good morning. good to be with you, i'm anne-marie green. the coronavirus death toll is arising at an alarming rate with yesterday marking the deadliest day in the u.s. more than 3,100 americans died from the virus on wednesday, that is more than the number of people killed in the 9/11 terror attacks. the highest number of positive tests at 106,000. hospitals report dire lack of resources. there is hope on the horizon. today, the panel set to decide whether to recommend pfizer's vaccine to the public. debra alfarone is with us. what can we expect from this meeting?

>> it is an all-day meeting led by a committee of scientists. they are going to look at those new developments where two people had allergic reactions after being vaccinated. >> the coronavirus vaccine could be days away. >> if it helps, i would try it. >> the independent committee would recommend vaccine by pfizer biontech for emergency use for the fda. >> these independent scientists will discuss it and then vote. >> nearly 3 million doses could be shipped if the committee gives approval. >> colorado expects 46,800 doses. >> new york city expects 170,000 doses. >> the committee will likely look at the united kingdom where the same vaccine rolled out. two health care workers with a history of serious allergies had a reaction. >> this is something we should expect of news of people

reacting differently of a brand new biontech public health weaponon. >> england's national health said both people recovered but recommending those with a history of severe allergies hold off until investigated. >> i do see patients with vaccine allergies, those are usually patients who had a reaction to the component of the vaccine. such as gelitin and latex. >> canada approved the pfizer and biontech vaccine there and citizens can start receiving shots next week. >> dr. fauci said there are five other vaccines in the pipeline. moderna may come out next month and johnson and johnson and others may be early next year. >> all right. debra alfarone in washington.

stephen hahn talks about the green light of the first vaccine in the u.s. >> americans will have to wait even longer for another round of coronavirus aid. lawmakers just passed a one week extension of government funding to buy more time to come up with a deal. top democrats rejected a $916 billion offer from treasury secretary mnuchin. they refused the stimulus checks and they want more help for americans when it comes to federal unemployment benefits. >> facebook is being hit with a landmark lawsuit. trade commission accuse he the social network giant of being an illegal monopoly. diane king hall is in new york. what does this mean and what effect could this have on their operation? >> they could be required to divest assets including whatsapp

army general secretary lloyd austin. if confirmed, he would be the first black man to run the pentagon. >> i know this man. i know his respect for our system of government. >> you can expect as expect of defense, i will give you the same direct and unvarnished counsel. >> general austin who retired four years ago will need a waiver to exempt him to require defense secretaries to be out of uniform for seven years. con congressional democrats have praised the historic nature, some are expressing concern about passing another waiver having done so for president trump's former defense secretary james mattis. >> i believe in the importance of civilian control of the defense, so does defense secretary. >> helping with distribution of covid vaccines.

mr. biden has vowed to give out 100 million doses in his first days in office. >> hunter biden has learned prosecutors in delaware are investigating taxes. subpoenas were served tuesday and the investigation is focused on potential tax fraud crimes that had been going on at least a year before president-elect announced his candidacy. in a statement, hunter biden says he is taking matters seriously and is confident he has handled his affairs appropriately. coming up, more americans are getting flu shots this year. there are concerns some kids are not. >> finally landing a spacex test rocket ends up in flames but is considered a success anyway. this is the cbs morning news. news.

an unmanned test flight of spacex's new starship blasted off from south texas but the six and a half minute flight ended with the rocket coming down too fast. spacex wants to use the starship to put massive satellites into orbit and deliver people and supplies to the moon and mars. elon musk said they got all the data they needed. there are some concerns some kids are skipping the flu shot this year. and calls to stop a scheduled execution. the new york times reports today's scheduled execution of a man who was an accomplice in two murders when he was 18 is stirring debate over punishment of young offenders.

bernard now 40 scheduled to be put to death in federal prison. convicted in the role in a car jacking and murder of two youth ministers in texas in 1999. others were younger and ineligible. another man who was 19 at the time was executed in september. thousands of people have asked for clemency including senators cory booker, dick durbin and kim kardashian west. the only person who can grant clem si is president trump. >> the cdc is worried because fewer black children are getting flu shots. more americans are getting flu shots but the rate for black kids is down. there is a push for people to get vaccinated with the flu because the coronavirus is already overwhelming the u.s. health system. the cdc said it is not clear why fewer black children are not getting shots. >> the search for two missing

workers at a former power plant that collapsed while being demolished is now a recovery. the two workers disappeared at the plant in cincinnati. three other workers were injured. rescuers had to dig for hours to free one of those workers. officials say the worker was conscious. crews spent hours searching for the two people still unaccounted for. >> this will be nonstop until they find the missing. whether one day, two days, a week. they will be here until they find those people. >> the plant closed in 2018. it is not clear what caused the collapse. >> still ahead, youtube crack down. why the video sharing platform is pulling the plug on content alleging election fraud. election fraud. lower their blood sugar. a majority of adults who took ozempic® reached an a1c under 7 and maintained it.

the agency found ge misled investors in 2016, 2017 about the source of profit in the power business. the company failed to fully inform investors about risk associated with ge capital between 2015 and 2017. capping the investigation into ge's former leadership's team. into youtube will start removing new videos disputing the 2020 election results. the google owned platform said enough states have shown joe biden is the winner. youtube is trying to strike a balance by, quote, allowing for a broad range of political speech and making sure our platform isn't abused. a report that plastic surgery is on the rise because people don't like how they look on zoom. one surgeon tells the washington post he's carrying out 90% more injectable like fillers than last year.
