you can see how there is fog on the roadway. part of it does not. it is an excellent example for what much of the bay area will look like. it is getting pushed around and you may be in fog one minute and out a minute later. here is the east bay we do not see any areas here. if we look at where the fog is and we do not see much in the north bay with the exception of napa. we are down to 3/10 of a mile from about. what you get to the central valley, it gets pick. give yourself extra time. it dense fog advisory for the central valley i will be back with more in a couple of minutes. it will be sunny and low 60s

for the rest of the day we begin with breaking news. a passenger plane carrying 62 people have gone missing, fully after takeoff from jakarta. reuters has reported the brief out off the coast. a flight tracking radar said they lost 10,000 feet of altitude after less than one minute. search and rescue is underway. there were 56 passengers and six crew members on board. a live look from capitol hill, warehouse plan to introduce an article of impeachment against president trump on monday bay area representative j jackie speier's says there is no other option . >> if we do not impeach him on the conduct in which he engaged, will there ever be a circumstance that is worthy of impeachment?

there are allegations that current employees may have been involved in social media accounts that contain objectionable or offensive contact. opd will not allow members to engage in or support this kind of content. they will root out this conduct within the department. according to the chronicle it is connected to former opd officer jarrell schneider, who was in washington d.c. to protest wednesday. he claims he did not participate in the siege of the capital. a live look at east bay. a stay-at-home order for the bay area expired at midnight it is likely to be extended. state officials will collect data from bay area counties this weekend and announced plans going forward. across the region, available icu capacity is down to 3%. in get smaller if there is a post holiday covid surge in the next few weeks. residents are divided about the value to stakeholders.

l.a. county mortuaries are so overwhelmed that state workers are forced to use mobile morgues. how eos workers were seen floating bodies into 10 refrigerator trucks on friday. the sonoma county corner office is preparing for the worst. they had a refrigerated trailer last weekend. the fda says some of the covid saliva test are showing false results. specifically, false negatives are they are less invasive tests . the fda says they need to be administered within 14 days of showing symptoms. the company has several pop-up sites across the bay area. small independent pharmacies say they are being left out of the vaccine supply system in favor of larger chains. cvs has done vaccine distribution. independent pharmacies say they could do it faster because they have direct relationships with

this caught our attention and the latest jobs report. women accounted for all stop losses last month. according to the labor department, u. s. employers cut 140,000 jobs in december. women's left 156,000 jobs, weltman gained 16,000. the data showed racial disparities to more black and latino woman lost jobs in december and, while white women made significant gains many small businesses that

else. if you are with us at 6:00, there was a good patch over the bay bridge. now it is gone. most of the drive is fine. we also are checking the east bay. this is the tri-valley. i am talking about real patchy stuff. you may not notice too many issues, but know if getting on the road, be prepared. you may come across an unexpected patch of dense fog it shows up over the peninsula. napa is the place to see it. everywhere is doing okay until the central valley. of course as of a has its issues. there is the dense fog advisory until 9:00. we have a cold one in santa rosa at 33. most other spots are low to mid 40s point livermore, 38. if you look at daytime highs, once we get rid of the patchy fog, today is blue sky. sunny

and relatively warm. up to near 60. santa clara goes to 60 for the daytime high. we hit 58 in hayward. for the for east bay, 60. danville, 59. will not creek, 60. pleasanton goes to 60. members for east bay have oakland at 59. north bay, similar numbers. novato, 61. san rafael, 61. petaluma, 62. numbers in the fark north bay maybe a degrees warmer. we talked about saturday being sunny. i will put us into sunday because it is different. sunday, there will be a week system that will try so hard to bring a slight rain. it will fall apart. at sunday 3:05 a.m. a few clouds in north bay. the rain will fall apart.

live from the cbs bay area studios, this is kpix 5 news. welcome back and thank you for joining us. i am devin fehely. let's start with a start of the check with the weather with meteorologist darren heck. >> we will turn our attention toward the record-setting warm temperatures. it will not get here until next week. let me get you ready for saturday. a couple of headlines. first of all, there is patchy fog. it is not widespread. there are a few spots to talk about sunny and bright today. warm next week. from the top of the salesforce

tower looking west, it is fairly isolated. if you go over the the bridge, at 6:00 a.m. you were driving through dense fog across the western span. now, it is perfectly clear. that is the seen in east bay. similar in the tri-valley. however, if we look at visibility map, there is fog in napa. it is cold in the north bay. it is 33 degrees. it is 41 in oakland. there is the patchy area, where the visibility sensor is. if in napa, give yourself extra time. anywhere near the coast, city or peninsula, plan on patchy fog. see the rest of the forecast in a few minutes. a live look at the white house. house democrats plan to impeach the president again. perhaps as soon as monday. the charge of incitement of insurrection is set to be introduced. two republican senators will consider convicting the president if he

22 deaths in the past week alone. compared to the surge over the summer at that time, they were averaging 10 deaths per week. our kpix 5 betty yu reports. >> reporter: in a week went deaths from covid-19 hit a new record of 4000 deaths per day, sonoma county has made room for more bodies. on saturday, this refrigerated trailer from the california office of emergency services was delivered to the coroner's office. >> in reality, it is dire. this thing is serious and we want people to regulate themselves. >> reporter: the county morgue has room for 35 bodies. the trailer has room for 56 more. >> you walk in and there are rows on each site. >> reporter: the possibility of rapidly accumulating deaths is not out of the question. especially with intensive care units around the bay area

filling out. according to stanford pediatric infectious disease specialist dr. rodney matthew. >> i would be surprised if we do not see the numbers climb over the next several weeks. >> reporter: dr. matthews says the current spike we are seeing is from thanksgiving. >> my concern is we are yet to see what will happen with the more recent holiday. christmas and new year break that everybody had. my worry is we will see another surge. >> reporter: sonoma county says they are prepared to take in bodies from other neighboring counties if their morgues are overwhelmed as well. in santa rosa, andria borba . a live look in san jose. there are zero available icu in santa clara county. on friday, they have 20 beds. on top of that the county is averaging 1200 new cases every

day. more than 840 people have died from the virus. >> our capacity in every hospital is stretched. we are wanting to help other counties in other regions. we are trying to do our part to take care of everybody. we are by no means out of the woods. we are in the thick of it. president-elect joe biden is promising to get more people vaccinated. he plans to release all available doses when he takes office. the current policy holds half of the stock in reserve for second doses. some are worried and new, more contagions variant could cause a bigger search. the u.k. has hospitals pushed to the breaking point, especially in london. the city mayor declared a major incident after the number of hospitalized buyers patience jumped by 27% this week.

the london ambulance service has taken 8000 calls per day. across britain, 1300 virus deaths were reported yesterday. a grand jury investigation is underway in colorado into the death of an unarmed black man in police custody. elisha mckay was stopped by aurora police officers on his way home from a convenience store in august 2019. the 23-year-old was put into a chokehold after a struggle. days later he was taken off of life support. the state attorney general has forwarded the case to a grand jury. law professor says one reason is the age he wants to be able to subpoena documents and witness testimony. >> or they think it is a hot button issue and they do not want to be the ones responsible for making the ultimate charging decision. a lot of it comes down to, were police following particle? did they see a threat? was there an assessment of the

information may shed light on the suspicious death of a young woman in mississippi. on friday, we spoke with peter van sant who is covered the case for 48 hours. >> we learned there was a detective at the meridian put the department who put together his own report. he said this case should be investigated as a homicide. me but the new prosecutor know about this, she has agreed to reconvene a new grand jury to hear about this evidence we

told her about. the family has been working this for years. the death occurred in 2014. they believe one's the detective report is presented to the grand jury, with belief the crime scene had been altered and the body had been moved to. of course, that does not happen in a suicide they believe it will lead to indictments, arrests and eventually, a trial. >> you could see peter's report tonight at 10:00 right here on kpix 5. california's labor market has not bounced back as quickly as other parts of the country. our len kiese asked scott anderson, the chief economist for bank of the west if there is a positive outlook for the bay area economy >> but the second half of the year, we think the reopening of service businesses, the vaccinations will allow folks to spend aggressively. the labor market will continue

to rebound. there is a chance the biden administration will get fiscal stimulus from the federal government, which will turbocharge the job growth at least for the second half of the year. we have to get through the surge of virus cases before we see that. california has one of the most restrictive stay at home orders. one of only four states with stay-at-home orders. one of only seven states that are completely locked down right now. that is what we have to get through. we know leisure and hospitality businesses, tourism, restaurants and bars are the epicenter of the economic pain. california governor newsom is making of a small payment for low income families. is it enough? >> it is important and critical for support. we want to get people through

until they can get vaccinated so that they remain solvent and get through staying in their homes. they can eat without missing meals. that is what we are trying to do right now. keep people from falling further down the rabbit hole of economic dislocation. estate home prices are forecasted to rise more than 10% due to a shortage of homes for sale. volunteers in the tahoe basin accounting bald eagles in the annual tradition. there are 26 locations around the lake for volunteers to track the bird. the bald eagle was put on the great seal of the united states in 1782. the species was at a low point due to the pesticide ddt. was placed on the endangered list in the late 70s. the count showed zero bald eagles and last year it reached

24 . >> the reason they have come back is because the u. s. had to work together and had to make sure the eagles stayed protected and had the means to stay successful. this year in a number of volunteers signed up for this survey. the tahoe institute for national sites had to cap it at 250. gorgeous pictures. this is the view from the top of the mark hopkins hotel, looking off toward the west. it has been a good morning to watch the vagaries of fog. look at the patch of fog floating out there. over parts of the city looking toward the west. if we look from the top of salesforce looking east, you see hayes in the east bay we do not see any fog. the fog is isolated and patchy and focused on the city in the peninsula. there is some in napa valley the closer you are to the delta

or if you're in the city and around the peninsula those are the two most likely places you will run into issues with patchy fog. that is 880 and it is clear as far as the eye can see. a good example looking over tri- valley. it is hayes and inversion. it is not fog. we are doing okay and the tri- valley is far as fog is concerned. 38 in livermore. colder in northbay. santa rosa at 33. it is 50 in san francisco. san jose, 41 point you can see why i am pointing out napa. visibility is 3/10 of a mile. the same in san francisco. most other spots, we are doing okay. dense fog advisory if in central valley. for anybody leaving the bay, are going up 80, as you get into the delta, you will hit fog . daytime high today. was the fog burns off, a beautiful and sunny day, near

60. if you look at futurecast, it will be sunny. here is 2:00 and 3:00 and no clouds. here is how sunday will be the front. a system tries to approach as we get into sunday rain at 6:00. it falls apart before it gets to the actual coast. we may notice a few clouds on sunday in the afternoon. we will not get any rain out of that. that will be a story for a wild watch the big picture. all of the storms in the pacific they will come in and go to far north. this one tries to bring a light shower to the north bay on tuesday. will make it a sprinkle in the north bay on tuesday. if we look at the long range futurecast, it will rain between now and late january. now through january 15 and lots of rain. nothing down here. if we play it out as far as this particular model will go, all the way to january 18, it has not rained. look at throughout the year.

january, february and march are three big months for us. on average we get 4 1/2 inches of rain in january we have 3/10 so far. we are falling we behind. we need to start ringing catch up let's get into seven-day forecast. it is not rain. instead, it is the complete opposite. we have a warm-up for next week will bring our daytime highs to near record warmth. low 70s by the time i get to thursday and friday of the next week and let. daytime highs in the bay are mid to upper 60s. and the" mid-60s as well. we are changing the pattern. it was nice to get the active pattern for the last week and a half we have light rainmakers. at looks like it is about to turn off and we will do the exact opposite for the first half of january. >> is that a term?
