this is kpix 5 news. clashes between news in the bay area. containing one of three massive wildfires burning in the bay area. businesses are hit by coronavirus and wildfire evacuation. how they are working to bounce back. >> everybody is eager to have some sort of sense of normalcy. >> it's about 6:00 on this sunday, august 30. good morning. >> let's start with the check

of the weather with our meteorologist. >> reporter: it's going to be another morning where it's a mix of marine layer and smoke. the air quality is exactly the same as yesterday at this time. that's the view over the east bay. plenty of clouds in that scene. we will put some numbers in front of the day. it's 57 in concord. 50 in oakland. 56 in san jose. you can see how widespread the marine layer is. we are all waking up to low- grade clouds. here is the air-quality forecast. even though we burned back the marine layer we get rid of that layer of clouds, the hayes sticks around and air-quality is going to be unhealthy for sensitive groups today. you might notice a little bit of a warm-up if you are inland today. really settle by a couple of degrees putting us into the low 90s for the daytime highs. we will stay in the low 70s for the bay. will be back with a full forecast in a few minutes. another right night of

protest. police tweeted out these videos of people in the ground throwing water bottles at police and pointing a green laser at officers the clashes playing out in the area of grand avenue just off the 580. they are reporting rocks thrown at them and protesters were using shields as weapons for the march demanding just just for jacob lake began peacefully but ended with six people being arrested. they deployed minimal gas and smoke. last night's protest comes on the heels of more than one dozen demonstrators arrested in oakland friday night. one person taken into custody for assault on an officer. >> he has been arrested for vandalism. accused of spray painting san jose will be free and blm. the city hall was targeted and they are investigating whether the incidents are connected.

a third night of demonstrations in sacramento begin with a march from cesar chavez plaza. a group of 70 people called the solidarity wi several officers out on bikes blocking streets trying to contain the crowd. over the past few nights they left behind a string of destruction including broken windows, graffiti. they spent saturday boarding up storefronts. the sheriff's office requested the national guard be on standby but the request was denied. they are using backfires to gain ground on the complex fire. it's 45 percent contained for the santa there are 33% contained. the complex at u is 55 percent contained. a man has been arrested for arson. investigators say he set a

field on fire off highway 101. the suspect admitted to setting the grass field fire. he did it because he was having a bad day. he remains in custody and will be in court on tuesday. is a make more progress on the lnu campus amore are me th they areme. >> the owner of this business did not expect his property to survive the fierce flames. you can see traces of fire retardant in the garden and were charred patch of land meets green grass. the 120 acre big patient retreat was largely spared. a mile away homes on the same street didn't have the same fate. >> it's strange. you get ready for your property you know and it's standing ng

support local businesses. >> i dislike coming into healdsburg. >> some residents got the okay to return home. they are cautiously relieved. >> my neighborhood is allowed to go back don't unpack. downtown is not evacuation anymore so far the lnu complex fire has destroyed more than 1200 structures. officials are getting a head start on relief efforts with the lnu fire still burning. the county open to assistant centers to he fire victims get back on their feet. one located inside of the healdsburg high school representing governmental social service agencies such as fema. we spoke to visitors who lost everything and fire victims who were there to help. >> god must be very angry.

he wants to take everything away from everybody. i almost committed suicide. >> none of us want to go through it again but we don't want anybody to join our club. this is an exclusive club would like to keep exclusive. we don't want any more members. >> it still doesn't have an idea of how many homes have burned because the fire is in rural wooded areas. located at bank of america. the eastern side of the zone another new assistant centers started at the county health and human services building in napa. today they launch our fourth location. to the south a recovery resource center is now up and running at kaiser permanente arena in santa cruz. all centers will be open daily until you notice. we want to thank you, for donations and all effort you put towards the telethon with the red cross for fire relief.

thanks to your help, we have raised an estimated total of more than 640,000 dollars all of that for the victims of the lightning fires. this week and more businesses were allowed to reopen outdoors across the east bay. we went to pleasanton to see what was open. >> reporter: some of the regulars new others stumbled upon it but add them up and you had a line. mo of the day at cosmos barbershop. >> i've been a longtime customer . probably 15 years maybe more. >> i wouldn't be willing to wait with eight people in front cut my son's hair 't do a good myself it was a disaster.

that was yesterday afternoon. i am going to show you a unique forecast for what the smoke is likely to do over the next day and a half coming up in a bit. students start off -- to start off i want to begin with the air quality in specific parts of the bay area. in the south bay there is a lot of moderate air. we still have a trouble spot on the peninsula around redwood city. the tri-valley has been stuck with the most consistent bad air. it's unhealthy for sensitive groups this morning. it's a little better for concord right now. look at all the green showing up. not only for the immediate east bay but look at the city. that's transitioned over the last hour. air quality was rough overnight in the city. within the last hour the quality has begun to improve. you should not be hitting too much by way of bad air quality

for the city. not so in marin. those are red dots we are looking at an unhealthy area. the smoke is congregating and sinking down into the valley and has been persistent. we have had the consistent bad air over the last few days. we a right now. these readings are only telling you what the air while quality is like right now. it changes throughout the course of thgeneral forecast is unhealthy for sensitive groups throughout the day. futurecast shows you should not read it to literal. there are two things that stand out. it gives us an idea there is smoke coming off the complex are the deeper the red the more smoke. you could see the general flow today is going to be to take the smoke the other way. yesterday the smoke coming off the fire got pulled back into the valley. today we will see a lot of it pushed more off to the east and

here is the fire coming off lnu. everywhere else you have enough smoke added to what's sitting a the air quality still has to stay in the forecast like this unhealthy for sensitive groups. there is the view in the east bay looking down. that's mostly the marine layer up there. the heat doesn't look too bad. if we watch the marine layer over the next few days watch tomorrow this is monday morning. not nearly as much of it. we start losing the onshore flow and get less marine layer unless breeze and humidity. that will have a subtle impact on fighting these fires and the way we feel. temperatures are gonna go up a bit inland. if you look at the main fire we are concerned about in terms of smoke the complex burning down here in the hills off to the east, it doesn't matter what the marine layer does. this is above that. it's a total different hermas and a total different world.

allegedly through walk rocks and water bottles. this is a peaceful protest calling for justice for jacob blake. they ultimately made six arrests. >> reporter: a man was seen waving a sward towards a crowd at one point. he was taken away in an ambulance. another suspect was detained for carrying a weapon which turned out to be a bb gun. with fires active in sonoma county they have opened a place to help people get back on their feet. they are located at bank of america and a the healdsburg high school. they found out a hard lesson learned from four years of higher disaster. >> this center has opened even though the fire is burning and there are evacuation warnings in some areas.

it's grim evidence of how experienced sonoma county is with this kind of disaster. this time it's the walbridge fire that came within five miles of downtown healdsburg and is still actively burning in rural areas. hillsboro high school is the latest one-stop shopping location for help for fire victims. >> yes, we have been through this is a county three out of the last four years. for each person it's a new journey when it happens to you. >> the center features representatives from government social service agencies like fema, department of insurance, red cross, and dmv. they are helping guide people who may still be in a state of shock. people like richard, who lost everything. >> god must be very angry. he wants to seem to take everything away from everybody. i almost committed suicide. >> richer, met victoria, and she helped him get through his suicidal thoughts. the two are homeless now together, and have no idea what to do.

his memorial service was held at montebello park in los angeles county. the 21-year-old one of eight servicemembers killed when the and themis vehicle they were in sync. his sister remembered him as someone who made a difference and always did his best. this morning we are learning more about two soldiers killed off the coast of san diego. the defense department says the two soldiers were killed and three injured when the helicopter crashed, thursday. so far it's only being described as an aircraft mishap. no other details y
