l in at 49 degrees at this point. i'll be back with not only thbay toda for the oa

well. it's up to each state to make its own deadlines. in california, you have until june 15th to file and pay your state taxes. sa at president trump's steve direction we are moving tax day. all taxpayers will have additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties. and, for now, president trump says he does not anticipate a federal dock loun. while these steps are necessary in hot beds in these states, that other parts of the country don't face the same issues. a crackdown at the u.s. border is limiting nonessential travel to and from mexico in response to the pandemic. both countries have agreed to limit cross border travel. thousands of people cross the u.s. mexico border every day for work, for school, and for other activities. the department of homeland security is also turning away

all migrants without proper documentation. the u.s. is enngll travelat the northern border with dawell. undocumented immigrants during the pandemic. under new enforcement guidelines agents will focus on detightening public safety risk. the measures are necessary to safeguard the well being of its personnel and the public. mixed messages at the white house, president trump and the nation's top doctor on infectious diseases seem to contract each other on friday on whether a milaria drug will work. >> the answer is no and the answer you're talking about is anecdotal evidence as the commissioner of the fda and as the president mentioned yesterday, we're trying to strike a balance between making something with a potential of an effect to the american people available at the same time that we do it under the
