into the east by. this is one of the hi e about to get a break whtht of rafor the afternnodone entirely because there will be more coming back into later today and into monday. that is what i want to talk about in more detail coming up. we'll take a look at daytime highs and everything else. i'll see you with that in a few minutes. devon, back over to you. several l.a. firefighters are in critical condition after a fiery explosion last night in a downtown building. at least 11 firefighters were sent to the hospital with burns, three are in critical condition but expected to survive. l.a. fire says it happened inside a building that manufacturers butane honey oil that easily ig notes. hash oil is extracted from cannabis. that explosion happened around 6:30. by 7:00 ks the fire was

upgraded to a code major emergency. within 200 responders were called in to help. >> they went interior and things didn't seem right. the smoke pressure was escalating. the heat was increasing in the rear of the occupancy and when the member who is telling me this felt that, he was the officer, he told every one to get out of the building. as he initiated their exit, that is when the explosion or flash it is being described as both things, an explosion or flash over occurred. >> officials have not yet determined exactly what caused that fire. several bay area counties are about to move into the governor's stage two of reopening. san francisco, marin counties will allow curbside pickup starting on monday. they will make similar moves

music. >> i don't want to say it in the wrong way, like an addiction, but a good one. >> they will start on monday in san francisco. santa clara county is the only bay area county that will not allow these kinds of sales starting early next week. kenny choi, kpix 5. in oakland, police had to shut down an area because too many people were ignoring the no parking signs. they banned street parking to curb the crowds. signs were up yesterday and some did get tickets but by the afternoon some of the signs had been ripped down. with no signs, parking officers cannot issue tickets, so oakland police had to step in. the strategy did seem to work. we saw much smaller crowds compared to previous weekends. i have seen on a friday night, so many people congregate here and half the people do not have masks on. it is like the regular lake

merit party, so in general i agree with it, but the city has to do a better job of implementing it. those parking tickets are $70. the city will enforce the parking ban. this month on friday, saturday and sunday and on memorial day. in san francisco we saw plenty of people out on saturday. you can see there wasn't much social distancing going on. earlier this month, the mayor threatened to close the park if crowds continue to show up. >> this is the first week of reopened beaches in southern california. they are open only for active use which means walking, running and swimming is allowed. sunbathing and hanging out are not permitted and have wear face masks and keep a six- foot distance from others at all times. >> we should follow what the state gives us. you know, wearing masks, distance and even though we go

to the beach and stuff, for your protection as well. better to be prepared. on saturday, many appeared to be following the rules and keeping their distance. parking lots are closed to keep crowding down. >> the food and drug administration granted emergency operation for the first coronavirus testing kit made by an austin, texas company. another test could be cleared in a few months, a british lab says they have developed a test that is fast, cheap and accurate. all you do is take a sample from inside your nose, place it in a chemical solution and pour it into a plastic device. >> we use what is called a molecular chemistry. we're amplifying it many millions of folds to be able to detect it. >> the lab partnered with a wisconsin base manufacturer. results take about ten minutes. new concerns about covering

your nose and mouth may not be coronavirus. i'm learning what new research reveals about the virus and your eyes. >> there are special receptors on the eye that can bind the covid-19 coronavirus. >> while the coronavirus typically enters through the nose and mouth, the doctor says there is growing evidence the eyes, too, may be vulnerable. >> the eyes are a bit of a mystery area right now. we know that the receptors, that the virus likes to bind to. they are present on the eye. >> researchers at johns hopkins found ace two in the eyes that line your nasal passage and respiratory track and the main way the virus gets inside your body. the takeaway is clear. >> the eye area should be very high jen cly treated and protected and we need to pay attention to that just as we do

act for fred willard in everybody loves raymond and modern family died. he was known for his film roles in the spinal tap and anchorman. the four time emmy nominee rarely played lead roles. his daughter said he died peacefully friday night. the cause hasn't been released yet. he was 86 years old. hollywood is remembering indy film and television director lynn shelton who died on saturday, known as on netflix and hulu's little fires everywhere, fresh off the boat and new germ. shelton died friday from a bloodies order. she was 54. a future ceremony with those shout outs and a celebration of the class of 2020. the graduate together event had a special commencement speech. but what remains true is

is a drop on the lens. i mean, many of these show it is currently raining. san jose, san francisco, oakland, concord. you see the little raindrops there. it is not raining a lot. let's switch to high def doppler. look for the bands of green. there is a weak band of rain that is marching across the east by and south bay. that is why we're seeing light rain in oakland. this is why we saw the sensor saying it was raining lightly in san jose. next, we put it into the futurecast. it shows that band of rain beautifully. that is a great sign to know it is raining. what is happening right now, exactly right. let's see what is next. a few light showers through the mornings this is until noy. then clears out. a few light showers pretty much in the places they are until no then we'll take a break. let's go back to the wide view. most of today is fairly quiet until the epitomize eng. then we'll see another band of rain start to approach.

it is really light showers for the remainder of sunday night. monday gets a little more impressive. we advance into early monday morning and we'll see better rain moving across the entire area. that will stay going well into monday afternoon for the north bay and by the time we get to the second half of monday, things begin to quiet down. if we look how much rain we'll get, here is sunday. we barely get anything for the rest of the day even though it will look gray, a bit damp out there. there is not a whole other of rain or forcing to make the clouds drop their rain. on monday, the numbers go up a little more. that covers the rain story for the next two days. as far as daytime highs today, we'll top out where we were yesterday, maybe a few degrees below that so mid-70s inland. 73 concord. 68 oakland. in the seven-day forecast you

normally crowded markets. they were checking travel permits. they confirmed more than 2,000 new cases of coronavirus on friday and 26 new deaths were reported bringing the total to nearly 400. as of now that lockdown will stay in effect for seven days. brazil now has the fourth highest number of coronavirus cases anywhere in the world. in the past 24 hours they have seen an increase of close to 15,000 new cases of the virus. brazil reported an additional 816 deaths bringing the death toll to over 15,000. bra spillspain's prime minister says the give the will ask the country's parliament for a month long extension for the state of e pledger sy. the aim is for this to be the last extension to the lockdown. this comes after the president of madrid's medical association said the spanish capital was not ready to reopen. he said the health infrastructure would not be

from that drive, you can see the reflections from the headlights. that rain is barely enough to measure but it is a mist. we have gotten a tenth of an inch of rain on the peninsula. this is across the bay bridge.. we can track the showers out there now. we just saw them coming across the south bay. on high def doppler, we see that is where the rain is, from the bay bridge south light showers. a few on the peninsula. maybe a feupfor san ytng measurable for san jose yet. most others have gotten something. over the next fau hours, pretty much stays here and fizzles out. that in the. by noon, there is a break. not a whole lot going on today. by the evening, light showers will return because we're not

entirely done with this system. going info monday there is another impulse that will come through and rain is in the forecast for monday. there is a commons for an isolated shower today and more likely bet on monday but once we get into the early afternoon on monday, things should even start quieting down. if you look at rainfall totals, here is today. we barely get anything. then monday, numbers do come up ability. maybe some better opportunity fis for rain. that covers the big picture on this. i want to talk about the more detailed information. the south bay, even though we're not getting a lot of measurable rain in the cities, we will in the mountains. this is the kind of storm that doesn't have a lot of energy on its own but has plenty of moisture to work with. the mountains will force the clouds to drop their rain.

so we'll pickup some. if you look at what happens here. only about .01-inch of rain today. there is nothing to force the clouds to give you rain. this is a unique aspect of the storm. not a lot of rain coming our way. over the next two days we could see as much as a foot of snow in the higher elevations of the sierra. there is a winter storm warning in the middle of may. goes into effect at midnight tonight. stays in effect all the way through monday until tuesday afternoon. travel will be difficult at times for anybody trying to get over the passes because the mountains are able to force them to drop more of their precipitation and there will be snow down to 6,500 feet. it is kind of difficult to pit it out on regular satellite. there is a big spin in the after sphere but it is this tap i wants to this out. not a lot of energy but plenty
