good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with a historic vote today by the u.s. house of representatives to impeach president trump on the charge of inciting the deadly capitol riots. it would make mr. trump the first president to be impeached twice. overnight the house passed a alng on vi presidenmike pence to in o but s rejected thapossibility.e. what's the president saying about this impeachment vote? >> reporter: the president lashed out about the impeachment calling it a continuation of the greatest witch-hunt in politics and called it a danger to our country. with vice president mike pence rejecting a resolution calling on him to invoke the 25th amendment -- >> the resolution is adopted -- >> reporter: today the house of representatives will vote to impeach president trump for the second time.

>> reporter: new jersey congresswoman mikie sherrill claims some of her colleagues gave tours to the rioters the day before. >> reconnaissance for the next day. those members of congress, i'm going to see that they're held accountable. >> reporter: at least three lawmakers have tested positive for covid-19 after sheltering in close quarters. they're blaming republicans who were not wearing masks and refused to do so while they wer. in fact, there's now a house resolution that's been passed fining members who don't wear a mask on the house floor. the first time, $500. the second time, $2,500. anne-marie? >> coming right out of their paycheck. thank you. the fbi says it had warned law enforcement agencies about the possibility of violence ahead of the attack on the capitol. that contradicts earlier statements that authorities were blind sided by the riots spearheaded by supporters of president trump. meantime, prosecutors are weighing sedition charges against some of the people who stormed the capitol last week.

starting today, the secret service will take command of security preparations at the thsecret service will be ideaug backed by as many as 15,000 national guard troops and thousands of police and tactical officers. security officials are reportedly worried about several threats including an alleged plot by armed groups to surround the white house, the capitol, and the inauguration event. as we mentioned, a number of house democrats have tested positive for the coronavirus following the capitol attack. and that number is growing. congressman brad schneider of illinois became the third lawmaker to catch the virus. the other two are representatives bonnie watson coleman and pramila jayapal. all three were in secured spaces during last week's riot. and some house republicans in the room were not wearing masks. meantime the number of daily covid deaths topped 4,300

reinstated restrictions on the abortion pill, and there are potential charges against the ex-governor of michigan. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." the "detroit free press" reports former michigan governor rick snyder and other former officials are expected to face charges in the flint water scandal. snyder was governor in 2014 when flint switched its water source to the flint river to save money. the water was not treated properly. that allowed massive amounts of lead to be pumped into homes in the predominantly black city. the lead was also blamed for a deadly outbreak of leginnaires' disease. snyder has been accused of mishandling the crisis and covering up the dangers. "the minneapolis star-tribune" says fired police officer derek chauvin will be tried separately in the death of george floyd. a state judge ordered chauvin to stand trial in march on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. three other fired officers charged in connection with floyd's death will be tried together in august.

chauvin pressed his knee against floyd's next for several minutes in may while floyd was handcuffed facedown on the street. a community organizer in minneapolis says that the fight for justice will continue. >> we ne t t minneapolis police department accountable to the fullest. that goes beyond the four officers. that goes to all the cops who have killed people in the past, who will potentially kill people down the road, and to keep -- keep the work going and keep the boots on the ground. >> the judge said it would be impossible to try all four defendants together due to coronavirus restrictions. the "washington post" reports the supreme court sided with the trump administration in an abortion case. the high court reinstated a long-standing fda rule that women must visit a doctor's office, hospital, or clinic in person to obtain an abortion pill. a lower court had ruled that it was okay for women to receive the pill by mail or delivery due t the abortion pill does not need to be taken in a medical
