increased stimulus checks for americans is now in the hands of the senate. the house yesterday approved a measure to increase relief checks to $2,000 after the president pushed for it. right now most americans will get $600 under a bipartisan covid relief bill mr. trump signed into law sunday night. debra alfarone is in washington. tell us what the chances are this legislation passes in the senate. >> it's not likely. there are some republicans who do support it. >> the bill is passed. >> reporter: the democratic led house passes a bill to increase stimulus checks to $2,000 for millions of eligible americans. now it's up to the republican led senate to approve it or defy president trump. the president held out on signing the covid relief bill for five days out of concern that $600 check wasn't enough.

>> is $600 enough to get you -- >> that's gas money. that's gas money. that's about it. >> reporter: the senate could vote on the new bill as soon as today, but those $2,000 stimulus checks would inflate the total covid relief billion to more than a trillion dollars. many have expressed concern about increasing spending. >> i am telling donald trump don't just talk about t act. theisen nate republicans have followed you through thick and thin. get them now to act. >> reporter: while the fight over money continues, the fight against covid-19 intensifies. according to the cdc more than 11 million doses of the vaccine have been shipped around the country but 2 million have been vaccinated. >> reporter: new startling statistics. covid has killed 1 out of every 1,000 americans. experts say a crush of holiday travelers is prompting fears of

tennessee bureau of investigation. >> a lot of times in these cases there is something that sets someone off. clearly there had to be some precipitating event that caused the action. surveillance video illustrates the sheer power of the explosion that left three people injured. federal agents continue to sweep through information from the scene. they searched through his receipts. cbs news are looking into whether he targeted communications systems by blowing up the rv outside of the at&t communications system. his father used to work for at&t. >> the next step is figure out the why. the why is the longest process. the key information we need is

gone with the suspect. >> reporter: the explosion has certainly rattled the city in more ways than one. they're trying to reassure people the city is safe and there are no known threats. the fbi says it appears warner acted alone. mola lenghi, cbs news, nashville. prosecutors in new york city are looking into a confrontation over the weekend involving a woman who wrongly accused a black teenager of stealing her iphone. >> this is my phone. >> you don't have to explain nothing to her. are you kidding me, you feel like there's only one iphone made in the world? >> moments later the woman allegedly scratched the 14-year-old and tackled him. turns out it wasn't her phone. she left hers in an uber vehicle, which the driver later returned. the video was recorded by the steen's father keyon harold. the mayor called this racism.
