showers trying their best to get into the north bay. you see, this falls apart before it makes it down towards the sonoma county line. but at least there is a bit of rain. as we get into the early morning, a little bit of rain and then it falls apart through the later part of the morning. if we do see any of this kind will barely be measurable. it will be limited to wards sonoma. northbay drizzle. sing partly cloudy skies. then, near record warmth coming our way. we have to show you the lower 70s that are in store. looking off towards the last. what is different about today? these mid-level clouds have just kept the temperatures warm enough that we are not seeing the development of that patchy fog. a pretty view of the city.

and, as far as the temperatures go, it is 35. it ranges from 35 there to 50 in the city. thank you. developing this morning, two shootings of a night and two people seriously hurt. the first shooting happened at about 730. a second shooting happened at 2:30 a.m. not clear that shootings are connected. they say that there are no suspects for either of the shootings just yet. taking a lie look at capitol hill. with less than two weeks before the president leaves the white house democrats are preparing to bring an article of impeachment as early as tomorrow. this morning we are learning at least 80 people have been arrested in connection with the c age. tom hansen has the latest.

>> a senior law-enforcement official says investigators are exploring why some individuals had weapons and the ties that can function as plastic handcuffs. it continues to pursue charges in connection with wednesday's assault. that includes adam johnson of florida allegedly seen carrying that during the rampage. this man wearing horns, a bearskin headdress was also arrested. the article of impeachment incitement of insurrection alleges president trumps conduct gravely endanger the security of the united states. he would be the first president to be impeached twice. >> on saturday heavily armed term supporters gathered for a stop the steel protests. while anti-trump demonstrators rallied in front of the tower in new york's times square. tom hansen, cbs news.

>> federal officials also charged the lawmaker who recorded himself storming the capital. derek evans stepped down from his post yesterday. a search is on for a suspect who shot three people and killed one of them. it happened just before 9:00 p.m.. they say that an argument led to the shooting critically wounding two people and killing a third. they are now in the hospital. the crime scene investigators examined a car which had a door open. they believe that the suspect fled on foot. they confirmed a new record 695 new deaths in the past 24 hours along with more than 52,000 new cases and another troubling statistic 3% of the icu beds are available this morning which is far below the 15% threshold that could've lifted the stay-at-home order. instead it has been extended

indefinitely. under that order, they are supposed to stay at home. there are exceptions such as work, or shopping. outdoor recreation is still out. more than a week into january, this hasn't shown a postholiday spike. the hope is hospitalizations may soon decline. >> as best we can tell, the reproductive member but the new infections one infected person produces has gone down in recent weeks. >> however, the stay-at-home extension is keeping many businesses in limbo. some are bending the rules. last night we spotted restaurants serving customers outdoor even though the type of service is prohibited. >> if you are at risk or you feel uncomfortable, you should stay at home. but i also think that this

gentleman should be allowed to support his family. the people who work for him should be allowed to support their families and the people who come here and feel comfortable coming here should be welcomed. >> some are providing takeout but also allowing people to eat their meals nearby. as a vaccine rollout continues there is more than 22 million confirmed cases in the united states. that is more than double the amount in india. they have the second most number of infections. we have the latest on the continuing search. >> the worst of the crisis has america in its grips setting alumni records. more than 20,000 new deaths this week that is somebody dying every 29 seconds. >> they were darker days could come. arizona is now one of the worst hotspots in the world. the states governor still refusing a mask mandate but ramping up vaccination experts

the medical association says it will be in those offices where most of the rest of us will eventually get our vaccine as well. >> they can vaccinate 40 people and our with the rest of the admin staff doing the paperwork and checking all those right boxes. >> they had plenty of volunteers to expand the operation and with a larger space she hopes to begin vaccinating about 600 healthcare workers per day. >> dive teams have pinpointed the location from a passenger plane which crashed into the job yesterday. it also pulled rackets in human remains out of the water. the video appears to show records on the seabed about 75 feet beneath the surface. it was carrying 62 people when it lost contact.

former officer recently interviewed right here. >> the former oakland police officer wrote the post in an interview with my coworker on wednesday night he said he marched with some supporters to the capital building. >> they are angry they are at the front of the capital. >> they blame the riots on nt for claiming that they set up camp supporters to clash with police. there is no evidence of that. but they reportedly showed support by liking the post. the oakland sun reports one officer even commented on the post. those are no longer available for public viewing. >> that individual is completely wrong. you should be fired automatically. >> it could be contributing to inciting violence. they said any officers who supported the riots wouldn't be fit to enforce the law.

>> that is hypocritical. it's unacceptable. >> the police chief says she will not tolerate hate speech and offensive content. they agree saying that those who support hate speech should be fined. in oakland. >> the oakland police department and say how many officers were involved. snyder declined request. he spent nine years on the force and left in 2015. a really close call in oakland after a helicopter inadvertently dropped a huge industrial air conditioning unit in the middle of the street in downtown. take a look at this. it fell about 40 feet near 14th when the cables lifting the cooling tower broke it happened around 10:15 a.m. the commotion sent some construction workers running for cover but thankfully nobody was hurt. people are being advised to use caution on any trips to the beach. a high surf warning will be in effect for most of the day.

this is expected from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. this could top 30 feet and could easily lead people into the sea from jetties and rocks. on the weather. >> all those waves are coming from the strong storms out the pacific that keep developing out there. some of them bring us pain. most of them are going a little bit too far north. but, we are seeing the very southern tail adds of the most recent one. you can see it right here. a very weekly organized band of rain. the future cast picks up on it. we will continue to see light showers across the sonoma county. very little of it will actually make it over towards the 101 over the where the majority of us live. but some of it could. we can see just enough of a sprinkle that maybe we get hundreds of an inch of rain.

and it's basically between now and about 11:00 noon. it is only in the north bay is going to be another one like that on tuesday. first, here is the rest of our sunday morning. look at those mid-level clouds. david different than yesterday. gives you a little bit of insulation. and as a result we haven't developed the same kind of patchy fog that we had yesterday. whether we're looking over the bay bridge where the tri- valley. it is 35 out there in livermore. is a cold start to the day. but, look at santa rosa, 41, that's relatively warm. that's thanks to the clouds coming in with the system. you may get light rain but you also get a nice little blanket overhead. as far as the morning lows, that's what we've been doing. this comes up to right around 60.

this is bay area wide. and as devon just mentioned, the other item of concern is the high surf warning that goes until 9:00 p.m. tonight. we could see those breaking waves. which are pretty significant. they are pretty intense. make sure that you are staying aware of your surroundings if you're anywhere near the beach or on the sand. it's best to avoid it. let's take a look at that next chance of rain. i play that forward into tuesday afternoon. most of the rain is staying to find. but once again, we have a chance to notice a few light showers this time it will come on tuesday. likely the afternoon. it just grazes the north bay. i can do the same thing on this actual measurable rainfall. it's only a couple hundredths of an inch of rain. and it's north of the golden gate. that's going to be our last

chance for this. when we get past tuesday we start looking at the long-range forecast. look at the title appear. in other words, seven-day forecast this picks up and goes out for the next seven. the map shows you the degree of competence precipitation is either above or below average. when you get into this kind of bull's-eye shows you a relatively high degree of confidence that is going to be staying below average for the period. it's not only the rain. it is also a warm-up. daytime highs are climbing into the lower 70s. that will be noticeable. in fact, some of those temperatures we could be getting close to records. so, not only the lack of rain but the warm-up on the way. >> i know anything beyond a seven-day forecast is a little bit shaky. no rain this week or next week. >> right.

if we look at those forecast models, there is reasonable confidence to go all the way out to about january 19th. without any rain. it doesn't have to go that way. but we are close enough that we can see it in these high- resolution models and we should start preparing ourselves for that notion that january may not be very rainy. stomach nasa is planning several upcoming missions to unlock some of the secrets of the universe. they are putting together a new program called pioneers. it will undergo for small-scale missions to take a deep dive into what makes our universe tick looking at how the galaxy evolved and mergers. they say that the spending will be capped at $20 million. san francisco fire crews not only distinguish this but save the lives of the families. when the fire broke out, the family safely evacuated but

welcome back. thank you for joining us. let's start with a check of our weather. >> we had some rain to talk about. it is centered pretty much exclusively on the northbay. and most of it has fallen over the water. but since we do have that weekly to find a line let's track it. you can see some of these continuing to track. a little bit of light rain. you could see this rain over towards the 101.

i will show you the rest of that coming up in the complete forecast. none of these are big deals. these are the last two chances of rain for what could be a while. so, the northbay drizzle. partly cloudy. then the real headline is going to be the warm-up by the end of the seven-day daytime highs will be in the lower 70s many inland spots. just to get you ready to step outside. that has kept them just warm enough that we are not seeing as much patchy fog having developed. it is 50 in the city right now. see what the rest of the forecast is doing in a few minutes. >> just 10 days left until the inauguration. but they are inching closer to the trump administration. some are asking what is the point. in the short-term, it ends at

the president being convicted. he would be removed from office. but in the long term he could be disqualified from holding the federal office. however, there isn't much time to force them out. since it's unclear if they will take it up. it's also unclear whether those proceedings can be continued after the president leaves office. >> sadly the person running the executive branch is a deranged unhinged dangerous president of the united states. only a number of days until we can be protected from him. but he's done something so serious that there should be prosecution against him. >> i do have to say that the president's behavior does disqualify him from serving. but we have 10 days left. >> i don't think that anyone can say you know that this is

the thing that's going to help and bring our country together. >> multiple sources say that the president will not resign. mike pence has not ruled out using the 25th amendment. the report says that the vice presidents team is concerned that removing the president could prompt him to endanger the nation. while tensions at the white house continue, he appears to be moving forward with a transfer of power that he is expected to attend joe biden's inauguration. today on 60 minutes, nancy pelosi will describe the chaos inside of the capital. >> i was pulled from the podium. they were saying, where is the speaker. we know that she's here. >> you can see her full interview today on 60 minutes. >> this is a push as early as tomorrow for silencing the president ability to reach his supporters.

stomach from electric vehicles to tvs that rollout. this year's virtual consumer electronic show could be a bit different. michelle spoke with cnn's ian sure and asked him for those trends. >> probably my favorite trend is that you can roll them up. it is mind-boggling. the idea is that there are these tvs that you can buy today. they are very expensive. what they do is they roll up like a poster. they actually have their own case that they roll into. those types of things are just super cool. i'm really curious to see where tvs are going. one thing we are going to see is actually see-through tvs. there's a lot of work now living in this world where we have all of these things that we are used to seeing new cars have displays built into them

to give you an arrow telling you where to go on the windshield. now we are going to start seeing them pushing the idea of putting a see-through monitor essentially onto a bus for example. and instead of having a normal window whenever we get back on those, you would see instead, the outside world and that also information about where you are on your journey. it is super cool. >> it sounds so futuristic. is there anything you are expecting to see in the auto industry? >> the auto industry has increasngly been very interested in tact. part of it is that over the years, the infotainment thing that screen that used to be in the middle between the driver and the passenger used to be very boring now they are fascinating. we are going to see a lot more

advancements in the systems. a lot more involvement with our phones. one thing that i've seen in the auto industry is getting into this so there's a lot of cars out there that have wireless charges built into them see don't even have to worry about getting up. and a cord that might break. apple and google are offering places to work with your car as well. we are going to see a lot more of those as well. in addition to whatever else they're going to show. >> i want to see a tv that can roll up like a poster. they start tomorrow with a full day of product release. you can watch the event on that website. >> i just can't wait to see what comes next after role of televisions. okay, taking a look at this over the last 30 minutes we can see a break in these clouds.

watch this beautiful time- lapse. but i want you to see that opening right there. this shows you that even though there is a weak little rainmaker, there are plenty of breaks in clear sky overhead. keep this in mind, when you see the light rain there. this will actually not reach the ground. but since it is there, let's play the forward maybe a few light showers heading together on the coastlines. maybe even a drop or two gets inland so along the 101 we see some light rain that is the view which is perfectly clear. and it's cold as a result. it is 35. remember the difference? from the city working over towards the bay bridge. it is 50 degrees. it's 35 in livermore.

these clouds will be the deciding factor. daytime highs. no differences depending on where you are. we are all going to the same place. and if it's going to be a nice 60 degree day, because that's really all that is going to be. then, that's history even if we get it. the rest of the day is really nice. be mindful if you're going anywhere near the coast. this is everywhere and read. some of them as much as 30 feet high. these are huge for our coast. it will be a dangerous thing. even on the sand. but, let's take a look at our next chance of rain. playing this forward. another system comes into fine art to bring us any significant help for rain. but it's close enough going from mendocino and the northwestern edge of sonoma

county. we could get some light rain on that. looking at these rainfall totals. not a lot there. maybe a couple hundreds of an inch of rain. then, that looks like our last chance for what could be a while. they put out their long-range forecasts. this is where the seven-day forecast and pick this is a probability map meaning the deeper the shade of color on here. the higher the degree of contents participation will be above that level. then, you get to the deep shades of brown, the higher the degree of confidence will be sitting below average. another way of saying is when we look at those models, that take us well into the month, around january 20th, there's not much reason to believe we are going to be getting rain. as we look at the warm-up
