to be impeached twice. the house voted 232 to 197 to impeach him yesterday. ten republicans joined democrats voting yes. they said the president needs to be held accountable for inciting a deadly riot at the capitol. this comes as mr. trump released a statement and a video. debra alfarone is in washington. what is mr. trump telling his supporters? >> reporter: well, in that five-minute video the president is condemning the violence from last week and telling his supporters to stand down. now that's a far different message than the one that he released in the wake of the riots last week where he told his supporters "we love you, and you're the house of representat impeached president trump on wednesday for inciting an insurrection at the u.s. capitol. >> the terrorists who stormed this building planned to hang the vice president, kill the speaker, and topple our government. >> reporter: mr. trump becomes the only president to be impeached twice.

>> well, we said if we didn't remove him he would do it again. >> reporter: while national guard troops camped out in the capitol, 222 democrats were joined by ten republicans in voting yes it the most bipartisan impeachment vote in u.s. history. >> i am not choosing a side. i'm choosing truth. it's the only way to defeat fear. >> reporter: most of the gop argued for unity in the president's defense, even if some admitted he bears responsibility. >> a vote to impeach will further fan the flames of partisan division. >> reporter: but democrats want mr. trump held accountable. >> people died because of the big lies that were being rter:ereeksfdction - eporte culnang in st >> if lik helve country anymore. >> reporter: while the trial isn't expected to start until after president trump leaves office, a conviction by two-thirds majority of the senate would likely bar him from running for president again. >> my fellow americans -- >> reporter: president trump did

not mention the impeachment in a video released by the white house, but he did tell his supporters there should be no more violence. >> no true supporter of mine could ever endorse political violence. >> reporter: in a statement, president-elect joe biden says he hopes the senate can balance the trial with working on the nation's business. and democrats are going to need 17 republican senators to break ranks with president trump in order to convict. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says he's not sure how he's going to vote at this point, and that is a far different stance than he took about a year ago when we were standing here talking about this very same subject. anne-marie? >> very much so, debra. debra alfarone in washington. thank you. so there's an apparent change of plans for president-elect joe biden on inauguration day. mr. biden will reportedly no longer take an amtrak train from delaware to washington to be sworn in. the decision reflects growing fears over potential threats in

the capital. kris van cleave spoke to former homeland security adviser fran townsend. >> reporter: how real do we think the concern is? >> it is real but oftentimes law enforcement is put in the position of regardless if it's unverified, in the wake of events last week, they've got to take these threats seriously. >> cbs news has learned up to 20,000 national guard troops could be deployedd to protect washington a week ahead of the inauguration. that is four times as m many troops currently in iraqore fli more flights into d.c. there are more calls to investigate tours of the u.s. capitol that took place one day before protesters stormed the building. more than 30 democrats signed a letter saying an extremely high number of outside groups were allowed in the building on january 5th despite restrictions because of the pandemic. lawmakers described their behavior as suspicious, and they believe some of the visitors

appeared to be associated with the riots the very next day based on their apparent knowledge of the capitol layout. we could soon learn more about the origins of the coronavirus outbreak. overnight, scientists with the world health organization arrived in wuhan, china, where the virus first surfaced in late 2019. they'll spend one month in the city investigating how the virus spread. here in the u.s., more than 951,000 vaccine doses were administered yesterday, the most in a single day since the rollout started last month. as chris martinez reports, there are positive signs in one of the hardest hit states. >> reporter: people lined up outside the new coronavirus vaccination supersite at a disneyland parking lot in anaheim, california. >> i decided to get here early so i wouldn't have to be -- i expected lines and lines of people. >> reporter: those who didn't have appointments were turned away. >> we can't have them line up and come down if they do not currently have a tier 1a and a

reservation. >> reporter: in california, just a quarter of the vaccine doses received so far have been administered. >> it's going to take a little bit of time to catch upment a lot of logistics that come into play. >> reporter: there are signs california's coronavirus surge is starting to level off. state health officials say the number of daily new lie hospitalized covid-19 patients has dropped over the past two days. although the crisis remains far from over. in arizona, which leads the nation in per capita covid cases and hospitalizations, officials set up a 24/7 vaccination site at state farm stadium. it comes as the trump administration announced it is releasing all of the vaccine supply instead of holding back second doses. >> i'm thrilled that we're able to get it today. >> reporter: roberta and irving ruse were some of the first to get vaccine napted in west chester shefter, new york, the epicenter of the pandemic, in march. >> this was the most important thing we can do today. >> reporter: new york officials say it could take up to 14 weeks

a projected $640 million for saturday night's drawing. the mega millions drawing is even bigger. that jackpot will be projected to be $750 million on friday night. the houston rockets trade james hardin, and a former presidential candidate is entering a merrittal case. andrew yang will officially launch his campaign to be new york city's next mayor. the entrepreneur released a campaign video outlining some of his plans for the city. one of his proposals i n bak income. it would give half a million people living in poverty up to $5,000 a year. some two dozen democrats are competing in the june primary to replace current mayor bill de blasio. the los angeles station kcbs says a new coronavirus super vaccine site opened at disneyland. about 3,000 people were vaccinated in the parking lot

yesterday. it's the first large-scale vaccination site in the area. some people had to be turned away because they did not make appointments ahead of time. those who did said things worked well. >> i was able to make an appointment last night for today. so i think that's off to a great start. >> i can tell you i was super impressed with how fast they got it on line, the app, the process. i mean, there's a few little glitches. >> officials say they hope to vaccinate more than 6,000 people a day at the site next week if enough doses are available. and the "houston chronicle" reports disgruntled rockets superstar james hardin was traded to the brooklyn nets. the four-team blockbuster trade nevils the indiana pavcers and cavaliers. he wanted to be traded from the rockets. he reportedly said the team was not good fluff to win. hardin led the nba in scoring the last three seasons and joins

now, airbnb is canceling reservations in d.c. during inauguration week, and dollar general is offering workers an incentive to get the vaccine. diane king hall is in new york with those stories and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning. this morning investors are awaiting the labor department's new weekly report on jobless claims. and futures are pointing to a mixed open after the house impeached president trump. now yesterday the dow slipped eight points, the nasdaq climbed 56, and the s&p 500 added 8. airbnb is canceling all reservations in the washington, d.c., metro area during the week of the presidential inauguration including hotel tonight reservations. the online rental company said it made the decision after discussions with local leaders and law enforcement officials. they're concerned about potentially violent demonstrations. if you've already made reservations, you'll be fully refunded. any new attempted reservake dollar general is encouraging employees to get the covid-19 vaccine by offering

extra cash. the retail chain said it will provide its employees with four hours of regular pay after they receive a completed coronavirus shot. salaried employees will get paid additional hours. dollar general with 157,000 employees is among the first large u.s. employers to offer an incentive for staff to be vaccinated. and next thanksgiving is already in target's bull's-eye. the minneapolis-based retailer announced its stores will close on turkey day in 2021. target shut its doors this past thanksgiving due to the coronavirus pandemic. target says it got such great feedback on the move, it wants to close this thanksgiving again to better meet the needs of employees and shoppers. anne-marie? >> well, you know, more and more people are shopping on line. and the sort of rush to get the deal in real life is not really that necessary. plus, it probably cost a lot to pay all those employees their holiday pay to work on thanksgiving. >> right. right. >> and everyone gets to stay home.
