protect against possible violence leading up to the presidential inauguration. barbed wire is up around the u.s. capitol ahead of next week's ceremony. fbi officials are concerned about 21,000 natnal guard g eeotu. capit.g deplo that number could grow. washington's business district is already locked down, and the secret service may close the national mall, as well. debra alfarone is in washington. there is a high level of concern here. >> reporter: absolutely, anne-marie. the united states government is essentially actively preparing to be attacked by its own citizens. and this has lawmakers on such a heightened state of alert that some of them are changing their schedules, and some are even wearing bulletproof vests. these national guard members left peoria, illinois, on thursday headed for the nation's capital. >> it's definitely a lot different than what my friends

are doing. >> reporter: bridget wood is a freshman at illinois skate university. >> you get excited but nervous because you never know exactly what to expect. >> reporter: following the deadly attack on the u.s. capitol, the fbi is warning of more potential violence in the coming days. >> we are seeing an extensive amount of concerning online chatter. >> reporter: as a precaution, president-elect joe biden, known to travel on amtrak between delaware and washington for decades as a senator, has scrapped plans to take the train >> rorte about 21,000 troops will be stationed in d.c. for wednesday's event. vice president mike pence thanked those already in place. >> we're going to swear in a new president and new vice president, we're going to move our nation forward. >> reporter: inside the capitol, lawmakers must work out the details of president trump's trial following his impeachment by the house. the senate says it won't start on inauguration day. >> that's joe biden's day. >> reporter: at least 17

republicans would have to join all 50 democrats for a conviction. >> i believe this president violated his oath of office, and i believe there must be consequences to that. >> i don't think that it rises to an impeachable offense. >> reporter: more than 100 rioters have been arrested, and officials have identified twice as many suspects. some say the threats and that high alert for danger won't stop on inauguration day. it's not going to be the end, it's actually an accelerant. anne-marie? >> my goodness. debra alfarone in washington. thank you so much. well, authorities have arrested two more people in the capitol siege. peter francis stager was taken into custody on a federal warrant. the arkansas man was spotted in videos and photos striking a police officer repeatedly with a flag pole. a retired pennsylvania firefighter was also arrested yesterday, robert sanford is accused of throwing a fire

illusionist siegfried fishbacher. he and his partner thrilled vegas audiences for years with their magic acts involving rare white tigers and lions. he died wednesday from pancreatic cancer. roy horn, who was attacked by a tiger in 2003, died last year of complications from the coronavirus. siegfried fishbacher was 81. and the "orlando sentinel" says an 11-year-old boy was saved from alleged abuse by a quick-thinking restaurant manager. police say she was working at an orlando restaurant new year's day when she noticed a man and woman and two children sit at a table. the boy had bruises on his face and arms and was not allowed to order any food. >> the first thing that i ons f was denied food at the restaurant.
